In addition to slowing the song down significantly, Angelina stretches out many phrases. Toby is doing an excellent job allowing Angelina total control over the pacing of the song and his accompaniment is superb.

By performing in these smaller venues she is practically one on one with these young people and probably met a lot of them after the performance which I think is the point of such an intimate setting.Probably a lot of college age young adults and the word spreads fast with young people and music.I don't know why she's wearing shoes but I disagree that it's a choice . Hi Chris! With this performance as well as the performance in the cafe in LA, these were well recorded. The sound and video were really good! Hopefully when September swings around, we'll get more music and information about what is coming in the near future. I know some fans are concerned about having an older fan base, but working with Toby, I feel she will be able to bring in a younger audience and they too will become fans. It certainly feels like things are headed in the right direction!

My concern about the older fan base is that us older folks are not going to be around forever especially considering Angelina is only 18. She will need to appeal to a wind range of fans and in particular, younger fans. I don’t think she needs the teeny bopper crowd but at least starting with the low 20s, maybe late teens.

Great reaction Chris. This version came out of the blue and to be honest, I like this version of all of the live versions Angelina has performed (with one caveat). Clearly Angelina excels at live performances and I think a big reason is that she just doesn’t make any errors at all… at least as far as her voice is concerned. Angelina slipped up and missed her cue for “Diamonds are Forever” at Vegas, but once she started singing she was flawless. What makes her flawless presentations more remarkable is that they are delivered with unimaginable improvisation, a unique hallmark to her own personal style. Her voice organically comes from within and seeming just “happens.” This is nowhere more apparent than in her runs… a technique that I was never too fond of, but have grown to love coming from Angelina. *THIS* performance is dripping with that hallmark improvisation and it’s why I love it so much. The one caveat that I mentioned before has to do with her “a cappella” version in the church. The reverb coming from her and encircling the sacred space reminds me of her “garage concerts” on steroids. If her a cappella version was truly that - from start to finish, it might have edged out this Sofar version as being my favorite. 🎶💛🫶💛👣

I agree about runs. Excessive runs from artists like Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera used to annoy me. I felt that they were just doing them to show off, like saying “look what I can do”. The same with belts by artist like Mariah and Whitney Houston. But when Angelina belts or does runs, they always seem to be tasteful and as necessary for the storytelling and not just for the wow factor.

@@glengalli1288 I think her decision as to whether to wear shoes or not is more complicated than that but it *may* be a factor. I think many of theses short performances are more “ad hoc” and I wouldn’t expect that she would need to wear shoes under these circumstances. I’m pretty sure we will always see her shoeless in more “scripted” or highly produced performances. 😉☺️🥰

I totally agree Chris, this is my favorite of all the versions so far, but they are all great. The only thing I disagree with is I can't believe the Music Video & the Piano Diaries are from the same audio. They are just too different to my ears.

Yes. They are the exact same vocals. The instrumentation gives each a different feel but it is the same vocal track. One comment on another reaction said that the “hoodie” version was faster. It may seem faster to some but that’s probably just the instrumentation and the fact that Angelina is walking through the video instead of standing still. If you time both videos from the start of the singing to the end it’s the exact same time.

I’m with you Chris. I love her recent music and her performances are even more breathtaking. I know a lot of her longtime fans prefer her covers and the jazz she started with but Angelina is so much more than that and it seems important to her that she performs her own music. Otherwise she wouldn’t have written over 100 songs and continue to write. I love her original songs and hope that the majority of her future releases are originals. I’ve always had so much more respect for an artist that performs their own material.

"All My Fault" has some of her best vocals ever, "Good in Goodbyes" has ridiculously good lyrics, and " Diamond" is a total banger. I feel great about where she is heading with her original music. And now there's the jaw-dropping "Bad Valentine," which feels like its ushering in a new era..
