There is soooo much beauty along the Central Coast of California. Glad you had an opportunity to see what some of us Northern California folk may take for granted. You are right about Morro Bay, as I was fortunate to attend college at Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo, and routinely enjoyed the beaches of Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, and Avila Beach. Pismo Beach seems to be the "start" of your Southern California beach terrain, with the wide swaths of beach, flat, and not as many rock formations in the ocean, whereas just north of Pismo, starting at Avila Beach, is where you get in to the typical "rocky" terrain of Northern California beaches.

Only flew to the uk back from san Diego last Friday, we did your journey but in reverse... absolutely loved it, especially carmel, but we couldn't do big sur due to landslides.... gutted! route 1 is now partially closed so you cant do this now. you have to take route 101 and backtrack which sucks because I was going to do this in May but I don't think the road will be open so I'll have to do the backtracking
