I'm an older lady and a widow, thus ladies of my generation are not exactly cut out to maintain/service their own cars. I bought a second hand vehicle from my local Hyundai dealership and it had been serviced/MOT'd with Ford then Hyundai since manufacture. I decided to take out a monthly payment plan with Hyundai to cover a Full Service/MOT at a cost to me of £14.99 a month. I have now had the car three years and with the way things are progressing re electric cars, I've chosen to stay put with my 8 year old, very low mileage run around that is diesel. The car has never missed a service and I'm intending to run it into the ground or run it until such times as the WEF/our bloody govt. physically remove all non electric vehicles from the road. Just an aside- Last year, prior to the MOT, I had the garage value my car as I was thinking about having a change. I was given a price, declined it and left it at that. Three times in 2021 the garage called me asking if I wanted to change my car and each time they quoted me a higher and higher price. After this years MOT I asked the dealership to value my car once more. Yes, you've guessed right - it's value has once more gone up. Do bear in mind that this is an eight year old Ford Kugar TDCi Titanium (or something like that - it has all the 'toys' and is top of the range apparently). Between each MOT, I appear to clock up roughly 1000 miles, so the vehicle is really low mileage that must have had an old fart like me as its previous owner. To date, there's a tiny 14,000 miles on the clock. So, if you have been given a price for your car and thought it too low, return to your garage and you just might be surprised at their estimate/quote. If you're not in a position to change your car, do consider keeping it well maintained as the second hand car prices really are soaring and it's not everyone that can afford an electric one simply to comply with the governments insane, clearly never thought out, foolish mantra.

I only buy cars with full main dealer history, and I usually check second to last entry.. I tend not to buy from dealers pretending to be private as that’s where all the scams are.. I won’t look at a car unless it’s at the address on the reg doc, and I’m with the registered owner who has owned it for a while. This avoids 90% of scams. When selling I’m shocked how many people never even want to see the service book, never mind receipts.

Thank you for flagging this up - appreciate consumers need to ‘be aware’ especially when it comes to used vehicles, but generally consumers will see a service history as being a comfort that the vehicle has been well cared for and pay a premium for it. eBay needs to ban these stamp sellers

When a Service Advisor at a Ford dealership I had a guy ranting at me in reception about a major fault with his car despite our regularly servicing it; he shoved the book under my nose to show it full of our stamps. Trouble was I'd never seen him before and when I checked our records we had no invoice counter copies. I then went to talk to our techs and it was common knowledge that Ginger, one of our mechanics, looked after it for him and had told him to shout loud to get Ford to pay for a new gearbox!

@barry51112 жыл бұрын
I have been driving for fifty six years and not once has a dealer valuing my part exchange asked to actually look at my service history. I've only managed to get book price plus a little more for whinging and threatening to walk away. I have been given a false history by a garage selling a Fiat Punto after he claimed he couldn't find it and the stamps when I eventually got it were the same as on one of those tv consumer programmes. You can only blame the car traders for offering as little as possible for your car without putting it up on the ramps then sticking a big mark up on it or getting rid to the auctions.

Like everything else ... if you can come back to the seller (particularly licensed dealer) with evidence of fraud, you can also use threat of reporting to police or state consumer protection agencies and get a really good price (and drop the dime on him afterwards anyway!). Many carmakers report require authorized dealer service records with your Chassis No., mileage, dates, work performed, etc., to be uploaded to them electronically, and then can supply records when you go to sell, something like a "factory CarFax". More reliable indicator of just mileage is the MOT/Technical. As someone else said here, invoices are the only real proof, particularly for major repairs or component replacements. If there is no receipt, it didn't happen ...

I used to inspect and collect end of lease vehicles and many were Motability leases. Firstly I don’t think Motabilty sell to the public so they’ll be bought up by dealerships and small traders. As they are registered to the original user you won’t know they were Motability unless the trader tells you and whatever price they pay won’t make any difference to what they retail it at. Most will be auto’s, for obvious reasons. Yes, they will have a full service history but many end up with lots of minor dents and scrapes and badly kerbed wheels. Also many are filthy inside and seemingly never cleaned since originally supplied, often with thick coatings of pet hair everywhere! Users are offered a few hundred pound by Motability at the end of the lease if the vehicle is returned in good condition but I guess some are unable to care for them well or find the financial inducement insufficient. I would typically deliver these ropey examples to regional refurbishment centres would would produce a report with costings for Motability who would decided to fix some, all, or none of the issues before putting them up for auction. Quite often I would deliver a car to a centre and then collect the same car, in the same state, several weeks later and deliver it to a trader who presumably got it at a price where, after they sorted out the issues, could still find a good profit in it. So if looking to buy a late used car where you are informed it is ex-Motability, subject it to as rigorous an inspection as you should for any used vehicle.

@DefinitelyNotAGuru thank you for your response. It was an individual, from auto dealer, auto dealer claims they can't get in touch with the person. Probably used a fake number/burner phone. Tried selling the car on Facebook and auto trader but they say No once I tell them no service history

What about cars on Auto Trader from a dealership?

Absolutely no different Helena, even from main dealers. As the saying goes, inspect, don’t expect 👍

@@DefinitelyNotAGuru thank you so much I’m a single mum and just bought a car from a dealership drove it away and 150 miles later said low oil so topped it up then the same thing happened a week later then a week later again so far the oil has needed topping up by 4 litres in 25 days (it’s not leaking so it’s being burned). Garage said over the phone they will take it back but not until next week as they have no storage for it until they have sold other cars. I’m worried because that will then be past the 30 days. I don’t believe they will take it back and are stalling on purpose. I don’t know whether to just take it back on Monday so that it’s back before the 30 days is up but then worried about leaving the car on their property if they don’t pay the money whilst I’m there on-site i won’t have any money or a car if i leave it with them. I’m so upset and don’t know what to do.

How can i find where a service was done. Car i got came with no car manual or service book.

If it’s relatively new you could try and see if your main dealer can trace anything.

It’s still recorded in the infotainment system, which can be got at by an eBay seller as I showed in the video if you watched enough of it.

I never buy from eBay or God-forbid social media sites. Only from reputable dealers. And I do my own vcheck. Do your due diligence. Lots of scumbags, both private and dealers, out there.

Been around for years...Arfur Daley could give you an exact 'as requested mileage'. y'know that capri he 'gave' to Tel......it was way over a hundred thousand miles and he gave it to Tel with 29,000 on the clock and Tel....believed it. What a Mug.🤣.

That’s dicked up. Maybe you should try a car buying service as alternative to the car flipping that didn’t work out ?
