one way you can keep memories attached to the book and not keep the book is using a reading journal, and not only take notes about the book itself, but also of the reading process! great video, love your content!

book recommandation to spinning silver/uprooted: The Winternight trilogy (The Bear and the nightingale) by Katherine Arden! Russian folklore/history, soft magic, ATMOSPHERIC, perfect for winter, mc that you will root for etc. The 1st book is slow but the rhythm pick ups for the 2nd and 3rd. I only started buying classics recently because 1. I want to collect those and 2. I know I'm going to read those. Everytime I see a hella pretty cover on the bookshelf of my local bookstore, I have to kill myself because I have to return it back to its original place and leave it be, knowing someone else will probably buy it. I have, currently, maybe 7-9 books I've bought that I haven't finished reading. I have like 2 books I got as presents and one I want to read, it's by Borges, but it's short stories and I'm not the biggest fan of those, and the other is a romance story by Nora Roberts I believe? Which I had no idea was so famous cause I see her books EVERYWHERE!!! but yeah, I'm struggling hahahahah

@@sillywhimsyy I feel like you took my comment the wrong way. I agree that 'obsessed' is too strong a word- what im trying to say is that i dont think collecting books as a hobby is inherently wrong. Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves kzbin.infoUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.

Have you looked into Matt Larkin's "Cycle of Eschaton" series? There's multiple. "Gods of the Ragnarok Era" tells a grittier, human-based retelling of the apocalypse myths of the Norse, then "Tapestry of Fate" is a prequel series based on Greek mythology, and "Queens of Mana" a sequel series based on Polynesian mythology. I think you'd like it.

One way to "detach" from storing the physical item but still recall the memory is to take a picture (much smaller and can be stored digitally). You could start a Word document on your computer including the pictures there along with a paragraph about the memory.

Nice video. I'm always interested in seeing people struggling over what books to keep and what to get rid of. It made me want to reorganise my books but I've got 1652 books in this room (I put them all on a spreadsheet so I know that's the definitive number) so if I start it'll be a whole day and half way through there will be a pile of books on the floor/bed/chair and I'll be wondering what the hell I started! Marie Kondo says to take a photo of something you hold dear so you can have the memory after letting the object go. For me, I ask if the book is a favorite and keep those treasures. If I disliked a book, I let it go, preferably in a Little Free Library or Half Price Books. If I haven't finished the series, I will keep the ones I have read. I like to re-read or skim when a new book in a series comes out. I let gift books go to good new homes. I destash nonfiction that is too dated. The most important question for me is whether I think I will re-read a book. I am a habitual re-reader, and I mood read when I want to be in a certain frame of mind. I have a lot of comfort reads. When I have a favorite author I will buy all their books, and only if I really dislike a book will I destash. I keep my TBRs the longest and I have a lot of unread books because of that. It's hard for me to let go of unread books.

One of my favourite books is Uprooted and I’ve been in search of atmospheric fairy tale-esque/folklore centred stories since.
