@@shmoofgang For a rear wheel drive drag racing car, if traction is poor due to a poor surface, or sub-optimal rear suspension or tires, adding weight to the rear of the car will increase traction at the drive wheels. Most guys would put some ballast in the trunk, but this guy bolted it directly to the rear axle so that it doesn't affect the performance of the springs and shocks, being unsprung weight. Check out Beater Bomb on KZbin, he's added weight on a steel outrigger that hangs well beyond the rear bumper.
