There is NOTHING like this on the market. I am a long time car audio fan with deep knowledge of brands all the way from skar audio up to fancy stuff like mosconi, focal, etc.. There is literally nothing like this that i've ever seen. There are several 6 or 8 channel amps.. but none of them have any decent power on the sub channel. I am a person where 1-2kw will do it for me.. but i cant stand using a amp with only 500 or 600w on the sub channel. I dont even need an amp but I am probably going to pick one of these up just to keep on hand for my next build i do. Once these sell out, it will be hard to ever find anything like them again.

I'd like to see Sam go over this amp from stem to stern. Maybe test the amp for THD at rated output as well. IMO the real turning point for these D4S amps will be if/when someone uses one for a competition SQ system....and is at least competitive. We hear all the time that the amp is the least important element in a true SQ system. Well, this is the perfect amp to confirm or disprove that claim. Excellent overview and dyno video Dereck!

Thanks Mark. I don’t think SQ judges would appreciate a D4S amp but maybe they don’t look or care about the brands…or maybe…

UPDATE: Before I got rid of my Kia, I ran this exact amp^^ for a couple months on a Sinfoni Tempo 3 way set, and a Savard Hi-Q 15, (signal processed by a Helix Ultra). I have zero complaints about this amplifier. It did everything I wanted it to. I just plugged it into the system and ran everything at zero gain, (because I didn't feel like measuring, or messing with anything). This thing is stout, and treated all of my speakers pretty well. I was considering selling it to help fund my current build, but after seeing it in this video again, maybe I'll just hang onto it. It's a solid piece of work, so far.

Not trying to downplay the amp, because it's still impressive, but what would make you choose this over say, 2x Taramps DS 4000x4's which would give you 8kw rms vs this one that does almost 4k? Looking at the components on the outputs this is also a class D so sound quality should be pretty much the same.
@erik1207192 жыл бұрын
@@00000005547 bc taramps are garbage for both SQ and build quality. ive run half the power of the taramps in exact setup , played deeper and louder. ive put many taramps in bike installs with PA stuff and SQ was junk, it was loud asf but that what the customer waz looking for so it served its purpose, for me, the wont ever be a brazilian amp in my vehicles ever again. the md8k was flaky, didnt last long, got excuses from customoer service, and was told it may be almost 4 months for repair...threw in garbage and replaced with a cheap rp4500 and it WAY outshined the 8k in both loudness and authority down low.

Not planning on pushing this to it's limits (power output wise), but utilizing the number of channels (set for the tweeters, set for the front woofers, set for the rear woofers, and another for the sub, DSP/EQ controlled, ~1100W RMS combined going by rated RMS of each driver). Rockford has had amps with massive dynamic headroom for years. This is indicative of a well designed amplifier. When there are big or loud peaks or transients it means the amp can supply the power, instead of falling on its face. I would say it likely sounds very good, i am very impressed with the feature set on this. Most amps with this many channels have very low power output. The SQ folks will love this one.. running active with a DSP, this is a one hit wonder for running a 3 way front stage and one or two 12-15" subwoofer(s). Pair this with a 8 channel DSP (cant find a 7 channel) and you will have a killer system.

Great looking amps coming out from Down4Sound. I wish they had been around when I built my most recent system. The pricing for them is great but I wonder how long they can keep it up. Many times new brands are priced for low/no profit to get market share and many don’t make it past that stage. Skar walks the pricing fine line with their sk series korean amps while DC has gone upmarket with their korean amps. It will be interesting to see where Down4Sound is with their amps in a year.
