Most newer Hondas, like those with keyless push to start systems, require the use of a Honda factory capable scan tool if any of the remote key FOBs need to be programmed, so if you do not have access to a scan tool the vehicle will need to be taken to a shop that does. I laughed at the end of the video. Some guy told me the only way to program my FOB was to take it to him or an authorized Honda dealership. I was expecting this code to bring out a high tech device, hook it up to the car, and punch in codes. People are ridiculous for taking advantage of those that don't know any better. This method is to only program the remote. If you want a new key to start the car, yes most cases you need to go to the dealer.

there are 3 keys there. metal, door fob and rfid that allows the engine to start. if the rfid is missing, starter cranks, but never start the car.

This is the whole automotive industry… Ive been doing autoglass for almost 12 years and the scam in our industry is mandatory ADAS Calibrations. P.S. if anyone reading this gets offended, Ive had this argument with people many times including with an “automotive engineer” and I win everytime. I do calibrations on a daily basis, understand whats going on in the software, have talked to ADAS equipment manufacturers, tested without and with calibrations and much much more. Theres a time and place for calibrations. Misleading people to think it causes a risk to safety and charging a mandatory fee of $120-$250 for something they dont necessarily need is a scam. Especially when most calibrations take under 10 minutes

@@Tinsletooth what is "calibration"? is it related to the rfid in the fob? i got a spare key for my 2012 prius, and i paid 120 for 10 min work to a locksmith. he did program my fob using his own key-programming device, autel or innova. can i do it without? on my 2010 rav4, some vehicles you can do with opening the doors, but on others you need a key-programmer device.

@julslea make sure all doors are closed. The door light on the odometer panel is not 100% accurate. I thought mine didn't work. When I made sure all of my doors were properly closed, it worked.

It's so wrong and it should be criminal that they still charge you for a fault they couldn't repair and that you actually repaired yourself in a minute after watching a video.......... Fokkers. $229 for a minutes work....lets call it 15 minutes after you stated your problem, they put the car in the shop, spent a couple of minutes tooling around, spent a minute fixing the problem (which they couldn't actually achieve), spent a couple more minutes tooling around, put your car back in the lot....charged you $229 for 15 minutes work........that's $916 per hour and they couldn't even fix the problem!!!!!!! They probably knew exactly how to fix it in a minute....but they couldn't justify $229 for 15 minutes work so they though they could milk even more.....you were likely given an option to leave it with them but they can't estimate the cost as they don't know the problem. Scam garage #1 would have fixed your car (in a minute) and charged $350- and you would have been happy because it's not so much more than the $229!!!! Scam garage #2 would have fixed the problem (also in a minute) but you would have been charged $850 and not got your car back for 4 days!!!! Glad you fixed this yourself after some googling. There are really great honest mechanics out there, but it can be hard to identify them...especially if you're on a trip!!!!

Dealerships are pricing themselves out of business, I worked as a mechanic at a Chevrolet dealer for 15 years. What upset me more than anything else was a customer comes in with a camaro, one of the brake light bulbs is out. It takes only minutes to replace. I'd tell the customer to go over to the parts dept and get a bulb (cheaper at any auto parts place as dealers mark up stuff 100 to 1000%), they'd bring the bulb and I'd change it in the service drive (I also wrote service for 2 years). The service manager tells me, don't do that, we're here to make money. Here's how it goes, the labor rate at the time was 115.00 per hour. There's a minimum half hour checkout time (diagnosis), then the book time which could be .2 of an hour, if it's customer pay the labor goes up, most mechanics would charge .5. Take 115.00 divided by 2 =57.50, then add the .2 (possible book time)=23.00 = 80.50 or .5 labor at 57.50 + 57.50 diag time which makes the dealer 115.00, to change a light bulb? To me, this is no way to run a business, I had to leave and find another career from burn out and I was tired of seeing customers fleeced out of money which is plain old robbery. I would tell people when you take your vehicle for repairs, unless it's warranty avoid dealers like the plague. If no warranty ask the shop their labor rate per hour and what the parts cost, then look for the lowest labor rate (make sure the mechanic is ASE cert), then call around and check prices on what they want for the part, when you find the part at the dealer is sky high, ask why the part is so high. If the excuse sounds like BS, look for another shop.

Thanks for the video - I really struggled however to program 3 keys but worked it out. For multiple keys follow video instructions 1) turn 1st yet to position 2, then hold off button 1 sec then then off, wait one second and repeat 4 times. As soon as you hear the locks engage on the 4th try 2) press the lock button on each other remote a second apart. 3) the final important step is to press the lock button again on the key still in the ignition again one last time to program the 1st key in again and to complete the process. The whole last step of three keys needs to be completed in 5 seconds (ie 10 sec in total).

Holy !!!!! It worked!!!!! After much research this actually worked!!! I cleaned the board etc and nothin even replaced the battery but this was the solution. My unlock button was the only one that worked but it actually locked the car . So i press the lock button for the program procedure and that did the trick .

This worked like a charm on my wife’s 2014 CR-V except I had to use the lock button, the unlock button didn’t work. Also on the fourth cycle the doors didn’t lock or unlock but after completing the sequence and removing the key it worked perfectly. Thanks again!!

If they aren't already cut to the car, the Immobilizer chip will probably need to be programmed to the car. A scan tool is necessary for that.

Son of a gun, it finally worked! Has the worst luck ever. My key fob stopped working, had to break into my car then alarm wouldn't stop, disconnected the battery and just felt defeated. Plugged battery back on, did exactly* as he did (start from 0 turn to II) AND don't forget the last part, opening door closing then unlocking again. That's what cleared it.

I'm not made of $ so I plan to treat them good understanding their probably not going to last like factory as he said. One thing he did tell me I believe 100% is that the Ignition switch itself is a poor design, showed me why. I have a parts car so I'll be nice to it and when it dies I will replace myself.

Spot on mate, it worked a treat. That waiting one second before you turn on again is good advice but you have up to five seconds to complete it each time, and if you have additional keys you leave the key in the ignition as this fella has done on the fourth click then all you have to do is one click on each additional key fob once for one second and you have 10 seconds to complete that process.

If you have a honda accord like in this video like I do, what I did was buy a programmable key fob off Amazon for like $8 (mine came with a dummy key if I wanted to get it cut at a locksmith) and program it to the car using this video

You saved me again man. For some reason my 04 Accord key fob forgot its setting and I could only lock and unlock the driver side. I had a feeling it had something to do with the key fob programming and I found your vide. Now the door lock like they're supposed to. Btw, I'll be doing the rack and pinion on this car soon. Hoepfully you have a video on here about how to do that job. 🤔

You can only program the remote on your Honda NOT THE KEY PORTION. NOT THE TRANSPONDER....

Abbey Something Normal I don’t believe it will start, otherwise, he would have started the vehicle. Which brings me to the next question, why even bother? You will still need the dealership or a locksmith to program the actual key. Correct me if I’m wrong please.

2012 Honda Civic LX 4 door and it worked like a charm....Thanks!!!! I just had my ignition assembly fixed my a lock Smith. Don't pay Honda close to $1000 when you can pay a locksmith $200 to repin the tumbler. Don't remove the steering wheel it will mess with the sensor and you'll have to have the lights reset it pretty much trips everything. Just pull the steering wheel out as far as you can remove the assembly and bring it to a locksmith it is much cheaper. You can buy a new assembly but the new keys that come with the new assembly won't be programmed to your reader that goes over your ignition. You'll have to either have it programmed which Honda will charge you a lot of money. You're better off having a locksmith recut your original keys and repin the Tumblr to your existing keys pattern. They will make new keys in the same original pattern. Most of the time the whole assembly doesn't fail it's only the ignition tumbler pins that need replacing. Honda will charge you for a whole new unit and the programming they won't do what a locksmith does

This worked for our Honda Mobilio 2017. First, I tried cleaning just like before (alcohol/WD40). Wiped and used blower but still the fob key is malfunctioning. But this time this method of yours worked! Thanks!

Can you help me? I used this procedure to program a new key for my 2011 CRV. The fob part now works to lock and unlock the vehicle. However, when using this key thr car dies immediately after starting which indicates that the security chip did not get programmed. Any tips? I have tried this procedure many times with no luck.

Absolutely works on a 2009 Accord Ex-L. Fixed a broken set of keys for $8, just needed a new case, programming it using this method was easy on the first try!

Great vid! I replaced my battery but the key fob didn’t work to unlock the car so I programmed it like the video but I didn’t hear and clicks and it still doesn’t work. The light on the lock button of the key fob just comes on for a bit then goes out. When I press the unlock button on the key fob the light doesn’t come on. What do you think the issue is please?

Great idea! I Didn't think to check the fuses. My 2003 Honda Odyssey key cylinder got bad and wouldn't turn the key. I bought the new one with the wire harness and replaced it. Now my Honda starts- but then turns off and won't restart. The battery is good and charged I don't what I did wrong! LOL again- thanks for taking the time to share this video I appreciate it and I subscribed :)

Thank! I tried it and it worked on 2013 Accord. Before it would not lock with the lock button but it will lock with the unlock button. Then the red light would stayed on for about 10 seconds. I follow your instructions and it worked again like normal. Thank you!!!!

I also have a 2014 Sport, I have 1 original key and 2 replacement keys. I followed his video but the doors never locked/unlocked to indicate that the programing took. Could you explain what you did different from the video (if anything) to get yours to work, I'm getting pretty frustrated and had to walk away from it 😮😮

I had a problem on a 2014 Honda City Key, when I pressed unlock, the car would lock, and pressing Lock did nothing. It was like the key was not synchronized... Surprisingly what worked for me was something I found on other video's comments: pressing the lock button multiple times 10x-30x, I'm not sure how many times I did it neither the frequency. But IT WORKED!

On some models pressing the lock or unlock button at least 10 times in a row can reset the transmitter, which can correct certain issues. It does not work on all models though.
