I was at this game with my father ill always remember the cheer of the crowd after strike out number 20. and watching them drape the K's over the side because the electronic counter didn't go high enough.

Have to agree. Had he played as long as Nolan Ryan, he would have the strikeout record. Clemens did PEDs so he is automatically not in the discussion. All the late 1800s/early 1900s played in a completely different baseball game so you cant really compare numbers there. Greg Maddux is not quite as good but still a legend.

Pedro Martinez has a claim to that as well. Don't Forget Pedro's 1.70 ERA in an era where league average was 4.75 and the 2nd place finisher was 2 runs per game behind him (Clements with 3.70) Back in 1999. Had Pedro lasted as long as Johnson, he'd have nearly 5000 strikeouts too.

Another thing too is Johnson pitched against roided up batters as well I always say the two best pitchers in the game are Johnson and Ryan I would put Johnson slightly ahead of Ryan.

His fastball was legendary that night. I remember watching a game when i was a youngster... Randy Johnson vs Kenny Lofton... Randy threw a wild slider to Kenny, Kenny decides to charge the mound, looks at the who he is charging, runs back to the box and grabs his bat to use against Randy, but the teams got involved before anything progressed. Randy Johnson is in the top 10 pitchers of all time.
