But I recline comfortably in my seat with my knee touching the wheel while I read my emails or scroll on FB. I even take the occasional nap while in traffic. I believe Tesla is far ahead of other companies in the fields of artificial intelligence and autonomous driving. As a blind individual, I had the opportunity to experience Full Self-Driving (FSD) for the first time while riding with a sighted driver. Sitting in the driver's seat, I was able to observe how the system operated in real-time. The ride felt natural, smooth, and not at all jerky or unnatural. I was completely at ease as the car drove me around Beaumont, Texas, while the sighted driver sat in the passenger seat, ensuring that the vehicle behaved as expected. I had no fear during the trip and was genuinely looking forward to the experience. After this ride, I am fully confident that I will feel comfortable traveling in a fully autonomous vehicle without the need for a sighted assistant in the near future. Regarding Tesla’s artificial intelligence, I firmly believe that Elon Musk and his team have perfected their approach. I am also convinced that Tesla is likely to be the first company to bring a fully autonomous vehicle to market within the next year or so, ahead of any other competitor. During my ride using version 13 of the FSD package, the experience was incredibly smooth. The only issue I encountered was a single instance where the car attempted an illegal U-turn. However, what made this moment particularly amusing was that a police car happened to be right behind us at the time. The officer simply drove past us, unaware that a blind person was sitting behind the wheel of a self-driving Tesla. I jokingly told my sighted companion that if the officer had known, it would have made for an even more interesting moment! This experience further reinforced my confidence in the reliability and sophistication of Tesla’s self-driving technology. I am incredibly excited about the advancements in this field and eagerly look forward to my next opportunity to experience Full Self-Driving in action.

6:55 This is one of the biggest differences between FSD and the attempts from other companies! All the others seem to depend on special HD mapping that is specific to a given city, and they’ve literally been stuck in just a few cities for years now, with little progress to show for it Meanwhile, FSD already works everywhere by default. Starting in a single city with their unsupervised FSD is solely a validation strategy before they release it everywhere, rather than an inherent limitation of the system

_ Now at a minimum I will get upgraded to hw4_ Technically, AFAIK no one from Tesla has said you'll get upgraded to HW4, let along HW5; only that you'll be upgraded to an ECU that will run FSD (Unsupervised). This will almost certainly *not* be HW4 as such, because it's not physically compatible with HW3; but it may be a custom ECU that will have the performance of HW4 or even HW5, but fit physically where the HW3 ECU is now.

How to effectively use AI to achieve real world results that can be monetized is where Tesla leads. AI is not just asking fun questions or help in writing a paper or creating an image. How to make a better car battery that can charge in less time, lasts longer, delivers more power and costs less would be an example. What materials can withstand the heat of re-entry that are lightweight, low cost, and durable?

I always find it funny to hear such comments and announcements, especially the part about unsupervised FSD in Europe next year. We Europeans have paid the same amount of money for FSD as the Americans do (even more, given that we pay the same number-amount in Euro that you pay in USD), and 2+ years after the US has seen Beta versions of FSD (supervised) we still haven't even seen those... I hope that Elon gets his act together soon and starts delivering something useful for the European market too.

Throw your frustration towards the EU and not Elon. It will come to the EU, but because of regulations it takes a lot longer. Do not see the overall benefits of regulations here
@TheNewAccount2008

@@BMikkel88 Well, first of all, there are countries within the EU that do allow such products already. And I assume it would be easy to geofence those countries in. Second, even if you can't provide all the FSD functionality by now, AutoSteer is no different to FSD Supervised, so if one is allowed, the other one should be too. And third, and most importantly, even if some features are not available (which we are used to already...) Elon could at least get us the general software to improve the features we currently have. (And which suck in many areas...) It's easy to blame the EU... But in the end that's not always where the truth lies.

How many of the FSD supporters would feel comfortable closing their eyes for five minutes while using FSD while driving through a city?
@BigBen621
@BigBen621 3 күн бұрын
I would, without hesitation. What you and your ilk don't understand is that there are in effect two different versions of FSD, depending on what part of the country you're in. In most of the flyover states, there are not enough Teslas sending videos back to the mothership to fully train the NN, and as result FSD performance suffers and it requires frequent interventions and disengagements. But in areas like SoCal, the SF Bay Area, and presumably Austin, TX, the NN is fully trained, and disengagements are extremely rare. Whole Mars Catalog probably epitomizes the latter situation best, with frequent, sometimes lengthy videos showing trips both in and between the SF Bay and Los Angeles Areas, with extremely rare disengagements. FSD has been driving me around San Diego for several weeks on V12.5.6.x and now V13.2.1 in a 2024 HW4 Model Y, completely hands-free, with only 2-3 disengagements-all of which were initiated by me to choose a different route to my destination than what FSD had chosen. It's like being driven around by a professional chauffeur, with my hands on my legs or the armrests. It even does limousine stops at every stop, a skill I've tried unsuccessfully to master. It is so good that I would have no problem closing my eyes and letting it drive me to my chosen destination, whether it took 5 or 50 minutes.
@thomasanderson7562
@thomasanderson7562 3 күн бұрын
On my route to work, I would actually feel comfortable taking a nap if the system let me. I never have to intervene anymore until I get to the parking lot. 6 months ago I would have said we're years away from getting there but the latest version is actually pretty incredible.
@BobbieGWhiz
@BobbieGWhiz 3 күн бұрын
@BigBen621 My ilk are wondering what happens when something unexpectedly arises in your area if some old 2x4’s with nails in them fall off a truck, or other low barrier blocks a road, or you’re at a construction site where a police officer, who isn’t making eye contact, is making tiny gestures with one or two fingers telling you to proceed or stop, or if you happen to be in the wrong designated lane when you need to turn or go straight, etc.? Thanks from the ilk.
@BigBen621
@BigBen621 3 күн бұрын
@@BobbieGWhiz _My ilk are wondering what happens when something unexpectedly arises_ FSD would do the same thing it would do if something unexpectedly arises and I failed to intervene for some other reason-it would figure out what action it should take to minimize the chance of an accident. It is certainly possible to imagine situations that would support your presumed position that the driver must be ready to and should take over in these cases. But it is also possible to imagine just as many situations where the driver taking over is the wrong action, and could itself lead to an accident. FSD has been driving me around San Diego for several weeks on V12.5.6.x and now V13.2.1 in a 2024 HW4 Model Y, completely hands-free, with only 2-3 disengagements-all of which were initiated by me to choose a different route to the set destination than what FSD had chosen. It's like being driven around by a professional chauffeur, with my hands on my legs or the armrests. It even does limousine stops at every stop, a skill I've tried unsuccessfully to master. In my opinion, FSD V13 is to the point where intervening in an effort to avoid a dangerous situation is far more likely to exacerbate the situation than to improve it; and so whether my eyes are open or closed, I'm almost always going to sit back and allow FSD to decide how to correct the situation. Of course, this applies *only* in areas where the NN is fully trained, such as where I live; in other areas where FSD makes far more errors, it is of course appropriate for the driver to take back control if it looks like FSD is doing something dangerous.

Sure, it will be possible in selected parts of the world with decent weather. In Scandinavia, where I live, we are going to have to wait for a long time. Not because it's impossible, but because Tesla is not even working on the problem. There's no way the current camera set-up is going to work reliably without any means of keeping the cameras clean. The car can't even keep the front window free from rain, dirt and snow-slush. I like my Tesla, but it's not going to drive me around by itself all seasons where I live in the near future. And It's not software issue, this will require different hardware and current cars doesn't have it.

FSD will be allowed in Europe, soon is my idea. They are now talking only to allow on highways, etc. But that restriction will very soon be over and it will be true full self driving. In the US Austin, will be followed up by a few US cities almost immediate. Than the mass, will follow, not only cities, but states. Same in the rest of the world. China (Shanghai) will be perhaps sooner than Austin. Followed by Asia, limited to the countries Tesla's are sold. The way Tesla does camera only, 7 or 8 cams... is very beautiful with there onboard analizes and control. They used only data from the very best Beta-drivers to feed the AI. Their system is so smart with it's analizing that it never got programmed what a traffic light is, or what rules it follows. The FSB AI system learned to cope with traffic lights it self, by analizing the very best Tesla drivers. FSD sees the world almost human like, but much better and more (360 degrees) and with a 100% stamina. This combination with onboard computing is something a human driver, even the very best never can do. The whole world it sees is analyzed to an synthetic world where in the car finds it's route and anticipates in all situations. The FSD system of Tesla is marvelous. But much more is coming.... Trucks, more Tesla car models and energy will be BIG and revolutionary... I hope we all get good very long distance HVDC connections with lots of grid tide battery systems for industry's and at home a solar powered powerwall with bi-directional BEV connection. I think this is our future.

_There's like 1 airplane crash per million miles._ According to statistics released by NHTSA last spring, there had been 75 actual accidents experienced by Teslas with FSD engaged, at a time when these had driven 1.3 *billion* miles over several years. This is an accident every 17.3 million miles. Meanwhile, again by NHTSA's statistics, average drivers experience a reportable crash every 539,000 miles, >30 times as often as Teslas with FSD engaged.

You need to educate yourself on the differences.... Waymo’s Model: Offers high reliability and safety within its operational domain but is inherently limited by its dependence on detailed mapping and geo-fencing. Tesla’s Model: Potentially offers greater flexibility and scalability by not relying on pre-mapped environments, but it faces significant hurdles in ensuring consistent safety and performance under all conditions.

Tesla is far ahead of everyone else. But I think Elon is still overly optimistic about how fast general unsupervised FSD can be implemented (i.e. no steering wheel, no accellerator pedal and no brake pedal). I don't think FSD is ready for snow storms, drive thrus, handling emergency vehicles properly, or private gated communities. Once, I'm through the gate in a gated community, I love that FSD can take me through the community straight to my friend's house, but getting through the gate requires me to drive. Also, getting out of the gated community requires me to drive. Also, FSD V13 still makes huge mistakes in parking lots. These videos you are talking about are "cherry picking". FSD is almost ready as a driver assistance system, but I've seen it be hugely discurtious (total failure at driving defensively), so its just almost ready.

_I don't think FSD is ready for ..._ What you're missing is that the software for FSD (Unsupervised) will be substantially improved from V13, and all of the issues you bring up will necessarily have to be solved before release of FSD (Unsupervised). But since Tesla has stated when and where FSD (Unsupervised) will first be released, it is a near certainly that this code is already running, and they already have advance approval from appropriate authorities to release it.

@@rioriggs3568 _Tesla’s FSD (even version 13) is still at 200 city miles between critical disengagements_ It can be shown both empirically and statistically that "critical disengagements" would almost never have resulted in actual crashes, had they not occurred. Further, the small number of owners providing data to the FSD Tracker that this number comes from includes data from all parts of the country. This includes all the flyover states where there are not enough Teslas sending videos back to the mothership to keep the NN training queue full, and as a result FSD performance suffers in these areas. But the planned release of FSD (Unsupervised) will initially be done only in areas such as SoCal, the SF Bay Area, and presumably Austin, where the NN training queue is fully populated; and disengagements, let alone critical disengagements, are virtually nonexistent. You will of course reject these facts because "reasons"; but they will be amply demonstrated when the FSD (Unsupervised) releases start, this summer.

But terrible here on the east coast in cities that were laid out originally for dirt roads with horses and make little sense. I've had to intervene several times with last month's free FSD. It's not ready for full scale release in cities. It can do limited release with high definition mapped cities like Waymo does, where every street is known and all lanes are mapped. But not in areas like where I live. FSD also struggles with driveways and parking lots that aren't mapped. FSD (Unsupervised) *is* SAE Level 4. Level 5 requires that "the ADS can operate the vehicle on-road anywhere within its region of the world", which is defined by example as a minimum of the continental U.S. So this requires that every government entity in the continental U.S. approve Tesla for autonomous driving, which will take years if not decades.
