That magazine article is referring to the Celica it will have 400hp i4. The next gen Supra will return to a Toyota designed twin turbo inline 6 essentially 2 x 1.6 liter 3 cylinder mounted together. The target hp is 600hp & there will also be a new MR2. But it has not been green lighted to be sold in NA market yet.

Dodges case is slightly different only because they used their existing hurricane I4 to make their new I6 to be used in volume cars like their rams,current wagoneers,and later chargers. Toyo has the V35TT so making a I6 makes no sense when that V6 practically fills all the roles the I6 would be used for.

When you have a hybrid you can’t just add the ice horsepower to the battery horsepower. So in this case it would be less than 500 horsepower but it’s not bad because that battery power goes to the low end torque which is great for daily driving

Because let's be honest: if Toyota made a new TT I-6, in order to recoup development costs, you'd HAVE to put it in multiple vehicles like they did when it was made. What Toyota currently made in the US would fit an inline 6 besides a truck? Lexus would most certainly get such an engine, but Toyota is the volume brand, you'd have to have it in something that sells in decent volume in order to make a business case for it.

I was a reserve race car driver back in the late 70's and so have driven manual transmissions most of my life. I can tell you from experience that the new automatic transmissions with manual override is a much better setup. It makes the car faster since the computer can shift faster than any human. If it was not true then why are all of the race cars using the new type of automatic transmissions. The only exception I can think of is NASCAR which I don't bother to watch. I currently drive a Nissan 370Z with the automatic transmission even though it is not dual clutch. It is simply better than the old manuals. I am excited that Toyota is trying to revive sports cars. I wish all of the manufacturers would follow their lead. Cars have gotten boring over the years.

Sometimes, it's just so mehhh, they start talking about GRMN supra in 2020, saying that car will be released with CS-output S58(550ps) with DCT in 23' and it's way overdue, but now the test car on Nur is more like a b58o1 supra based on gt4. Now forget that electric one, this "new supra" gonna have combine a p3 motor with transaxle(technically not p3 since after driveshaft) plus a battery on top, assuming there is even enough space. That GR Super Sports name was supposed to be the name of the road going version of Toyota's GR010 Hypercar class race car which races in WEC. It supposed to be Twin Turbo V6 Hybrid powered Hypercar producing around 950hp. We even got to see an actual prototype going around in Fuji and another one with its top chopped off in Le Mans back in 2021. Sadly the project seems to be cancelled after that.

This will Copy hybrid parts from Toyota Crown. My parents have it. Its electric motors drive the rear wheels. It’s alot of fun and definitely adds to the drivability. The torque makes it very seamless and responsive in normal driving. Plus, the battery acts more like a capacitor, it charges and drains several times an hour in normal driving, so I can understand why its not plug in.

This Supra's new Design is a man's car…love the design from the Dodge Viper/Corvette owner…..the front is handsome..this has Corvette C7 vibes and Italian influences all over yet it's got its own unique look…the rear light is spot-on on From A80, A70..supra.. excellent job.. If this is 100% gonna look like.… Make it 2+2 similar to what Porsche 911 does so the wife says “YES” with kids and the long-term Supra survival is 2+2…2 seats are not for the masses…why limit the sales… Porsches did it.

Though I'm excited to hear that Toyota may continue with a MK6 Supra, the thoughts of a turboed four cylinder with electrification may be a misstep, especially if a similar powertrain setup is rumored to be used in the upcoming Celica/MR2 duo. I enjoyed my MK4 Supra back in the days and I love the MK5 Supra that Gazoo Racing codeveloped with BMW as both models follow the turbo i6 RWD formula. What I'm really hoping from Toyota is either the 3 cylinder that's used in the GR Yaris and Corolla being built as the groundwork for an inline 6 variant for the next gen Supra or using a beefed up version of the upcoming inline six that Toyota is codeveloping with Mazda (IIRC).

in this day and age.... well put it this way,, a Lexus RX500h has a 2.4T hybrid with 370hp. its gearchange could be better, is mostly a FWD despite being E-AWD, the car itself is made for relaxing, n the whole thing weighs 4800lb. still could sprint to 60 in under 6sec. So power source isnt an issue for toyota. What IS an issue is a lightweight racing chassis, which they honestly dont have. hence why they shacked up with BMW in the first place: BMW has the chassis available.

We all forget the reason we still think about all the old Japanese tuner cars is because you could tune them. If it's a full toyota it needs a large aftermarket support to hit the ground running. I think it's going to be a Celica with the 2.0L and the 8GR for the Supra. For the body I think it will be a down market LC500 or the LC gets discontinued and the SC comes back. Well, if any of this is true… I’m keeping my MK5. To be clear, I would never purchase a BMW. However, without question, the B58 is a reliable engine that can make crazy power that makes close to 450-460 crank horsepower. My 6-speed manual made 403WHP on the sumo. My only gripe is the plastic valve cover and plastic coolers. If anyone thinks a 3JZ is a possibility… no way Toyota will ever create an iron closed deck block. The closest thing to those engines are the B58 and S58. The only possibility is the 3.3L Mazda I6. An I6 is a must for the Supra.

They wanted another inline 6 Supra and it was the only way it was going to happen. Toyota in house 6 cylinder engines are so bad they recently recalled 100,000 vehicles for issues that lead to complete engine failure. The BMW Supra will likely be the last Supra under 3,500lbs. Technology is heavy and batteries are heavier. Weight is the reason why the BMW M2 barely pulls away from the MKV Supra despite having 90 more horsepower. Performance cars really should be rated on power to weight ratio so people know when they're setting money on fire buying something obese.

Toyota could have built it, but they dont have the plant space or they didnt want to spend the money to build it. That Tundra failure is manufacturing, that engine along with NX engine has been tested a long time. They were waiting to build a new engine for LC and RC, and they have very high out put engine with higher thermal efficiency . It was just easier to outsource the parts from Bmw, and both engineering group did not see each other for more than 3 years. New Mr2 is coming along with celica, possiblity miata rival.

im just curious how theyre gonna pull off the chassis for this car. powertrain really isnt much of an issue for toyota compared to a lightweight racing chassis... which they basically have none. Coz they damn well have the engines right now, and as per toyota, in the future as well with that inline4. the 2GR is still available, albeit in hybrid form. we see that unit still in use in the LS500h and LC500h. The new V35A in hybrid form is pushing 437hp, n we looking at almost 460hp in the upcoming LX700h. so power isnt an issue. And if they truly wanna go batshit insane (for toyota atleast), well the current gen Toyota Century JDM has a hybridized 5L V8 thats producing ~430hp, and that V8 was detuned to produce that amount of hp. coz we know that that V8 on its own can push out 470hp. so imagine a electric supercharger with that fullbore 5L V8 thats producing close to 600hp,, n then augmented with a powerful hybrid from their PHEV line. thats 700hp easy. So yeah. engine is no issue. but chassis.... a lightweight chassis is whats toyota missing right now.

Traditionally the Soarer/SC version of the Supra has always had a longer wheel base, so that's possibly why a Lexus version of the Supra could have the space for four seats. Also if Toyota is planning this and doing it smart the Supra, IS and RC could all be under the same platform basically. They've been delaying going to the TNGA platform for the IS/RC for a while now, the IS/RC are still technically on the same platform that was introduced in 2005 of the IS, just obviously heavily modified.

When you throw on an electric helper engine, they do better without losing torque output/drivetrain losses when attached directly to power transmission devices (preferably at the differential, though I've seen them on the crankshaft too, taking the place of a starter). One surefire way to get a bulletproofed I6 is to modernize the JZ platform. Not that it's going to hurt the old engine, but replacing the iron block with a stout forged aluminum block would transfer well into race programs. Edit: On second thought, I'd Love to see the IS500 V8 show up in a Supra and throw on some juice.
