BIGGER THROTTLE BODY GRAND CARAVAN | 3.8L Throttle Body Installed on 3.3L Engine | 4th Gen Power

Installing a bigger throttle body on my 07 Grand Caravan for more horsepower! Got this bigger throttle body from the bigger and better 3.8L version of the van. The bigger throttle body will allow my 3.3L to breathe in more air creating more power. Never would have thought this would make a difference but boy it makes a huge difference in power and somehow it makes the shifting on the van much smoother now. Would highly recommend this mod that greatly improves drivability/fun and mine was only $19 from the junkyard.

I put the 3.8 TB on my 3.3 and there was a big difference in power. Didn't noticed I reached 100mph so quickly until I looked (I was on my own Interstate on private property of course) 😂

Same mod I did when I had the Civic D16 TB on a D15 . But it just wasn't enough, also upgraded the intake manifold from a D16y8 and it really screamed on the top end.😲 But with all that money I spent upgrading it, I could've bought a complete D16Y8 swap . It's good to budget the cost of upgrades if you're keeping the car for the long run 🙄

Just one tip. Take off the TPS and don’t wet it. Take off the idle control valve and clean it out. It will be filthy. Use wd40 and a toothbrush and toothpicks. Good time to clean the passages for the icv. Also, of you want your tb to be spotless, use wd40 /or injector cleaner/seafoam and/or gasoline. It will be like new

Good tips! But I was too lazy to take off the tps or iac. I did spray some throttle body cleaner into the iac and it got a little gunk out. I'll definitely try using some gasoline or seafoam to make it look new.

@@TechiePocket1 it won’t transform the exterior really, but it will definitely clean the door spotless. You CAN spray the exterior with acid to brighten the alloy up but don’t leave it on for too long and then rinse and wash and dry really well so you don’t get that white alloy rust powder

It is pretty much just a bored out 3.3 TB. The 3.8 is just a bored out 3.3 that's why it doesn't handle much power in stock form. But still super reliable being pushrod engines

Yeah that's true. But adding the 3.8 TB to my 3.3 increased the power significantly. It's a really big difference at any RPM range and the shifts are alot smoother now too.

@@goclunker I just put a 3.8 TB on my 3.3, got it from the junkyard, cleaned it and put on a new gasket. I noticed a difference in power, especially on the highway.

I've also read that you can cut open the box for the air going into the tb and this will help also

Big difference! Throttle response is about the same but its got a noticable improvement in power

@@hylander89 get new map sensor, new PCV valve, clean your throttle body carefully with a cleaner spray designed for that and buy a cleaner injector atomic by purple brand goes to gas tank, all will set you under a hundred bucks, not sure what exactly fixed my gas mileage, but it did. All except PCV is easy to do. Then you can disconnect the batter overnight, then connect, drive 100kms and it should get better gas mileage. And also you may clean up check your EGR valve. Cheap too.

Great video however I wouldn't have used water on that thing. It'll introduce rust. Luckily no water or anything is running though it but still though...

Good point but I'm not afraid of it rusting. The water would dry out quickly once the engine is running

I did this exact modification to my 2002 Dodge Caravan. The difference was less travel on the gas pedal and better acceleration. Also more power on the highway. This was a great improvent from the 3.3L throttlebody. I also install a cone filter with chrome cold air intake. Added Lucas fuel injector cleaner and a full tank of gas. Minivan has come back to life. More responsive than before. It was super easy to install. Took me like 7 minutes. I got the 3.8l throttlebody from a 2004 town and country van with 65,000 miles. I then super cleaned throttlebody. Removed tps sensor and iac valve. Worked beautifully. As for gas mileage i have not calculated it. Im sure its using more gas but not much. My van has only 110,000 miles and is in great condition. 3.8l throttlebody costed me only $25.00 & gasket was $4.00. Cheap & Easy upgrade.

Well with my heavy foot it got worse lol. But I would imagine it would stay around the same or a little less.

It revved way faster so yes it was quicker in acceleration. But I didn't dyno it so I can't say how much it improved hp and tq.

01-07 should work. Mine was off an 05 that I put into my 07

It's the same generation grand caravan just grab the throttle body from the 3.8l engine.

A dyno test would be the ultimate test! But as we all know a bigger throttle body increases airflow which must show some increase in power. It can also be felt although you can always make stuff up in your head
