Excellent video, every fighter should watch this video and train same way to familiarize with the water pressure in your district. Deserves one million views.

Let me start by saying thanks for your video. Something to think about, Our department also has the "dont go below 20" residual policy. However, you are hooked to the hydrant with soft sleeve hose. Thus your not going to be able to pull a vacuum on the hydrant because the hose will collapse. 2nd the 20 psi is measured at the pump not at the hydrant. So even if you are at 5 psi or even near 0, you still have positive pressure between the hydrant and the pump. One other thing I had been taught wrong for years is we always "pause" in the middle when shifting from road gear to pump gear and vice versa. Why?? It tells us throw from road to pump there is no need to pause in the middle. The only reason the middle setting is there is for a manual pump shift override situation. Again not tearing down at all I just think its good discussion. Thank you sir for taking time to keep training and providing resources.

Yes, are correct that the middle of your pump shift is neutral per say on the pump air shift slave cylinder on the pump transfer case. where there is no pressure pushing it in or out and you can go under there and manually shift it on the eye ring. The reason they teach to leave it in the neutral position is so it just doesn't slam it into gear.

Lt. Shannon, have you done any work pulling from a portable tank with 1 vs. 2 5" rigid suction lines to see flow rates?
