I have an 2008 civic LX, I pulled that cover off like u showed and no tweeter was there that’s probably the reason why my factory sound is hands down the worst I have ever heard in any vehicle I have owned, so I went to a junkyard and found a civic that had the tweeters and clipped them from the harness, and wired them to my stereo wiring behind the radio, the wiring was actually super easy to run. And holy cow it made a world of a difference, now it doesn’t sound like there is only one speaker in the rear of the car working. Thanks for the video!

I too have an LX, and I'm looking to fit in new tweeters into the existing slots soon, do you know of any videos or guides on how to install the tweeters there and doing the wiring and whatnot (mainly the wiring and what goes where etc), it'll be done with an aftermarket radio too
@Bolensgoldrush3 жыл бұрын
Awesome video. Too many people film themselves installing something in a car and you can never see what the hell they're doing (since cars have so many awkward angles you have to work around). You do a great job of showing the install clearly despite the awkward angles. Keep it up!

Update: I installed aftermarket tweeters in this location just fine using existing factory wiring, but it is a bit tricky just because there isn't much wire to work with and the space itself is super cramped for your hands to work in. 1: You have to cut off the existing Honda wire harness. 2: You need to splice the old wires to the new using solder shrink terminals or posi locks. The posi locks are easier, but not as secure. I chose the solder terminals for this location because that location is up against the windshield where there could be moisture, especially in the winter. Also to note, the existing factory wire is very flimsy. Not that it matters as much for a tweeter, but Honda definitely went with the el-cheapo wire. The wires are difficult to strip in this location, but it can be done after much cursing and messing around. Has anyone ran new speaker wire to this location? If so, how'd you do it?

Not all eighth generation Civic models (2006-2011) have tweeters so should be sure to verify your application. Coupe models usually have a different part number.

If your Civic doesn’t have speakers installed when you took the cover off, you likely don’t have a harness there either. Your model just didn’t come with it. You will need to buy wires and tap into the output for the door speakers. I bought the cheapest tweeters at Walmart for $10, 14 gauge speaker wire, and a wire stripper. Then I took off a lot of panels, ran the wire through. I tapped into the supply, there are resources online about which ones to go to but I’ll say here too. The biggest harness clip for the radio is where I did it, I opened the coat about 2 inches from the clip and tapped into it with the wires I ran. The light green is left front positive. Pink is left front negative. Gray is right front positive. Brown is right front negative. It’s confusing because there are multiple browns and grays but the right ones are the ones that are mirrored from where the pink and light green are. You need to connect the wires of the tweeters to the wires you ran. Make sure when you ran the wires they are decently tight so they don’t get caught on anything mechanical. To secure the tweeters to the cover, I ran some electrical tape around the tweeter for like 4-8 layers until it fit snug into the cover. It shouldn’t fall out if it’s tight. Also, don’t forget to cover all the exposed wiring you made with electrical tape, you don’t want shorts. This was my first time doing any car electrical work and it wasn’t so hard, it did take me like 5 hours. One of my speakers that I bought was bad so I returned it with the good one still installed in the car. Walmart took it. Then I bought the same type I returned. Costed me like $35 including tools, parts, and wires. I already had electrical tape and a knife to cut the tape.

is there an inline capacity further down the line? im thinking of upgrading to new tweeters and dont want the stock capacitor there. or is that orange capacitor the one and only one on the oem tweeter?
@soliloquist Жыл бұрын
In general you will have the tweeters if you have "Premium Sound" Trims that come with Premium Sound - EX Coupe (Non Navi / Navi ) - SI Coupe (Non Navi / Navi ) - SI Sedan (Non Navi / Navi ) Trims that DO NOT come with Premium Sound - EX Sedan (Non Navi / Navi ) - LX Coupe / Sedan - DX / DX-G - Hybrid What is Premium Sound? - 350 Watt External Amp, 4 Speakers, 2 Tweeters, 1 Subwoofer What is Non-Premium Sound? - 160 Watt Internal Amp, 4 Speakers, 0 Tweeters, 0 Subwoofer There is one exception that makes this a little messy. The EX Sedan does not have Premium Sound but does have the tweeters. So 4 Speakers, 2 Tweeters, but no Subwoofer and no external amp.
@Jesse.00 Жыл бұрын
I always thought this same thing. I have an 2006 lx coupe, no premium sound, and no amp. I was going to put aftermarket speakers in with tweeters, but when I pulled up this grill, there were tweeters. So now I'm just beyond confused

I must be missing something or got screwed some how! I went to install aftermarket tweeters in my 2011 Honda civic sedan and when i popped of the plastic dash corner speaker grill to my surprise there was no tweeter installed and no wiring or harness. just an empty whole! So i couldn't install my tweeters cause i had nothing to work with. =( Is this normal for my car?
@eksine4 жыл бұрын
to mount a new tweeter is not that hard. cut off the plastic ring. just wrap foam around the new tweet or use metal straps and bend them to make your mount or use something similar to a coat hanger. that thing is just a grille cover, nobody said you had to use it for the mounting bracket. for me I'm doing this, disconnect the old tweet and leave the old connector there, run your own new primary 18 or 16 gauge wire through the dash, the wire will come out the bottom, just route it to your crossover and 3m double sided tape to stick it somewhere and route a pair of wires through the door rubber boot to your new mid-woofers, or just wire your own capacitor or however you want to do it

Can you install component speakers in this way? I would love to use existing tweeter/speaker locations to install a quality set of component speakers if at all possible. i have a 2006 Honda Civic LX Coupe
@BigDog500015 жыл бұрын
You can but of course it is not as easy. On of the biggest issue is making sure the new speakers will fit the existing locations (will they fit in dash or do the windows hit the speakers in the door when the window goes down etc). Installing component speakers usually involves some kind of modification to mounting surfaces too. You also need a place to hide any separate crossovers and wiring to them (this is sometimes a bit of a challenge when one speaker is in door and the other is in dash like this vehicle).
@jacksonludwig85605 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting this. Planning on installing Alpine component speakers. I have the doors/rear deck figured out including the mounting, but that tweeter location is tough to work with. Without the factory tweeter, I have concerns about the wiring since I haven’t found a compatible harness for that location even if the tweeter itself fits or I can glue gun it in there.
