I was 16 in 1990 and the big bass guy was in his late twenties whose dad owned a pawnshop. he had a audio section in the back and was into pyramid, Kenwood and alpine. I didn't know much about car audio, 1st I knew I didn't have the money to have what he did, nor did I want hearing aids at his age either.

i personally like the - + + - lay out if you touch 2 positives together nothing happens if it was + - + - with big fat 1/0 or 2/0 wire with inputs then you increase the chance of touching wires.

Class D amps have come an insanely long way. A long time ago when they were first invented they had extremely limited bandwidth because the PWM architecture couldn’t switch fast enough & cleanly enough to encode high frequencies, and thus could only be used for subwoofers. Then full range class D chips came along, then eventually crazy sht like this lol. I think we’re reaching a plateau though. Semiconductors are pretty much at their limit for power density and surface mount components have PCBs packed as tightly as possible. So this is an apex example of car amps

Isn't there any way to bypass all the internal crossovers? And what slopes and types are used? I can't find this information here or on their website. There's supposed to be a link to the manual on the product page, but there's no link in the text.

Channels one through four do you have an on-off switch for the crossovers. If they don't specify the slope and you can typically expect 12 DB per octave. Channel 5 is not a full range channel so it's crossover can't technically be turned off. It seems to be limited to 250 hz, though.

I really wish all car subwoofer amplifiers offered the option of bypassing their crossovers. This is the only reason why I tend to prefer the Brazilian amps. It's really a shame, because I'd love to have this amplifier otherwise. It's quite a unique beast of an amp.

On a class D amp like this you can divide the power by 10 to get a rough estimate of the amp draw. Like a total of 3,000 watts might draw around 300 amps.

Hi BigD, do you know of any new age amps with frequency adjustable bass boost? One of my old favorite amps was the Infinity Kappa 202a, it had a variable frequency bass boost. It would let you adjust the frequency (20 to 80Hz) boosted by up to 8db. It let me boost the low end in my car and sounded great, I'd like to find a decent amp (1k-2kW) with a similar feature. So yeah are you aware of any?

With music loaded to lowest ohm on all channels it will pull over 450A and with the Dyno and test tunes over 550A. It totally depends on how low you load the sub channel and what music you listen to. Some people might get by with 200A fuse if using 4 ohms on sub and main channels.

I'm too old to be geeking out on your channel, but I do.... Big D, how much would you charge to release your years of test data? I'm doing a rather unconventional build, and I need the highest efficiency possible for a >1000w sub amp. I'm building a Radio Flyer Wagon into a rolling auto-parts swap meet wagon. This would be v3.0, I've built two in the past, the last one has approx 450 watts, 12" sub, 4 speakers and is motor driven. Love to share pics of it if you can help.

Any class D amplifier around 4 ohms is going to be very high efficiency. Being a few percent higher or lower in the amplifier efficiency really doesn't have much of an effect. The big factor on efficiency is going to be the subwoofer enclosure. For instance a ported enclosure might use 1/3 to 1/2 of the power of a sealed enclosure. Like the amplifier, the subwoofer is also not a big factor in efficiency, but it can help a little. Subs that have low power handling tend to have softer suspensions which gives them a little more efficiency compared to the bigger and heavy duty subs. Also, the lower the frequency it plays, the more power it needs. So limiting how low it plays can also boost efficiency. Hope that helps

I've seen his efficiency measurements vary dramatically, some amps are very miserly at input amperage vs output watts, some have horrible efficiency measurements, which would directly battery playing time.

​@@jimweber8602 as Jason said, Class D, they work - in layman's terms - by converting only the power required to drive the speakers at that particular time as opposed to class A/B which require the full voltage to be present across the output drivers (transistors) all the time, meaning more energy wasted, more heat and larger heatsinks. Williston has tested many small, yet powerful Class D amps on the channel. All the data is available on his channel, if only there was a way to look for it...

Marketing probably. A person might expect the better name brand to have better components for a longer lifespan but that is not always the case. There are a lot of good videos out there with people listening to similar amps, a high quality brand vs. average brand. One in particular is a Barevids where he compares a JBL Crown 6000 vs. a Taramps and they sound the same although the JBL is much more costly. You gotta do what you think is right for your budget and desired setup. Personally, if I was looking at spending $900 on an amp it would not be the hertz mile you posted. @@HyPex808-2

There's also a lot of other factors involved in an amplifier other than output power. Sound quality is one for sure, but there's also construction quality, reliability, all the protective features as well as other specifications such as having a lower noise floor, higher dynamic range, flatter frequency response and lower distortion levels.
