Just wish they allowed you to be evil like in all the others. Really mad about that. There is no bad options for how to solve quests. You start out, you are forced to protect the minutemen, you can't side with the raiders like you would have been able to do in the past games...that's really my main critique. The story feels linear and not as free. If I want to be a raider and savagely attack the wasteland....let me do that. I don't want to be a hero, I want to be the opposite. Can't even kill every character like before...there are guys that are unkillable now. Other than that the game is amazing and I'm loving my first play through. But I'm not sure how many replays I'll get like I did with Vegas.

I don't get why people don't like fallout, I know that they removed karma, and the rpg elements, but it is still an astonishing game. Fallout 4 was to introduce fallout to the masses, being the highest selling fallout to date, and you also can't get everything things will be removed and things will be added. I am okay with the settlement building, weapon customization, voice acting, creatures, plus Bethesda can't add every element, most consoles won't be able to run it, and this is a huge step forward for fallout, now that Bethesda softworks has enough money from sales of fallout to make another fallout, possibly the next game can include every aspect of fallout. Fallout 4 introduced fallout to millions and that's why fallout 4 may have been the most beneficial fallout to every fallout player

Believe it or not, selling more than a previous title is really easy. Especially when so many years are between the releases. Even series that don't really improve. The reason is, the gaming industry is growing like crazy as more and more people are becoming interested in games. When Fallout 3 and all that came out, gaming was not actually main stream yet. It was getting there. But it has more than tripled in the amount of people that play now. So, sales aren't something to really look at. I believe Fallout 4 had a lot of good changes, but I can't really stand the shitty voice wheel, and bad writing. Bethesda has no talent in that department. New Vegas proved it. Hell, look at the writing and atmosphere/feeling of Enderal, compared to Skyrim. It makes it so obvious.

I liked Fallout 3/NV's graphics because it made the wasteland to me, really feel destroyed and lonely. The graphics and art style were grey and bleak to accomplish this, but the new games graphics are good as well.

The best thing about Fallout 4: They took a whole bunch of Mods from 3 and NV and put them in the base game. Weapon mods, weather, power armour customization, settlement building (I played in Skyrim atleast, not sure about NV) Even the key to throw grenades is the same!

I get more character with the characters in this game then I got with Fallout 3. The gun play is actually fun in this game and the vats are no longer as overpowered as they were before. I also get more involved with the characters in this game because I have a reason to care for them for more then a mission. I wouldn't put the original Fallouts with the rest of the series sense those games were top down RPGs. So the fandom is already split because of this fact. Also, a "real" Fallout fan? Your going for that argument? I can understand if this game completely changed up the formula, but it still follows the same formula and is part of the same series. So a fan of this is a "real" fan.

I'm not a fan of Fallout 4's atmospheric tone. Where Fallout 4 has colorful skies, pre-war structures ripe with electricity, and good loot in every conceivable crevice, its predecessor had blown-out, ancient structures from a Golden Age long passed, irradiated skies, and 10mm pistols as a lucky find. You'd find good items among those with the power to own them - not thrown about any random junkyard, and, if you really persevered, you'd come across a priceless relic worthy of the time and effort you spent finding it. In Fallout 3, first discovering the t-51b armor in a sealed, pristine vault was a standout event of the entire game. Now it's easy to stumble across a set of X-01 with no effort at all. In time, I really hope someone overhauls FO4 with a vision of the previous games in mind.

10mm pistols as a lucky find?, umm nope. But getting better guns was harder indeed, nontheless on FO4 all I seemed to find on survival mode were pipe pistols and tire irons up until lv 10-15 or so, and I NEVER find good weapons on junkyards, but only on raiders/gunners loot . Now I don't know if you've seen irradiated skies on fallout 4 (radiation storms and glowing sea), but with that filter I didn't enjoy looking at many things in FO3. You can find the t-45 withing the first hour of the game but can you use it for long? nope. I had to progress a LOT further down the game to actually use consistently my power armor. I really honestly think you're letting your nostalgia carry you away m8.

Best thing about FO4 IMO is how they made power armors feel like power armors. One of the biggest things that irked me in FO3 was how PAs were just a bulkier set of clothing; here it actually feels and functions like a suit of power armor.

Woluffy Not entirely. It has better maps and even places to kill enemies and get great weapons like the sniper rifle example. In Bethesda ruins. Although the NV has better weapons and damage formula. But the base game there's only the super mutants at black mountain (which I believe what it caused) that can respawn and get better weapons and survive longer than any other income.

On top of that, there is no repeated voices so every character in the game has an individual voice. There are more lines of dialogue than Fallout 3 and New Vegas combined. Dialogue sequences are shorter, more on point and follow a more realistic pattern, but there are more of them, and conversations are no longer based around juxtapositions of different topics and instead now unfold naturally. The cinematic structure of the conversations brings out a strong level of emotional depth. To suggest the dialogue has been neglected in this game is absurd.

I loved how Fallout 4 made a lot of improvements, though I miss a proper Survival mode ala NV. I also think the weight system might need some nerfing. When you can carry with you a limitless amount of Stimpacks, rad-x & ammo for your guns, combat becomes easy, and you become immortal outside of cheesy 1-shot scenarios. Although it could be a pain, I always found myself more immersed when I had to be strategic about the equipment I brought along, and the world could cause a real toll that wasn't simply solved by tapping the hotkey for your 185th stimpack xD

It's bad enough having to drop off everything from just one mission everytime. People complaining about "made for kids" obviously never played FFVII or any old school RPG, where literally everything you pick up stays with you the whole game and merchants have plenty of money to buy whatever you need to sale so you can get back to playing the fn game. the real problem with a voiced protagonist is that it limits the dialog options. They aren't as creative as in older games. Remember an int 1 character in NV? It also makes modding in quests harder.

DarthRambo A lot of the times it doesn't matter what you say. You'll get 1 or 2 reaction sentences from the NPC but then they will go on with the conversation regardless. Often you can't refuse a quest (if you keep saying no, they'll just go "Well if your change your mind, here's a quest marker, that you can't get rid off") And sometimes the game 'forces' you to pick a certain option, for example it's impossible to not tell Piper about Shaun, you'll loop back to the same 4 options until you tell her

for me the silent vs. non-silent protagonist depends on the game. for instance for Zelda games i DO NOT want Link to ever speak, but for Fallout 4 i really like my guy's personality. Link would have nothing of value to say in the story because as a character he's the type to do what's right and follow his hero path he's destined for. what could he possible add to the conversation? he's literally us, the gamers, following our story of us playing a game, being the hero to save the current world and timeline. but for Fallout dude it works well to have multiple personality options because his story is not tied to the game's lore and antagonist etc. rather it's tied to the world it doesn't exist anymore. he can be stupid, smart, humorous, evil - doesn't matter. it's not important to the story's lore so you can play him (or her) any way you want picking the dialogue options as you see fit. so yay on voice for certain games, nay on Link, EVER.

Even with the brightness up you can't see shit in Fallout 3. Npcs could snipe you with pistols, yet you could only shoot someone within 10 feet without vats. Fallout 4 wins hands down just for playability and ease of use. The only thing I like better in Fallout 3 is that many creatures are so much scarier and creepy looking, especially ghouls.

FO4 is awesome but I wish they included the few stuff that New Vegas did right, Ammo crafting, Ammo types. and a lot of choices on guns, in FO4 it's either junk pipe guns, WW2-ish guns or energy guns. And the conversations are terribad, you no longer need a brain to get through the convos, just keep pressing 4 or the down key to give the polite / sympathetic answer and it will get you through almost everything, speech checks are now only for exp and lore.

You know what would be cool, is if we could group together settlement builder structures that we've put together, and save them? So we can duplicate entire buildings or defenses? Have 'em save to your hard drive so you can just refer to them on other profiles... That would be pretty neat. WHAT THE FUCK WHERE'S MY 9mm AMMUNITION?! You expect me to use this shitty .38 trash?! What about a vanity system where you wear all your OP gear with all its perks and resistances underneath, and have its appearance overrided by whatever is in the vanity system on top of it? IE: Kellog's Outfit would override a Military Fatigue under your armor, and any armor above the gear system would override that armors' appearance, or you can just switch it to have the vanity system display your character naked or render parts of your outfit invisible...??? Whilst I'm not sure if it would be lore-friendly or canon, I would expect the M4 to be around too... wasn't the M4 put into service under a different name around the 50's or 60's? I'd feel boss as a mother fucker running around with quad rails and a tactical rail on top of a 5.56 M4. Especially with high damage like that? How sick would it be to make a weapon with stuff like a laser sight to increase hip fire accuracy, or a grip to control hip fire accuracy further? Or even an angled grip? Why not add an option to "color" your clothes, weapon, or even the sights a different color with paint laying around the wasteland? IE: A Pink bucket of paint would be used to color your weapon pink and give it a new skin, or a sight to give that sight a new color. Or maybe black to give your guy that "Special Ops" appearance. You would expect yourself to be able to make a .50 semi automatic rifle... or full auto if that's your thing... holy shit Bethesda. You left a ton of stuff out. Add please. Put it back in please.

+Dave Strider (Future) all valid points, but dont forget bethesduh isnt the powerhouse of creativity it was before ken left. the closest thing to the game you are looking for is called planet explorers, it lets you design weapons, armor, structures, and vehicles (land, sea, and air) and store them (by them i mean essentially the schematics.. though they are called .iso files and they have a built in 3d modeling tool they work with.. not to be confused with .iso files that are disc images) for later use. its also got a really nice complex system where materials totally matter.

if you're talking about the limit break, that's not really a critical hit, that's just an exclusive attack. what he means by a "critical meter" is the ability to choose when your normal attacks will have boosted damage

It's an attack that does extra damage but you have to charge it up. It doesn't matter if it's a 'normal' attack or an 'exclusive'' attack. That's just splitting hairs.

I get that both mechanics exist within final fantasy and I know it seems like splitting hairs, but there are enough differences to justify my point. when you get a limit break, you don't have the option to control when you use it. yeah, you can wait or use magic or something else, but you can't continue to use normal attacks until you use your limit break. what gameranx is talking about is the ability to accumulate a critical meter, then just use it whenever you like. and no, I wouldn't count exclusive attacks as criticals. criticals are randomly occurring multipliers to normal attacks. and also, limit breaks can GET criticals.

Brian Ruel Really, you find that less realistic? I've always found that more realistic. If you want to do extra damage, that's what 'heavy attacks' are for. You swing your sword a hundred times, sometimes the sword deflects off their armor, sometimes it slips in between their armor plates and cuts deep. That's a cricical hit. You wouldn't have control over that irl unless you were an extremely skilled swordsman. Keep in mind the other guy's moving around, actively blocking or attempting to block your attacks with a rate of success that's somewhat out of your control. Take boxing. You can't just decide when to land a 'critical hit' on your opponent. But sometimes, due to dumb luck, you land a solid hit when your oppenent is off balance, or they dropped their guard, or they were just positioning themselves perfectly to get wreked by that hit. They didn't mean to do that. You were meaning to do something like that, but you couldn't decide just when it was going to happen. It comes down to luck. So if fighting is 90% strength and skill, and 10% luck, then that 10% luck is where you'll see your critical hits. In videogames this is usually represented by a random percent chance that you'll get a crit. That seems realistic to me. Choosing just exactly when to get a crit does not seem realistic, any more so than 'charging up a limit break'. That's a fantasy thing.

Scout4y I suppose I could see that viewpoint. But the game itself is amazing. The combat feels so much more playable than ever before. I did enjoy the fact that we had a voiced protagonist in this game, but I think everyone is with me here when I say we need a voiced protagonist to be an OPTIONAL thing you can choose. (And even better if you can switch between the two mid-game)

Nah, everything surrounding the dialogue, from the wheel, to how your SPECIAL has no effect on dialogue at all, to how you can't influence the story in the slightest, to how you can't change your voice/accent. The voice acting is well done and I like it, but the sacrifices made to have that in weren't worth it and made the game lose much of it's RPG factor. I'm not getting the next Elder Scrolls/Fallout if they re-use this system. The Karma system in 3 wasn't very good, but at least it had one. Also, a lot of cool stuff from New Vegas was left out, why can I fully customize my own gun, power armor and grenades, but can't I craft my own bullets? The base building is really cool, but why can I only use it to help the minutemen? Why can't I build bases and become a raider? Recruit random settlers to join me and take over Boston as the #1 raider group. I'm not even going to start on lore inconsistencies. There's tons of other flaws, but I'm enjoying the game so far. It's somewhat what I expected from the forever incompetent Bethesda. Not regretting the 90 hours I spent playing so far, and it's gonna be a lot more. I really like the improved gunplay and exploring is as fun as ever. I also really like some of the partners in the game, I never used them in 3, but here they're quite fun, I don't like how they can't die though.

+OrangeStar222 Yeah this game really forces you to be the good guy. In New Vegas you could still complete the game while being a multitude of different personalities. Though New Vegas was made by Obsidian.

I's still a good game, and the core gameplay, aside from choises, meaningful dialogue and actual roleplaying, it's still the same in other aspects. Combat has been improved, exploring the world is still as fun as ever and base building is surprisingly a lot of fun. I like to compare Fallout 4 to The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Although the skeleton of that game still had some core Zelda elements, it stripped a lot of features the series is known for and included a lot of new systems that just didn't work. Its still a fun and playable game, but compared to earlier titles it kinda falls flat on it's face.

+OrangeStar222 good RPGs are getting rare now though. It's easier to make a simple dialogue wheel with similar choices rather than having a bunch of different outcomes. Also a lot of RPGs force you to be good as well like in Dragon Age Inquisition.

It is a systematic change. Just because we play it on PC does not make it common to have build settlements in the past. Most players play on consoles after all.. Get ur head out of ur arses folks. Also, now modders mostly have to focus on getting those amazing graphics instead of adding everything gameplay wise, which is awesome for us PC users.

i like to think the colors etc from previous games were because the world was still recovering and in fallout 4 it has healed a bit more to regain some of its natural look, idk just my way of making it lore based haha. Also it is SO hard to hit enemies that are right next to you and smallish like molerats, radroaches, mirelurk hatchlings, flying bugs (UGH hate those) etc. I like the crit meter because i can choose when to crit like save it for the boss in the dungeon you are in and if it is capable of mutations you hit it twice to make it mutate THEN crit it's awesome.I love the new perk system it is so much easier to understand and some ppl call that dumbing down but it is really just making it user friendly you wouldn't say new features on a cell is dumbing it down would you? I loved the crafting system in this and it makes me excited to see what they do in TES6 too because in my mind it will be amazing

never had a problem with the old shooting, love the new shooting. Contrary to popular belief just because guns shoot quickly and bullets move fast actual gun fights are neither of those things. People are all hiding trying not to, ya know, die so they tend to last quite a while unless you're being hyper aggressive for example when a swat team storms a building. If anything I'd say the combat is perfect for the setting of the game, the pace is magnificent and the only thing the games really missing is some proper gun physics, bullet drop and the like. And i never used to use Vats, it was so much more reliable to actually aim and shoot the gun I never understood why anyone ever did. I do use it now because the animations are a lot more varied and it's hard to say, take a ghouls leg off so you don't have to deal with 10 assholes charging you down all at once. This is incredibly frustrating, just like it was with skyrim when that was released, people just whining and bitching and complaining about shit that everyone who's actually a fan of the series wont even remember in 6 months. Game development is art of a bit of a grander scale, you don't scream like an infant when a painter does painting with a color you don't like you just don't go and see it. If you don't like the game and your complaint isn't valid (because anything other than "this system is MEANT to work this way but it's bugged and doesn't" isn't a valid complaint, you didn't have any creative input into the game, fuck off) then stop trying to ruin other peoples fun or put potential players off just because you're butthurt that they didn't just make a new map and quests for Fallout NV.

+Divaad95 last thing, if you do have a creative criticism of the game that's why bethesda has mod support. Don't like something? Change it yourself, but even if they didn't offer that you couldn't say shit because it isn't up to you, you didn't build the game and you didn't pay anything towards it's development, you didn't invest in it you just bought it at the end.
