you're right that "gabi" is Tagalog for "night." but that word "gabi" also applies to the root crop called taro or "gabi," in tagalog or visayan, famous in the philippines as a vegetable to add in soups, but now, as a flavor for ice cream? "gabi" can be used in a lot of cooking, i.e. binignit. it's pronounced "gah-be." the woman should have caught what you were saying to her and immediately teach you the difference, but she's determined to give you the sweet ice cream sample. that's really nice that you came back and pay your hamburger bills. awesome guy!
