I knew last fall when you mentioned your leaf collection idea and started collecting the hose, orange mesh, etc. that this project was going to be great. That rig works excellent. Good for you Bill.

Bill, you could use this thing all year not only for collecting leafs, but also for mowing, and collect all the stuff onto a compost pile, and get some really good top soil out of it!

Bill, I have a travel trailer almost exactly like yours. I spent about $250 US and bought an electric tongue jack and its the best money I have spent on the rig so far. All the jack it down on to the ball, then jack it back up to install the load distribution then jack it back down got old real quick. Also, it looks like your well on your way with the leave picker upper dooey too.. Great job and great video's.. keep it up!!

billy i dunno if you'll see this but i built and tested alllllllmost the same leaf set up.... cover half the roof of you leaf rig. it'll save you the mouth of grub and act as the deflector. as for the tubby issue.... I'm using a sinch strap (ratchet strap) it works awesome. ps. if it weren't for you id be dumping my bags ever 10 minute!!!!! keep them videos coming

Hi Bill, I wish I had some of that leaf and grass mulch for my garden, you might want to pick up some lime for the leaf mulch though. Leaves are great for the garden but they are acid and the lime neutralizes them. Love your leave vac, I used one years ago for a apartment complex I was managing. On the vac hose, all you need to do is buy some heating ac metal connectors that fit the hose and put and short pin in one and a connecting grove in the other and it just takes a second to connect them. Also if you get a chance you can always make the trailer sides out of lighter tin or aluminum, with a metal lager hole screen, it would look very pro. Love your vids, Bruce. S. Oregon.

Sweet leaf collector Bill. And regarding your trailer sway most of the weight in a trailer is supposed to be ahead of the axle according to Uhaul. Beg my pard. Cheers
@born2flyau
@born2flyau 9 жыл бұрын
Bill, If you get a sway up in your trailer or caravan the WORST THING you can do is appy the brakes, it increases the sway. The BEST thing to do is accelerate out of the sway. I had it happen to me and it definitly works from personal experience. There was a steep hill near my house and i saw many vehicles appy the brakes in a sway and go completely out of control and flip the trailer and sometimes the tow vehicle as well.
@billstmaxx
@billstmaxx 9 жыл бұрын
+born2flyau that would suck for sure
@born2flyau
@born2flyau 9 жыл бұрын
The main cause was people would load these big tandem trailers full of steel girders or heavy lengths of timber, bags of cement or other building materials and not put anything in the back of their trucks to even out the weight. The heavy trailers would simply push the lighter truck down the hill and then they would brake and the whole lot would jack knife and end up with one big mess.

+born2flyau If the system in the F150 is anything like in my car I use to tow our Caravan (UK)/ Travel trailer as it detects sway the car will apply a controlled amount of braking on the opposite wheels to the direction of the sway. This should help bring things under control. The biggest cause though is incorrect loading. Keep heavy items low down and over the axle of the trailer and maintain the correct tongue weight. The worse thing you can do if you detect sway is to try and correct using the steering or brake. You need to slow down using engine braking and try to maintain straight ahead without mad tugs on the wheel. You'll never correct the sway with steering, you'll only make it worse. A lot of movement you will feel in the tow vehicle will be suspension movement, just maintain straight ahead with small corrections and gradually slow. Instability is related to speed, yes you could accelerate out of it, but you wouldn't have enough power to do this. If you can manually apply trailer brakes this would be more effective. In the UK most trailers upto 3.5 tonne use overrun brakes, and there are electronic systems that detect sway and apply braking automatically on the trailer to reduce its effect.

Nicely done Bill!, you need to come up with some sort of quick release for the hose. I was also thinking that some sort of window on one of the side panels or even the panel that the hose goes into to allow you to see how full it is without having to open the door to see. I may try making something out of aluminium for you as soon as i have some time..

BILL, Sounds like you need a delay on connecting the caravan to the trucks power system. It would allow the alternator to recover the truck battery after starting, then the caravan is connected 3mins later. A large relay to connect/disconnect the caravan, driven by a 3 minuite timer perhaps :-) I bet ebay has somethinng like it.

@tretter1452

Bill, maybe you could simply attach a fairly heavy weight to the end of the hose to keep it from being blown off instead of trying to attach the hose to the blower?

bill have to checked to see if the fuses were installed on your truck for the trailer charge ford dont install the fuse and relay from the factory. the user has to install it under the hood it relay goes in number 9 and the fuse goes in 21 its also listed in your owners manuel. we had to install the ones in ours took me a bit to figure out why the battery wasent chargeing lol

For the blower hose, put 2 studs on it sticking outward then cut two L-shaped notches in the hose so it'll be like a twist lock, have the hose twisted a bit so it forces it into the locked position. So basically like the twist-lock electrical plugs.

its a really good idea to put wood under the jacks at the corners so you don't tear into the ground or ruin them

Hey Bill on your battery you just need to unhook the ground no need to unhook both your positive and negative. Also if your going to use 2 batteries make sure you hook them up in parallel.
@The_JEB
@The_JEB 9 жыл бұрын
you could drill 2 holes (1 on top and bottom) in the hose as well as the blower thing, put some small carriage bolts with nuts and when you can put the hose on and try to pull it over the carriage bolts that way it might act as a bit of a "lock" so to speak for the hose, and then use a hose clamp on the one side of the bolts and tighten it down. I suck at explaining things i'd have to show you what I mean but I live in BC and ontario is a little bit of a drive away

Bill the way i was tought to use the equaliser bars was to only take enough weight off the truck so that it sets with just well take a measurement of the truck from tire to body and the hook up the trailer and only take like most of the weight off but not all of it you still need the truck and trailer to work almost like one if you take to much weight off the truck you can spin the tires on the truck and then the ride will be bad aswell you need them to flex between the truck and trailer but not alot its hard to try and spell it out then to say it

+Chum joe I see your passionate about this. It is regrettable if inadvertently insulted you by calling this engineering. How ever is stand by my affirmation of support and praise. What he accomplished in this build was indeed engineering. Brake down the process in which something is conceptualised, researched, inventoried, fabricated and crated. Review the skills, of math,physical science, and tactile experience in engineering. Where is BillsTmaxx lacking in this project? If you are a "True engineer" then you a familiar with the phrase "Nothing new under the sun." If your some internet goof. Try new batteries in your tickle me elmo and stick it sideways.

the inverter pulls only a couple amps at most but if the batteries are dead it can make the inverter overheat. consult with the Ford dealership and see if they have a higher amp alternator than stock. if not find out what amp output stock has. if it's 120 amps or higher it will be OK. I've had my alternator go out every time I pulled my camper at night and couldn't figure out why until I found out the alternator for the van was only a 80 amp alternator and it couldn't keep up with the load it was under at night. got a 120 amp alternator and the problem stopped. keep the camper plugged up when at home or leave the refrigerator doors open or you will find a mold problem in it one day. trust me
