It's such a shame that through all my road trips from LA to SF we never drove the scenic route because it took longer. Instead we always drove through boring farm lands sniffing cow manure galore 😢

Many moons ago when I was in San Jose for my job, I took a day off and drove the scenic, iconic 17-Mile Drive near Monteray. It was incredible! Beautiful views of the coast, the Lone Cypress tree hanging on a cliff, Bird Rock (should have been named Sea Lion Rock as the Sea Lions took over....haha), and the Del Monte forest full of Cypress trees. To take full advantage of being in that area, I drove from Monteray ALL the way across the state to Yosemite National Park (a 3 1/2 hour drive) because I just wanted to see the famous Half Dome from the Ansel Adams photos. Amazing!!!! I spent an hour driving around Yosemite, then drove back to San Jose. 🙂 I wish I had known about Big Sur back then. I would have tried to squeeze that into that one day as well. LOL!! If you ever get a chance to get back to central CA, visit the Monteray area and the 17-Mile Drive. 🙂
