Fun fact, something they don't mention in the game: The Seven Dwarves were the ones that abused, mistreated, and enslaved Snow White at the time. They were anything but friendly. So yeah, never mention the dwarves around Snow.

Additional Fun Fact: Snow White from the game acts completely different from the Snow White from the comics. Maybe the sequel will explain how she became a cold and distant woman. With Fables in the original comic, their immortality is tied to the knowledge of their particular fairy tale role amongst normal/mundane people (Mundies). Bigby who appears in a few different stories is pretty safe, while Woody would probably be permanently dead if he was ever killed, though as the intro shows he can take a lot of punishment.

I think the sequel getting tossed was part of the same mismanagement that led to the collapse of Telltale Games. I understand they've been reopened under new management and retain the rights to some sets of IP (like The Wolf Among Us and Batman), but that sudden closing remains a mystery to me. I know they blamed it on sales not being as strong as they had thought, but something about it still feels hinky.

Just to clarify a widely misunderstood concept about the Fable-verse: All Fables have more-or-less infinite natural lifespans in the mundane world, but only those whose stories are widely remembered and retold are capable of resurrecting from the dead if something that can kill them does (even the least-remembered Fables are quite a bit hardier than mundies).

Toad is from a book called Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. The book is set in a sort of Edwardian English setting (about 1900-1914) and focusses on four anthropomorphic animal characters; Mole, his friend Ratty and their mutual friends Toad and Badger. Toad in the story is a bit of a handful and is constantly having to be bailed out of trouble by his friends. Basically the closest thing I can compare it to is Winnie the Pooh but with the characters being adults and with a lot more peril and threat.

Well ... sort of. The truth is that Bigby was infected with lycanthropy ... by Snow White. She stabbed him with an enchanted blade that gave him the condition. Bigby consented to her doing it though, as it was necessary to enable him to take human form. Prior to that, Bigby's only form was his true form: The Big Bad Wolf. Which we see later in this series.

Mythology to understand(with no major spoilers):The Fables of different worlds came to the Mundy world because an evil thing called the Adversary took it upon himself to crown himself Emperor, using an army of dragons, goblins and monsters to conquer the different realities. Worlds fallen include Oz, the Jungle Book and Narnia. One of the only worlds still holding firm against them are the Arabian Land(lead by Sinbad). When coming to the new world, every Fable signed a general amnesty that gave them forgiveness for all their past crimes(Bigby himself had killed hundreds in his quest to be "the Big Bad Wolf", but there are others like Jack of Tales who killed giants or Bluebeard(who murdered all his wives)that also benefitted from it. Mr.Toad is from "The Wind In The Willows". He was obsessed with cars then too. The Farm is not an execution, if thats what you thought. It's a location for all non human fables(talking animals, dragons, giants and the like). They're unable to leave the grounds and theres only so many places they can go. Bigby, however, is forbidden from going there because the animal Fables all fear him. Speaking of Kratos, Bigby is voiced by Brokk, the bald dwarf of the sons of Ivaldi. Theres some suggestion that the popularity of a character in the Mundy world makes the characters stronger, more invulnerable. Fables are really tough by themselves, but one character(who never appears in this game, don't worry)takes an axe to the head, is beaten, falls down a cliff, is hit by a truck and falls into a raging river and survives. Because she's so popular, she survives it all and recovers later. Another character(who only is mentioned in a short poem)dies and never returns, despite their importance to the story thus far. Riding Hood never made it out of the Homelands. Grimble is the troll from "Billy Goats Gruff". He has a glamour on. Colins two siblings still live on the Farm. Bufkin is a flying monkey from Oz. Ichabod Crane is from "Legend of Sleepy Hollow", where he faces the Headless Horseman. "Dwarves.The less said about that the better." Snow Whites story is not nearly as sweet as in the Mundy version. The dwarves enslaved her. Snow eventually went back and took revenge after learning swordfighting from her husband, Prince Charming. Beauty and TJ are voiced by Melissa Hutchinson(Clementine from "the Walking Dead"). Bigby smokes so much because his wolf senses are so strong that he is in constant overload from the city. The cigarettes block his senses, thats why he discards the cigarettes whenever he's working a crime scene. Lawrence tried to kill himself multiple ways after Faith left him, including pills, gunshot to the heart and slit wrists. If you choose to go to him first, you arrive before Dee arrives and he survives, as he doesn't shoot himself in the head. If you ask Woody if he killed Faith, he seems shocked that she is dead and mentions being thrown down the Witching Well(which Bigby threatens Dee with later). The Witching Well is one of the only ways to deal with dangerous Fables or execute them. The blue haired man, Gren, is Grendel from the epic poem "Beowulf". In the original poem, Beowulf tears his arm off and you can see his shoulder has a mark from where his arm was reattached. If you were mean, you could have reenacted the story. :)

This game and it's upcoming sequel (which comes out sometime next year) are both prequels to DC's Fables comic series. The game is set in 1986, nearly 20 years before the events of Fables. After you play this, you should really play Tales from the Borderlands too, it's one of the funniest games I've ever played.

Wow, what an original playthrough! Not only are the speech choices ever-so-slightly different that they drag out just the right bit of info surprisingly early (except for the part where the Woodsman never even heard about Faith xD), I didn't expect anyone to know the "girl with the ribbon" story...

im not familiar with the comic books but this game is so amazing in that its done in such a stylized way leaning towards the neo noir genre. if you love movies like Drive, The Thief, Old-boy or Terminator as examples i feel like one can really enjoy this.

Whoa. I love the Wolf story, saw many letsplays of it and NOBODY I've seen ever made the ribbon connection already in the first episode. Kudos to you, girl 😲😲😲 Also... almost nobody saved Prince Lawrence by visiting him first, waaah!

Grendel is the monster from the ancient legend of Beowulf. Having the choice of ripping off his arm is a reference to how Beowulf tore off Grendel's arm in their fight at Hrothgar's Hall.
