He may be 86 years old, but he's still got that same mischievous grin and youthful glint in his eye. Honestly, it's quite hard to tell just where the Fourth Doctor ends and Tom Baker begins. Tom Baker is Doctor Who.

I met Tom Baker in the late seventies and he was the perfect gentleman. He was signing books while wearing the Who costume in the height of the Australian summer. He was sweating profusely in the heat while wearing heavy wool, but he soldiered on and was kind and patient with the fans. I'll never forget that day and his characterization will always be the definitive WHO for me.

Still kills me that Jon Pertwee in the late 80's used to come to a convention near my relatives, often in full costume. Unfortunately, I was a little kid who had no idea what Doctor Who was in America, or what a convention was. I would have loved to have met him, he edges out Baker only slightly for my fave classic.

This is just “my take” of Tom Baker, whom I don’t know: Tom’s a master of revealing just enough of himself to never be pinned down. One feels they know him, without anyone (but perhaps those closest to him) really knowing him. A social escape artist (at least as a public figure) to the hilt. Very healthy boundaries. He found a way to keep his private life private, and for everyone to love him, and love his good natured charm and winking mysteriousness. As a fan, I say good for him!

So the only Cyberman Story that wasn't made was Genesis Of The Cyberman Series 19 as far as I know.

Yes I know that but season 19 some stories were written for Tom Baker then changed to Peter Davison depending where they were in the scripting process. Anyway my point was this is as far as I know the only unmade cyberman script from the classic era

I adore the way Tom ends this interview. After Nick says "Let's get back to the TARDIS", Tom's response is just so magical. "Yes...yes, let's do that. Goodbye."

Can easily believe he does come down for dinner in his costume, completely dead pan, and his wife does roll her eyes and let it pass without comment. He's such a giggle. His narration on Little Britain puts the edge on it's cutting edge.

I love love love Tom Baker. 40 years ago, when I was studying with a Tibetan Monk, we were told to meditate on Chenrezig. I asked my teacher what image to use. He said, anyone you want. So I chose the Dr. Who character, as played by Tom Baker. Eventually, Chenrezig, in the guise of Baker/Who would come to me in my dreams, and present deep esoteric instruction to me. Hope Tom reads this! Thank you, sir!

What I wouldn't give to meet Tom Baker. I've remember being a little boy in the 80s and my dad watching doctor who. I'm now 36 years old and have been a fan of Doctor Who my entire life. I've been all over America and the world, I've been in the Army, been to war in Iraq and lived, I've been able to be there for the birth of my Son and STILL being able to meet Tom Baker would be the GREATEST moment of my life.

I really don't mean to sound morbid, but I feel so worried seeing how old poor Tom is now. I'm sure he's still got plenty of years left, but I can't help but worry. I'm glad he got a cameo in The Day Of The Doctor, and for his work on Scratchman, and of-course, all he's done for Big-Finish. But, Seriously; The day Tom Baker passes, I think every Whovian will collectively miss a beat.

I reckon Tom Baker's passing will be treated like those of Bruce Forsyth and Cilla Black. There will be tons of tribute shows on the TV, with talking heads from people who knew him. Maybe even a repeat on BBC2 of a classic Doctor Who Tom Baker serial. Hopefully he's in this world for a lot longer yet though.

@@CineScarborough I hope he gets a much better response than that, I'm sure someone at the BT Tower in London will oblige and though talking heads is a standard interview model I think there should be something different for him, hopefully he will transform into his younger self, sit up abruptly and offer those near him a jelly baby whilst quipping "Oh no, not me - ' I AM the Doctor' (cue his deep chuckle)
