I just discovered this band..quite by accident, by checking out their ad video here on KZbin....Normally, I do not listen to the music ad vids for more than a few seconds..I turn it off, fast.... if it doesn't really get my attention, if it doesn't turn me on , and, well, I gotta say, this one DOES TURN ME ON.........VERY COOL SOUND......As a musician , singer , song writer myself, for over the last 40 yrs, I can say, that these folks have something very special, and I hope they get really famous....There are so many influences I hear in this.....Right off, I think of Fleetwood Mac..( especially the drummer here..wow)..I also think of Neil Young.....I think of Grateful Dead...and more...I mean , this stuff REALLY turns me on, and is very inspiring to me....YOU GO FAR...."BIG THIEF".......You certainly stole MY attention.....Keep on doing more of your beautiful music...I am shariing this on my FB page.. THANKS ....

(Imma be the lyrics guy for this gem of a song) Red moon rising like a fire in me So many questions, she asks them all to me I have to answer most curiously Scarlet angel, I am too small to see Earn earn, shuffle round the big city Burning the rubber down, crossing the hot concrete I'm gonna leave town, there is someone to meet She turns her head around a full 360 Woo Bedroom rising from an old growth tree Bringing out the sawmill, cutting the 12 inch beams Building a pattern, the reservoir to fill with dreams Rings like Saturn telling their old story Windmills turn and turn eternally What do you yearn for, where do you long to be? I've been here before, looking at the wild country Open the screen door, talking with Diane Lee That's my grandma! Radio singing from the corner of the kitchen I got the oven on, I got the onions wishing They hadn't made me cry, filling the sink with dishes Letting them air dry, waiting for the wind's permission Too many movies got me shivering and shy Turning the lights out, glistening in the owl's eye Glimmer like lightning under the violet sky Shimmer like diamonds, watching the red moon rise Ooh!

seeing you all perform in houston this fall is the closest to holy i’ve ever felt. the way your instruments and vocals dance and resound is unparalleled. adrianne, your words are magic-i’m currently at university doing a semester long project on your poetry. I listened on vinyl on wednesday because I just couldn’t wait!!! my question is-in the deepest bits of your bones, what color do you all feel like right now?? secondly, which is each of your favorite songs on the album? (mine personally are promise is a pendulum or blue lightning, of the new ones, and simulation swarm of the previously released) all of these words really just sum to: I have love for each of you all through your work. I wish you ease, grace, and peace.

Went with one of my bestfriends and we just had such a great experience the whole time. Left the venue and got in traffic due to a highway shut down so we jumped a grassy median to get home. Hey! My question is for Adrienne :) I adore this album so so much, I can already tell it is going to be very important to me. A lot of the lyrics on the album feel like these beautiful montages of scenes and memories and imaginings of otherworldly things. I was wondering how you go about connecting these varying ideas into a central feeling or story? Or just like, writing advice in general lol You guys are my favourite band and Adrienne as a lyricist especially has had a huge influence on my writing :)

question for James: little things is one of my fav songs on the record because of how many different sounds are happening within the song while still managing to capture the essence of each instrument in the mix, what was the process like for mixing that song?
@scottlippittmusic2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! That's a great question. I love the texture of that song. Its an impressive mix.
@BigThief2 жыл бұрын
heya it's james. the mix was fairly simple. shawn mostly dialed in the sound for the main take that you hear on the record while he was tracking it. we recorded with the delay because adrianne was singing to that in the headphones. we edited some of bucks guitar part processed a few moments so they are bigger and added a atambourine and then adrianne sanga bunch of adlibs which i then comped and edited. but the sound was pretty much there, shawn crushed. there were some little tweaks but mostly it was all there. shawn is really good at mixing.
