I had that experience with the multiple heavy guys turning up to check it out when I sold my first car when I was 20. The TITLE of the ad on ebay said NO TAX (back when tax was transferable). They said that they didn't know it had no tax, and wouldn't pay the full price, but also refused to leave empty handed as they'd travelled a long way. I was intimidated so I took the seriously reduced offer. They then took the whole VC5 and said they'd do it when they were home, and then immediately drove away with no tax or insurance

Foolishly I fell for the last one many years ago. I sold my Jaguar and the “buyer” sent me a cheque. Once the check had cleared I contacted them to say they could make arrangements to collect the car. The car went and the cheque was a forgery. I found out a week later when I went to withdraw the money the bank told me it was a fake. There was a police investigation that followed and I never seen my Jag again. I am very very cautious now and echo the sentiment if it’s too good to be true it usually is.

I knew someone who left their 7 seater for 2 months at an airport car park in London. Came back and car had been used as a shuttle whilst they were gone. 250 miles on it and returned with an empty fuel tank. They denied it point-blank despite marks on the cream leather and no fuel. When the folk landed the car park personnel couldn't find it. Presumably because it was out on the road being used. This happened only a few weeks ago. Watch out which car park you are using and don't leave it with a car park that you have to leave the keys with.

Thanks, I used to sell my cars privately, but not worth the hassle any more. Mind you WBAC are notorious, they give you a price, you turn up, and they knock £1000 off, because it has a stone chip. Sold a car on ebay once, the buyer, a dealer turned up with friend, complained about all sorts, I said it is as advertised,no price reduction, you bid on it, and won, that is the price, I insisted on cash, and they eventually paid up.

I bought a van from a dealer of cars of dubious history, in North Wales. A few months later I had a fine from the Tyne tunnel, but I had a full alibi for where my van was at the time. I went round to the Police, to try to sort the problem out, and the serial number on my car matches the number on my paperwork. The Police were not interested, saying that I had to get Swansea to sort it out. A fer months after that, I had another fine, from a pub car park in Gloucestershire, but I know that my van was blocked in the car park where I live, by a scaffolders vehicle, at the time. I sent the information to the car park people, trying to prove that the vehicle was in two places at the same time, as I thought that might be easier than proving that it was not where it should not have been. I also sent the information from both fines to Swansea, who were not interested the first time, and they sent me a letter to photocopy, and send as a reply to any more fines. Luckily I have not had any more fines, and those two were written off for me. I think that the Police should do something about this, as it is a crime, so they are the first point of contact. Swansea said that it is a Police matter, and the Police say that it is a matter for Swansea.

I did a property ownership check once too, doesn't cost much at all and bit more assurety when buying a decent car, can be done easily on land registry. Another thing is to not let people copy your logbook reference numbers and private information when VIEWING a car your selling. This prevents them from ordering another logbook in their name (for cloning purposes) thus creating a nightmare scenario about using your car and non insurance issues.

hi great vid , just a heads up to people regards another scam, now on the dvlc website a dealer/seller of a car fills in the details of transfer without the buyer having to check details are correct!!,espesially the "date of sale" which is easily backdated!! this happened to me with a dodgy dealer who clearly didn't have a dealership car lot to store cars for sale and just had them parked illegally here there and everywhere. when I purchased the new car they backdated the sale date which then becomes the "vehicle acquired" date on your new v5c through the mail, of course I then started getting the tickets issued to that car now registered in my name with the DVLA(parking company scum can legally get your info), be aware when the seller is filling in the online DVLA form its really easy now and quick too, your at their mercy ,its a really bad loophole with DVLA online process

The biggest scam is the government themselves, they're not governing the used car market enough, you jump into the wild the minute you think to buy a new used car, every car dealer doing their own terms, some of them take all your rights of returning the car as soon as you drive 10/20 miles away from the dealer location, so in case anything goes wrong then its your fault! ... others do not refund the reserve deposit if you change your mind (before collection) and so many things you have to keep an eye on. Also be careful on the mileage written on the contract, usually they write a lower mileage than what's on the car by 100/200miles difference, this way as soon as you take the car out of the dealer showroom, guess what? you have driven over 200miles 😂
@DefinitelyNotAGuru Жыл бұрын
👌 you e actually got a fair number of rights when buying from any kind of trader (which is why many of them pretend to be private sellers when getting rid of and old bone). There are still some good guys out there like Mark at MSJ in Hull who’s about as straight up and down as they come.

People also be careful when involved with established dealers. After telling BMW Doncaster that if I was unable to obtain a suitable price for my existing BMW I 4 M50 that I would sell the car my new car on. The best they could offer me for my current one was £55,000 for a car 6 months old with less than a 1000 miles. a car that would retail for at least £70,000. They cancelled my order without informing me ,added around £1,800 pounds and sold it within 48 hours. They implied that BMW did not want them to sell cars to someone to sell, this was not true according to BMW. Within a week the car appeared to be for sale with the dealer who had told me he would give £500 more than I paid for the car rather than cancelling the order I had placed in January. When I contacted him he told me it could not be mine because it had a tow bar,this was a lie because the pictures did not show this and the car had to have a comfort pack fitted which it does not. He has since taken the car off Autotrader, despite having others advertised there and it just shows on his own website. I am certain the car I had ordered has finished up with this dealer who obtains new cars and often sells them over list price. If BMW HQ not come back to me following the customer survey I will contact Which magazine to report what has happened. I only told them that I would sell the car on because I prefer to be honest and I don't think think that is grounds for cancelling my order.
