had an f-150 for 9 years. low mileage, 74k miles before it gave up the ghost. it wouldn't start one day and after checking battery, had it towed to my local ford dealership. i used that dealership for 7 years for scheduled maintenance. it sat on the lot for 5 weeks and they were never going to work on it. this is in a town where trucks are very popular and i was fine for paying for repairs, but they couldn't even get a mechanic to look at it for diagnostics and an estimate. i eventually talked to the toyota dealer service manager and he said in passing, "we would never let a customer have a truck with us that long without doing the work." i had the truck towed to him and eventually used as a trade-in for a toyota. the f-150 was not heavily used -- i got it mostly to do some towing of a large mower and hauling. didn't do much of either. the f-150 had to be towed years before when the engine overheated. apparently a gasket seal was defective and the dealer charged me $110 to replace since it was not under warranty. i'm still flabbergasted that an f-150 with low mileage and not much wear couldn't get basic service. my brother had the same issue with his f-150 -- it was one with a nice trim package. a/c went TU and the dealer wanted to charge 2100 to remove the front console/dashboard to replace an issue that had been reported in the forums. i've always been a honda/toyota man and i will never, ever buy another american owned piece of shit ever again. toyota is already heading down the tubes as well. it's so sad that small bare bones pickup like we had in the 80s and 90s is just off the table and all we have are these stupid vehicles that normal hardworking people cannot afford. i make a good income and am blessed. totally shocked at what i had to pay to get my toyota. it feels like the system is trying to end car ownership altogether through incompetence, greed and malice. american car companies will get bailed out again for stupid shit like the lightening which i knew was going to be an epic fail

You are not the only person (American) to have gripes with the legacy auto manufacturer dealership system. Dealerships charging over the MSRP is normal business for dealers. The primary reason I bought a Tesla was because I did not have to deal with add-ons from a dealership!!! Yes, I like electric vehicles, but I hate,...I loath dealing with dealerships.

@@CasperChicago We all hate stelerships. My nephew sells cars and has good and bad days., But the owner of his dealership has so much money he belongs to two Private golf clubs in the city, just because! it's a sign of the times. I'm disgusted at the money some make and let others suffer as they work 55 hours a week! Here in Canada the working class is poor and has nothing left after food and shelter. Oh and that truck payment.

You are correct, the American sedan is dying quickly. One day, the only choice of a new vehicle will be overpriced SUV's and trucks. Majority of these huge trucks are only being used as people and grocery haulers. I bet you could get a good deal on one of those Mazda 3s. I like the CX-50s too.

We have a small horse ranch in Montana and need two full-size pickups. The F-150 is a great highway vehicle (23 mpg) and can carry light cargo, and the F-250 can handle any of our five different trailers. It is the real workhorse of the ranch. No use for a car.

I totally agree with you. The Mazda brand is really good quality built vehicles, and in particular the Mazda 3. And the Road manners and handling is way superior to any Pick Up Truck or SUV. But people just wants these "Tanks" to show off, or sit higher, which gives them the perception of being more secure, but the Crash tests tells another story. The sad story of these compact Sedans / Hatchbacks is that they are slowly but surely being phased out due to poor sales.

Mum has a 2018 Mazda 2, only a 1.5 but 115hp and is fine for a compact. The Red is "Soul Red Crystal Metallic" and is a sought after colour here in the UK. Mum's 1.5 has no turbo and manual gearbox and even handbrake (parking brake) so simple for a modern car. Even the battery still has opening filler caps to top up with distilled water.

I think you're misunderstanding the calls for sub 20k to 25k cars and from whom. Men are asking for them as cheap practical reliable transportation to and from work and will buy them but oem's and dealers don't want to build them and dealers won't stock them because they don't make enough profit per sale. Ex: where I live the kia dealers aren't stocking the base lx optioned kia k4. Can't buy them if nobody will stock them. Same with manual transmissions. Oem's say people don't buy sticks but kind of hard to buy a stick when the oem won't make a stick. Think about it. When you buy a manual transmission car the oem doesn't charge for the transmission on the window sticker. It considered part of the build. Buy a car with an automatic transmission, even if a stick is not available as an option on that model, they still charge you for the transmission. And women say they want a sub 20k to 25k vehicle but they want the 6000 pound chevy suburban to be sub 25k because no self respecting princess would be caught dead in a kia rio. Women think they deserve the "luxury" on a dunkin donuts paycheck. What oems have done is instead of building a life-long custoner through multiple sales over the life of the customer, they have decided to make one sale in the life of the customer and get the profit from multiple sales into one sale.

Trucks - Jeeps hold their value. They don't depreciate as fast - anything with a standard type of frame. A thought to consider. That truck is a white work truck for a working man. 8-foot bed will haul a ton of tools or cargo. Everyone needs a smaller grocery getter for running around town.

I disagree. I see lots of people where I live buying those used imported Keitora vehicles from Japan for only 4 to 7k instead of overpriced American market cars. About the taxes….Yeah, the 4,000 pages long tax code is mostly to benefit upper incomes but there’s a little benefits in there for all individually owned businesses. A little scraps that some special interests threw us. They will never close loopholes because it’s useful to people who donate to lawmaker campaigns. (Like carried interest for hedge fund managers).
