There’s definitely ways to save water if you have little tricks like you showed. When it a warmer outside mine will simply water a garden. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the tip about turning the facet water off during draining and using gravity so not to waste! Question: when you say use dechorinator for full amount of water in the tank because you’re putting water directly in, how does that differ from adding new water from a bucket? If the existing half tank of water is previously dechlorinated, why add a dose for the entire amount? Thanks! 😊

Just used mine for the first time and it was somewhat awkward. Filling was somewhat easy, all except for clearing the line of dirty water before filling the tank. Getting the suction going was also a PIA, i had to run both hot and cold to get the required suction. With that said, maybe it'll get easier with additional tries. Maybe I can arrange the hose for better suction, but first impression left me thinking "it's easier to power vacuum the water straight out the window and fill it back up with the python".

Hey man, I’m actually looking into getting this for my 55 gallon, but how do you usually know how much water you are taking out? I’m assuming you just eyeball it and is it OK to add the water first then prime after?
@TrekOnTheAir
@TrekOnTheAir 5 жыл бұрын
I usually go off percentages (like 50%). I know some people that will buy a Flow Gage that measures how many gallons goes through it and adds it in the line somewhere. As far as the prime, I would add it before or during personally. I've had fish shoe negative side effects to Chlorine pretty quickly

I've been running that filter for about a year and a half. Do you have a prefilter sponge on the intake? I had two fine sponges in series for a while, and the rattling was my clue that the pump was struggling and I should clean the sponges. I gave up on the fine sponges and now run two course sponges which don't clog so fast and the pump stays mostly silent. And the Plecos seem to like grazing on what they attract.
@mkodom88
@mkodom88 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm using the large pre filter from aquarium co-op. I wonder if the pump sound is the normal sound of the filter . I did the vasoline trick and it sounds the same . A low hum.
@ChuckD59
@ChuckD59 4 жыл бұрын
@@mkodom88 Take the filter off and listen. I think they complain loudly when under stress. Also, you can buy replacement impeller shafts for these on Amazon. They do get worn down. Just need pliers to pull the old one out. I got my sponges from American Aquarium and am satisfied. The course ones anyway. The fine ones collapsed prematurely, I thought. But I also reassessed having the fine media be the first of the process.

Thanks for the informative video! Hopefully I can buy one here in Japan! I do have a unrelated question. I recently bought a fish that I thought was a siamese algae eater but the store in Japan called it a siamese flying fox. I asked the store for an algae eater and they told me they have a golden algae eater which is not what I was looking for. Eventually I went to another store and they had the same two species in stock. I had no choice but to buy what was called the siamese flying fox but I would like to know what the differences are.

Unless you want to install a plumbed, commercial set-up; Python is the ONLY way to go for, the home aquarist! Puts the fun and enjoyment back into the hobby and completely eliminates the "chore" of water change and maintenance day. If you have multiple tanks; you'll love it all the more!!! P.S. Don't bother to waste your time or money, on the slightly cheaper, "other brand"; you will only come back for a Python. NO LEAKS!!

Yes and no, if you have a well established fully cycled filter, and the water temperature is the same then I’m okay with it, i keep fancy Goldfish and they are messy, i do a 30% water change weekly and a 70% water change once a month, I have done so for years. I think it just depends, what ever works best for you.

If you are lucky to find an attachment that fits your taps then fair play to you, I have used it multiple times and every time I get water spraying out of everywhere.
