When storms strike and there is no drinking water to be had, Maldives will have no one to help it out but India (if past is any guide). With global warming and climate change causing exceptionally powerful storms along with rising sea levels, it is just a matter of time before Maldives will find out why it is a bad idea to antagonize India.

What problem other than to the 23,000 Indian workers? India used to these double games by Srilanka and Nepal a number of times. Pakistan was delirious when Taliban occupied Kandahar. Pakistanis were doing Gangnam dance in tandem saying India lost it's assets ie. The dams, roads, infrastructure, dams and electricity supply all going down to the gutter little understanding that all is for the sake of common Afghans unlike the cash and carry or leave your asset policy of China. Indian student's Canadian dream fell flat after Trudeau for the sake of political milage put the friendly relationship between the countries to a standstill. Despite many students getting disappointed, GOI took bold diplomatic decisions. So what worse can come from smaller countries? It's all usually associated with the fence sitters. India keeps helping as usual for the people of those countries. Ultimately China purchases Maldives and sets up a military watch tower. India is too small to do anything. It's a headache to the US.
