I am 5ft 5 inches, i have a speed 400. I bought it before the scram was launched. I have completed now more than 3000km on it including long Highway rides like Pune to Goa (500 kms) in a day. I have never faced 1 issue. I feel this bike can do it all.... In cities it takes over breakers and potholes like a charm, it has lovely suspension and superb brakes. Even on highways this is a great machine, the only issue is a slight bounciness on higher speeds on Highway. I have upgraded from a mt15 and i have been more than satisfied and happy with this machine.

I think both r near to perfect bike but da only one thing not justified on this big engine..weak headlight .it must be like projector headlamp as on pulsar N250 or RTR 310 (newly launched).. how can we install that projector in these bikes? Plz mention

@@ravneetsandhu871 the vibrations start kicking in only near 5500 rpm at each gears..... If you want a smooth ride shift gear up and it gets butter scotch....so lie that it goes absolutely vibes free till 90kmph... Till 120 there are just small vibes... Easily manageable..... The bike still has performance left you can feel that on 120... But it comes with further more vibrations... You can unlock that as well if you can handle some vibrations... Maybe gloves shoes etc help

i own a speed 400 and my main reason for picking speed over scambler is something silly... it is pillion seat height, although that was the main reason i sold my r15 and bought this so that my mother can seat on my bike but after 2500km+ i can see that the speed it self has everything to do softroads and very very mild offroad... all i need is to add a strong bash plate and there is nothing to worry... i feel like after sometime, I change my tyre with something that can help me in offroad and also change the sprocket with the scambler's one then this will be more suited to me... i believe this is 60-70 percentage of what scambler can do and still is compact

Hello Sir Great content. I loved the scrambler from the day the spy shots were leaked. After waiting for a long time and due to a desperate need of a motorcycle, I owned a Hunter 350. Rode for around 9k kms and sold it off. As you guys rightly mentioned, I was little skeptical of the scrambler though I love it for all the reasons you said; I was ready to compromise for a speed 400 just because of the seat height. When I went to Triumph for a second test ride and was almost ready to book the speed 400, I very hesitantly took a test ride of the scrambler and fell in love instantly. As you said I told myself, I need to skill up to manage the tall seat height and booked my scrambler khaki green. Tomorrow is my bike's delivery!...Excited!! Thanks a lot for your inputs.

Another comparo video done well! Agree with all points. If you got the extra cash and want a more versatile machine, it is better to go for the Scrambler. It also feels bigger (for a big bike feel) due to the long travel suspension and larger front wheel, as some people prefer that after spending on a 400 cc machine. For me, the Speed works well due to the following reasons: 1. Love the timeless roadster design. 2. The diminutive size of the Speed helps to stay under the radar, especially in black like mine. Unless you notice the lights or that big Triumph logo on the tank, it can easily pass off as a 150. I wish they used the same logo as on the Scrambler. 3. Suspension tuning actually feels better on the Speed on the road. 4. My usage is mainly city commutes in packed Bengaluru traffic, with occasional highway runs. The size and nimbleness helps here. 5. Pre 2024 price was actually incredible value for money for the package you get. I need to add a few accessories along the way, the most important of which are the tank pads. Wonder when they'll be in stock 😤. Might also get the double barrel exhaust somewhere down the line. One weird thing I want to point out is the headlight mounts. The aluminium ones on the Speed look so good! The steel ones on the Scrambler, while more durable against falls or bumps, look like PVC pipes with that paint!

Get a lower engine guard, sump guard and back rack as accessories from Triumph(surprisingly economical..!)...In a black speed 400, the aluminum finished backrack along with its side bars look stunning...It costs only 2000/-₹ and the tax along with labour charge will cost an additional 800₹... Further, apart from the looks, it adds to the luggage capacity as well as offering additional safety to pillion rider since there is enough and more area for support if at all the person falls back...Happy cruising fellow rider...👍🏼

@@West2WesternGhats Thanks for the suggestions! I was planning on the lower engine guard and sump guard as well, subject to availability of course 😁. The luggage rack is also a useful accessory for sure. I'm not sure if I will install a top box, but would be good to have the provision if I decide to.
@West2WesternGhats
@West2WesternGhats Жыл бұрын
@@the_winged_helm Rear rack without the top box I meant...it shouldn't be considered as an accessory, but as part of the bike. You see, the rear part of Speed 400 looks oddly out of shape because the mud guard projects far out. When you place the rear rack, the length of the bike increases postero_superiorly, covering the rear mud guard over and above, there by making the bike proportionate and symmetrical... That's why I would like you to accessorise the bike with a back rack... It can be used for tailbags, thus freeing up the back seat for a pillion rider. Personally I feel a topbox doesn't do justice in a retro modern design. Further the bike isnt large enough for a top box...

Sir I tried both the models of Triumph 400, I find the Speed 400 performance at the highest levels it's quick fast to accelerate and matches the Scrambler in Top End, the Scrambler got a linear acceleration takes its own time to build up speed ,it's the same slow sluggish movement in all the gears ! I get the idea of speed being primarily a commuter bike. But I love my speed and use mainly for long rides. Have done 9000+ kms already in 3 months. I still love the bike and have never felt uncomfortable. Only issue is the mild vibration at top end. But since I rarely go past 100 kmph, not a big deal for me. Also I don't go off road. But during the rides, I have ridden on some pretty bad roads including some under construction where I could hear pebbles hitting the mud guard. The bike handled those roads fine. But I don't feel confidence in the tires to handle really tricky situations. Overall good bike for touring.

With stickier tyres,speed offers a pleasant and comfortable ride onroad at higher accelarations. Riding triangle is surprisingly comfortable and the only drawback on long rides is the lack of space and luggage carrying options which can be ironed out commendably by adding triumph's own back rack if you are a solo traveller. With a pillion, space matters..! Always remember, smaller tyres give better comfort on road... Those 17 inch ones are pure bliss...Another issue is the inaccurate fuel guage which hasnt improved even after two software updates. Coupled with the small fuel tank, you need to get your math right while deciding a fuel stop..! Other than these issues, I absolutely love my speed400; with stunning looks and world class built quality which you can only dream of in a motorbike made in our country. Completed nearly 4000kms with two long rides.

Even though this comparison is valid and balanced to an extent, for the daily riding folks and occasionally long distance touring folks, the Speed 400 comes around as a approachable, comfortable and much affordable option. The speed vs scram comparison is a bit wrong, & the competitors of the speed belong to the retro cruisers category, amongst which the speed 400 is a no-brainer for anyone who is expecting some performance & good handling 👍 (This comment is w.r.t the fact that most ppl just do touring on regular roads, and a few off road patches, which the speed is more than capable to handle and excel)

Understood and this is video information that can help someone on the fence between the two available in the same showroom and not a verification or certification. It's an opinion. Finally a test ride is what will provide answers to the buyer. And you've said what we've said too to a large extent. Cheers!

I had gone to the showroom to purchase speed 400. I changed my mind after the test ride - just felt that it was scrambler that was more suitable for me - superb bike.. But one grievance i have with the scrambler is, the headlights aren't powerful enough.. especially the high beam. Low beam is alright..

Oh god ! I’m around your age (meaning Old !), riding a big & beefy Kawi 650 Cruiser since 2018, didn’t need another bike, but couldn’t resist the temptation of owning a Triumph for under Rs 3 L, so booked a Speed on the same day its price was announced, got it home (despite the Residency road test ride experience during peak hour, despite feeling guilty of squandering money on yet another motorcycle at this age !), enjoying the agile, peppy and cute motorcycle for a few months.. But it seems you guys are determined to make me poorer and feel “guiltier” by recommending Scram (as my yet another motorcycle) 😉

I felt this video was overly negative towards what the speed is good at. No mention of the grippier tyres, the sportier stance, the looks that many people prefer over an ADV sort of offroader style, the pillion accessibility. People have done Ladakh on the speed with no issues and 1000s of kilometers of highways easily so calling it a bike that will be meh on highways is just silly. With the growth in your channel I hope you will also learn to see the perspective of different types of riders instead of only catering to the ADV-style community.
@bigbearbangalore

Yes, we are ADV riders and tourers and we share from that perspective. Negative or not is a perception. You've shared yours and we've shared ours. No right no wrong, but just a perception. And its an individual choice. Thanks.

I took the test of both speed and scrambler... Braking in scrambler was very weak for the pick up it had... Kinda felt non confident during the ride.. Whereas speed was not the same case.. Break bite was very good... Is this that specific bike issue or the scrambler is designed that way? I saw reviews where they mentioned about sintered pads in speed and organic pads in scrambler.. Can we switch the sintered into scrambler too and get a better breaking? Bosky, need your comment on this... Thanks 😊 This review really helped me to decide between both as I was having confusion choosing between them... Thank you for this very much meaningful review

Thank you both for your in-depth and entertaining reviews. I am in the USA and just learning to ride a motorcyle. I want to purchase a small capacity single cylinder bike. Can you comment (or do a video) on how the Triumph Speed 400 compares to the RE Hunter 350. I can appreciate the recommendation to go with the Triumph Scrambler 400, however, for a beginner rider in the USA where I would be doing back /country roads and suburb driving (with limited highway riding) would you recommend the Speed 400 vs. Hunter 350? I have seen many reviews where the Speed 400 doesn't have the visceral experience /joy that the Hunter 350 does. Thank you.

Brakes can be the same. Like tyres, brakes are also standardised to a large extent in the interest of cost control. While anything is possible I don't think the wheels are a direct fit. And Triumph have officially stated that the alloys on the Scrambler are tougher than regular alloys and are good enough for non-professional off-roading. And if there is still a concern, just carry a spare tube just in case of any rim damage.

I test drove both speed and scrambler. I liked the scrambler over speed 400. But I have narrow shoulders, and 900mm wide handle bar, got me concerned about effect on my shoulders or arms in Bangalore city driving and navigating short turns like u-turn. The test drive was short duration, so I could not fully analyse it. I ride Yamaha FZS. Could you please share your thoughts about wide handlebar posture?

Wide bars = easier to operate. You can cut an inch off at either end to narrow it but that could mean no bar end weights.
