As someone that is disabled, the python is a Godsend. I wouldn't have been able to get back into the hobby without it. Going to have to invest in the longer gravel vacuum and that hook..very cool
@swatch123455 жыл бұрын
Pro tip: Use a spare intake plastic thingy from an Aquaclear 70 or 110 and extend the Python hook for deeper water changes. Throw an intake sponge on there so you don't suck anything while emptying the aquarium. Works great for quick water changes when you don't need to gravel vac.

I made my own Python... with a submersible pump, an RV freshwater hose and a few garden hose fittings & diverter valves. It connects to my shower hose and all stores away in a 5-gallon bucket. Plus, because it uses common 3/4" garden hose fittings, I can use a inline carbon filter to remove chlorine from the water as I refill the tank.😊

I have been using the Python for years and I swear, there’s nothing better!! You can buy tubing to fit it at Lowe’s or Home Depot which is handy if you need to add longer extensions. I also connect it to my garden hose so I can drain the fish water out to the yard instead of my sink drain. ☺️

That brass “innovation” has been available at big box hardware stores’ garden supplies and plumbing section for several years
@gmoorach5 жыл бұрын
The brass connectors are great. I've been using them for over 4 years. The Python system makes water changes a breeze. However, a lot of tap water is wasted to create the negative pressure required to suck/pump the water out of your aquarium. For a small aquarium this may not be a big deal. But, for larger ones, you'll feel it in your water bill. And since I keep goldfish and do weekly 75% water changes... I put an Eheim 317 gph electric pump in line. I prime the system using the Python pump and tap water. Then I turn off the tap and pump out the water with the electric pump. When it come time to pump water back into the tank, I have to remove the Eheim pump. It can't take the tap water pressure (it will blow out). So, the brass connectors are very handy for quickly connecting and disconnecting everything.I also use the hook when refilling my aquarium. I had been placing a rock directly below the water flow, or the gravel would be dispersed. Then I saw a trick on KZbin. As it turns out, the syphon tube for the AquaClear 110 fits perfectly on the end of the Python hook. This creates a spray that doesn't disturb the aquascape.
@Tandor695 жыл бұрын
George Moorachian I am going to have to try the aquaclear tube. That is the only thing I don’t like about the hook is it sprays straight down an messes up my gravel

the higher you turn up the faucet, the faster it drains/refills. so you can keep the faucet on relatively low and get a small amount of suction. i still think it's a bit overkill for an 11 gallon, but it would eliminate buckets if thats what you really want!

You can go to a hardware store and buy the part that hooks to the sink. It's not Python tho. It's blue and it's what you use to fill and drain water beds. Buy you the adapter to connect your gravel vacuum to the end and you're ready to go.

Check your hardware store for the adaptor to go on your sink to fill and drain a water bed. It's the exact same thing as the Python but it is blue not green. Then you can use just a light weight water hose instead of the clear tubing. You can buy the adapter that goes on the end of your gravel vacuum and screw it onto the water hose end. It's a whole lot cheaper and works the same.

I still get a deep crater in my sand substrate from water flow running out of the hook...

Hi Attila I made a defuser out a scrap piece of 1 inch diameter PVC pipe I had. It was about 11 inches long (you could cut yours any length you wanted that what my scrap piece was) I drilled 4 holes on each side glued a PVC cap on the end and just shoved it on the end of the hook friction holds it in place and it works great.
