It's time to stop wasting resources on needlessly complicated base designs. Let's focus on a starter base for everyone from the solo to the group. The only reason solo bases and starter bases are usually at least a 2x1 is a supposed lack of space!

Having multiple 1x1 bases fitted out with specific things would be greatly beneficial. One 1x1 can be used for your farming, while another can be full of kits if you placed the 1x1 by a heavily populated monument, making it a perfect spawn point, and grub point as well. I find that having your 1x1 close to safe zones is key for early wipe needs is greatly beneficial after going nomad for the first several hours of server play, allowing the beach respawners/nakeds go HAM for any BPs after wipe.

That's how I always play. Multiple small bases within reasonable range of each other. Spread my loot around between them to limit liabilities and plenty of external bags near each for quick respawn. Single triangle foundation TC rooms tucked into cracks in the sides of hills mountains, too, for storing farm.

I do exactly this, but instead of the large box you place parallel to the half wall by the door, I put a grill and 3 small boxes. Great storage and rapid cooking. Besides, life ain't worth living if ya can't grill.

I'm pretty new to rust, and I really dig this design. A lot of space for the size without feeling too cramped. I've seen so many base designs that feel like a rat nest. I don't know how people live like that lol. Stresses me out just to watch people climbing over 10 different things and doing insane parkour just to get to their boxes. Definitely gonna keep a bag down on the triangle 99% of the time. I'm glad I saw that mentioned in the comments. I probably wouldn't have even noticed the lack of bag in the tutorial until I was respawning on the beach lol. I don't trust myself to only have outside bags

2 things could improve this: 1. By putting small boxes under T2 you can gain some more space and perhaps swap a large box for a sleeping bag. I think the sleeping bag could be placed in the 2nd placed box, and use the 3rd placed box to jump up possibly? 2. 2 Shotgun traps on roof facing in both directions, one towards door and one towards the back wall in case someone goes into the back wall, which they probably will. It’ll just make raiding this 1.5x1.5x1.5 base even more annoying. Dunno if this would even work but it could possibly make things better!

Tip: if you are quick enough, hard side stone gives more leeway for placement, so it's easier to place and if your fast enough, you can rotate it back. Also with the campfire, you can put down a water purifier and place a water catcher on the roof, the water purifier takes up no space but it holds 2,000-2,500 ml of water.

I typically have multiple 1x2 bases near my favorite monuments to quickly move around the map. I am definitely switching to using this base instead from now on. I agree that having a bag inside would be nice, but it is not the end of the world and make it look even more noob if your bag is on the roof or next to it on a foundation.

Definitely seems great for a staging depot to convert your hard earned metal ore to frags while you keep farming before moving the stash under cover of night.

This sounds like a great base for me, pretty much ideal. Small footprint, not all that setup of a base with a gap, and still plenty enough storage until I get raided. Because we all know I'm going to get raided and not have anything, and never get enough stuff to warrant a bigger base. So why bother with anything bigger than a 1*1.

I suggest you build in a heavily wooded area with a lot of foliage. Don't cut down any of the trees and litter the ground with spikes and bear traps. Or build a small one story in a crack and surround it with walls, it'll give the illusion of a baseless compound.

if you have a bigger base with externals it makes raids way more difficult. In the last two attempts to raid my current base this wipe, raiders got up to my bunker and gave up. I don’t blame them since you cannot tell it’s a bunker base from the outside. If you have externals, even if they raid you, you get to keep your base and workbench which means you can bounce back very quickly and continue your wipe instead of starting fresh on another server.

Only issue is the sleeping bag. I do something similar but mix up which side I put half walls on bottom and top, place tc against full wall, place workbench nestled up to tc, 2 large boxes, small box and BBQ finish out the bottom, then triangle wall pointy side aiming at tc and workbench (leave it wood to chop out when you move up to tier 2). Then bed at the wide part of that triangle as far to the back of the base as possible, second triangle sticking out above tc and workbench wall with 2 large boxes.

@@EthanRayburn69 I see where you are coming from, with the half walls being as expensive as a full wall, but the foundations are more and cause more upkeep (id test it but im not at my comp). So, no a 1x1 is not the same price as a 2x2. Plus when you honeycomb that is alot more ground to cover. Im not saying I would live out of a 1x1 as presented (i'd slap a bunker on the front, maybe a tiny second floor) but its a good way to save space and live in a tiny footprint. Or even setup as a forward base near scrap rich areas like launch site, then have a main somewhere else.

Working on a slightly upgraded version of this. The lower floor abuses bbqs and small boxes, currently offering 18 rows of storage, a small generator, and 3 small batteries. I'm also working with trying to add a "pancake layer" that both adds protection and a place for more (less valuable) storage. Also playing with an armored version that has stone triangle honeycomb around the 1x1 along with a stone pancake layer but it has an armored core. Working on ways to make raiding cost through the doors cost more to warrant the armor. Otherwise, sheetmetal is just as good. Thanks so much for the inspiration. I'll try to share if it ends up being worth it.

Bro... This is by far the most awesome piece of advise any beginner could get! No massive upkeep costs.. grind grind grind.. built it away from big bases and monuments crammed into a cliff... And youll be set for half the wipe. You can easily built multiple, once you start rolling. Brilliant for solos! Also: you can fit a sleeping bag and workbench in there! Place it in front of the workbench, open door and connect it to your doorway.

Could easily place a bag in front of the tier two you would just have to pick it up to use the research table or repair bench and replace it when done also you can fit a small box under the workbench as long as it’s a tier two or above and a lantern on the top of the tc or workbench for lighting without using the campfire now that nights are darker than a black hole inside a black hole that’s kind of handy since the fire burns through food you store in it as well as burning you if you aren’t carful in such a small base also make willjum proud and slap a bear rug on the roof to get 100 comfort under its head

Did a practice build on a creative server to practice it and explore it more myself and you can add the campfire in the bottom layer and even a water purifier on the campfire too for ocean dwellers such as myself. This also allows 2 small boxes up top not blocking access to using the repair bench/research bench/sleeping bag by putting a box as far right and back as possible where the campfire was put in the video and then of course the box under T2. Great design! For cheap lights as well a few candle skull spikes can be added. 👌🏼

I would honeycomb the base and put 1 sheet door and 1 armored one, I would make my roof sheet metal and add a half wall on top for a layer on top and I would call it the "Chode" small, tanky and comfortable.

If you sacrifice the repair/research bench you can add another triangle layer midway up the walls. You have to angle it so the tip goes inside the front-middle of the workbench.

I like the idea of adding a half floor to fit more things into the 1x1. However, the first thing I am doing once I have satchels and enough sulfur is to raid all those 1x1 bases in my neighbourhood. The profit is usually higher than raiding larger bases that are expensive to raid. Most importantly, the loot is more meaningful most of the time. In those early raids it's a lot more likely to find crucial building components. In those large end game raids you have everything already. And when the base has no obvious mistakes (wrong materials used, weak side walls pointing outside), chances it's a profitable raid (20 satchels) are actually going up. And if someone has used wooden walls or weak side pointing outside, that's a perfect early eco raid. That said, I am not convinced of "the power of being stealthy" too much. But when it's a decaying metal 2x1 I will leave it alone and wait for it to decay down to at least 50%.

looks great for the stealth factor but beyond that i have some reservations. it costs 75 stone less than building a 2x1 which allows for much more space, hence a sleeping bag and an additional door. a stone 2x2 is not the same raidcost as this to experienced raiders. your base obviously is 126 explo ammo to raid ( and gain all loot ) which is much cheaper and less noisy than the 4 rockets for a 2x2. also the conditional corners around the low walls will instantly give away that this is infact not a basic airlock 1x1. so to veterans this will be a more attractive target than a 2x1. while it looks nice i really don't see any advantage of this over a classic 2x1 as starter. which also gives you far superior options to extend. furnaces can't be emptied by doorcampers getting in. aaand altough i mentioned that already.... there's room for a sleeping bag inside. i enjoyed the well made video but i think the design itself doesn't really hold up to what you're making it out to be.

While I agree with some of your points, first standard raid cost is measured in rockets, which is equivalent from a 1x1 to a 2x2 to even many circle bases.. I honestly forgot most people rely on in base bags, I always place outside for starters as what is spawning inside gonna do if you're getting rocket raided. Hide this next to a clitt or in a dipp it'll pass by without most noticing And yes the half walls look diff than foundations but the fact that most people don't register that diff gives you the safety Yes furnaces being exposed is less than ideal, but it's a space over form. You at most risk 1 furnace to a door camper due to airlock mechanic

@@Reksmore you said it will take experienced raiders the same amount of rockets. while it's not a false statement, it's misleading as experienced raiders will get your tc for 66% of the sulfur it takes to raid a 2x1. smart raiders will spend 2 rockets and 14 explo ammo on your base since the usual benefit of rockets splash adds no benefit. having a bag inside allows to you spawn inside to either quickly replace a door or maybe db the surprised raider, etc. yes, outside bags are important. inside bags are far more important tho. i agree not everybody will spot that it's not a regular foundation because of conditionals, but even if not for that, your ceiling is at least 1,5 levels above ground level. if stealth is the goal i'ld actually prefer a 2x1 over the taller 1x1, in most cases. assuming there's a doorcamper you werent aware of and you get killed the moment you want to leave your base ( dying with your inner door closed and the outer one open ) all furnaces will be accesible. any time you leave your base you either empty your furnaces and not let them run while roaming or risk loosing everything inside of them.

​@@Milo-il9qc Right, normally when I raid 2x1s or even 2x2s, I calculate out tc room and only blow that back wall typically ( I Raid with c4 ) Or I'd silenced explo door raid. It's not invulnerable, but the typical raid concern is the zerg that rotates clearing bases. They utilize rockets. In my personal exp, smaller bases are always less likely to be targeted, especially with a key lock. I agree benefits can exist for inside bags, but argue that on a 2x1 or 1x1 they are minimal at best. Id rather have a bag with a stash and sword near by for a door camper... than spawn inside again with him camping me. peak with your inner door guarding you before going outside? I understand your points, and agree, but these are issues that are not unique to a 1x1 and that the pros of hiding in a smaller base out weight the risks I respect your opinions and don't think you're necessarily wrong but also don't think you're necessarily right

@@Reksmore how do you calculate where tc is on a 2x2? unless there's stone frames showing through you can only take a 50/50 chance by blowing 1 wall. they utilize rockets, yes. but it would have to be a really dumb zerg to roam raid with rockets only and not some explo ammo aswell... i am not arguing against outside bags. but there is no argument to counter the fact that having both inside bags and outside bags is superior to only having outside bags. the angle your airlock peak shows is very limited and pretty much only helps against doorcampers standing right in front of your door. the furnace and 2 door issue actually are unique to your 1x1 tho, comparing it to the common 2x1 and 2x2 starters. i didn't post this to put you down or "be right". i respect the well made video, idea and the work put it on your part.

I like doing a tall 1x1 inside a fake "decayed" base for tricking folks into thinking it isn't active. However, tucking away a super tiny 1x1 somewhere out of view is exceptionally strong at a passive raid deterrence. Location is crucial for theses types of bases, and I'd recommend having multiple. They're so cheap to sprinkle around and if one gets raided it's no big deal.

For me a 1x1 has to be hidden in a dense forest of the normal travel routes. I’ve lasted whole monthly wipes just out of a 1x1. Making sure I recycle what I don’t need, use all the sulphur for that day and never store boom. Kits are fine as long as I only have 2-3 to fall back on.

Nice use of space. I would add that an experienced player can easily determine the use of a subfloor using a hammer to check stability. That said, misdirection in RUST is everything and they might just ignore you in this mini chonk.

Even IF they noticed something was up, the raid cost would still be the same as a 1x2 or 2x2 with no honeycomb. Most players do not even bother getting close enough to a 1x1 to see the issue with the foundations though. This base just screams "poor" and not worth 4 rockets or 2 & the expo for the doors.

Im using 2x1 plus a triangle with the halfwalls in a hidden location as a starter base and end game base, no one seems to find/care about them, in it i can fit all 3 workbenches, tc, sleeping bag, research table, repair bench, campfire, 3 furnaces 6 large boxes and 3 small boxes.. Later on i sometimes add another triangle to add 3 more furnaces:))

I have one thing i might change, maybe in the 1x1 section replace the full walls with half walls then you could add another triangle shelf onto the top for more potential storage. I did not actually try this so I am no sure that there would be enough room?

If you're like me and really want a sleeping bag inside, Just put half walls on top of walls instead on floor. Put TC(left)+Workbench(right) side by side on the wall parallel to your double door FIRST. Use box to jump on TC then go to the top of workbench, put Triangle floor on top of your head and place 2 large boxes there. Go back down, put sleeping bag against right wall (next to TC) as far as possible and firecamp in lower left corner(opposite of workbench). The space between Workbench and your Firecamp can be used to place both repair bench and research table. Proceed with your triangle floor for 3 furnaces as shown. It feels a lot cozier this way, better walking room and you only lose like half a large box of storage, which is worth it imo.

Making the outer triangle out of wood will make your base even less enticing to raiders, and doesn't decrease the raid cost after you've replaced the inner door with an armored one, the inner shelf should also be wood for reduced upkeep

Been making this for 2 years. Campfire in the center of the 3 boxes tho and one small box and a small box where you placed your campfire. You can add on by picking out the left wall and placing drop boxes for a spawn in bunker. Never been fully raided once they see it's a spawn in bunker. Ez solo base with enough loot, even for a duo.
