This is ALL TIME greatness! I just discovered this song less than a year ago, and it never leaves my mind. When I first heard it, I had no idea who it was, I just had this phrase in my mind...blood keeps flowing. Research on google brought me to this amazing song.. another song that I just caught a phrase of, but loved and didn't know it was Action, by Street Heart. That was 2 years ago, but the song came out in 1978. Where the heck was I? I'm 69 years old, today. How did I miss these great songs? Maybe I was busy singing Old MacDonald to my kids. I'm just so excited when I hear old songs that I didn't grasp at the time, and they're brand new and energetic to me now. Sometimes I think I;m an old geezer, but when I hear these songs, and dance like a young'un (hoping I don't throw a hip), it makes me so happy. Music is awesome, and no matter how old you are, or how old you feel, music that you love can move you {in so many ways} like nothing else can.. Not to carry on much longer about this, but when I was a kid, my parents were really into classical, and folk music. To this day, I love both genres, as well as all the music I've learned to love since. PRIVCE RULES!!!

I totally love it, and whenever I have a music night, just by myself, this is the first song I listen to, and listen to, and listen to. Anoter one I listen to a lot, and all you out there might like it, is Tighter and Tighter, by Alive and Kicking. One hit wonder, but totally worthg the listen. Expect to want to get up and dance!!!!

I think this song is about facing suppressed emotions and dealing with what you thought you were healed from but resurface without warning and just put you right back into that vulnerable state, and there is an inevitable loss of control that comes with that. I first heard this song when I was too young to understand the meaning but I always loved the way it sounded. Now 20-ish years later I totally understand what Ian is singing about. Life, man.

This song it's very hard and near home after I had one of the greatest breakups and heartaches in 2000. I truly was in love with this woman and and she was one of the greatest lessons in my life to kick me in the ass add to face many of my fears that I was running away from.. I never really listened to the song on the CD it was on but it was something that I needed to hear and it sprung me up from Rock Bottom and to start flying up to the sky to where I am today. Just passing this message on to whoever reads this, ask for help if you are going through any form of heartbreak, depression, suicidal thoughts and ideations, any self-destructive Behavior, or simply if you just need to talk to somebody do not stuff emotions down! With that being said I am an amazing place in my life 24 years later and am rising up to do amazing things to help other people where I was at in 2000. Blessings to this band and to whoever reads this! ❤

Awesome and wisely spoken! This album WAS the only cd I had with me in a combat zone and listened to it everyday for 9 months...and it spoke to me and sounded fresh and breathing, like a human, every time I listened with deep content, knowing if I died while serving a greater cause, I could be met somewhere with this sound that makes me feel at peace with the world. My girlfriend had given up her fight with dating a military guy all the while, this album saved my life with simple words....

@chesterdolittle175711 жыл бұрын
the song is not about murder. You have to listen to the whole album. the whole album is about feelings for someone they lost. trying to suppress the feelings and later, without dealing with the emotions and loss, he feels like a hostage to it and it surrounds him, then it blows wide open, emotionally
@theandrewauld11 жыл бұрын
That's a good assessment. I remember hearing that Ian got so fed up answering the question "What is Blown Wide Open about?" that he just started saying that it was about dust bunnies. One's he thought he swept away, but didn't.

Yea I can def see the symbolism in this (which is quite obvious IMO). He throws himself down the stairs in the video, he fucked up big time, made a huge mistake and he's paying for it (hating himself in the process). "But I told her I'm sorrryyy...I never wanted it this way. I still need her, but the past won't go away". Getting blown wide open like he can't hide what he's done.

Wow. Its amazing that people drew that conclusion from this song. I know that for myself that what you described was the first conclusion I drew from listening watching the song and listening to the lyrics. I don't know if its people looking for an easy way to sensationalize a song. I don't know, I've heard about there being a moral panic going on centred around the music industry a few decades ago, but I thought that had expired by the late 90's.

Saw Big Wreck back in the early 2000s. They opened for Dream Theater who was on their Falling into Infinity tour. I was right up front and was promptly -blown wide open- with them. At the time, I was into a lot of heavy metal, but Big Wreck had a big impact on me. They lulled the fire that metal made. What a great contrast of music that night. I remember them more that night than I do Dream Theater. It was one of the more pivotal moments in my youth. Thank you Big Wreck!

This is now the fifth song in a row I've listened to for the first time by this band. I became aware of them in the last 20 minutes thanks to Rick Beato. All I can say is, considering their most recent album was released in 2017, is it's fantastic to see they are still recording music. Not only does Ian Thornley sound very similar to Chris Cornell, 'The Oaf' was an awesome introduction to what these guys can do. So happy I've discovered their sweet sound.

A song I listened to while my marriage blew up. It took awhile but in the end all ended up ok.

These guys are from Boston,they met while attending The Berklee School Of Music.. Simply put,amazing musicians.. They are clearly underrated and deserve to be much farther along 'success wise' than they are. I'm happy to see the positive comments posted on behalf of this video..
