On the other hand ... all these drains we built to dry out farmland or for houses or whatever, is one of the reasons groundwater levels are dropping. The water no longer sits and filters down. I inherited the family farm, and a pump brings up water from below and then my SEPTIC tank puts it back. With added nutrients!

My dude a blocked culvert flooded a bunch of houses in a place called Heathfield, East Sussex, UK, it was shocking how bad it got and ruined gardens and homes including a couple who had just moved in and a couple who had just fixed up their garden as the wife had terminal cancer and she wanted somewhere nice to rest at home. This work you're doing is potentially saving similar horrible results - good man!

Before the city trimmed the many trees along the banks, and old roots, he waded and removed huge fallen branches from culverts. Just one point which many of you may find weird in the USA - Here in the UK was are slowly re-introducing beavers into the wild with some great success. Beavers were wiped out in the UK up to about 150 years ago. The damage by not having them has been immense and where they have been introduced that have prevented flood damage to communities down stream of the damn they have built.

Sadly our 'powers that be' sneakily announced last week (3rd Sept 2022) that they're going to allow English farmers to use 'lethal force' on beavers if they 'threaten their crops or land' (which is like saying 'if you feel like it' in government speak). Only a month ago they announced they will be giving them full protection status from October. It's crazy! 😔

That was an insanely massive clog. Thanks for putting in all the hard work for the safety of the road and our entertainment! I'm glad I get to watch videos like this on KZbin. Where I live, it only rains a few days a year, and less than a combined 13 inches over the year. I love the rain, and videos like this let me see what can't happen here. On another note, I think KZbin dropped their bitrate quite a bit over the past year or 2. Any chance you could export as like 1440p or 4k? It'll make sure KZbin doesn't crush the bitrate on the flowing water. I understand if you don't want to. I've done video editing for quite a few years, and bumping up to 4k took quite a bit more render time

Just an FYI from someone who used to clean these sections for a living, don't throw large amounts of debris down the culvert. If the flow isn't strong it will just come to rest in the centre and make a future clean up crew's life a pain. Take them out and pile them back a few feet from the entrance so they don't fall back in and the crew will see it and clean it up.

About a 3 foot clog 😮 this one is going to be tough to beat. Would definitely be nice to come back once NH digs out that right side culvert.

NH has a blight. One culvert out of order. Not significant compared to surrounding states. Just the awesome work of Post 10. Who does not allow for one culvert to go unnoticed. Will be nice to see NH pay a little attention to this one. This will surely be a great day seeing this culvert get the attention it deserves. ♥️🇺🇸♥️ Most beautiful, the way it was constructed.

@@MonkeyJedi99 Yeah in the right habitat I think a ball like that could emerge in a couple of months or a season at the most. Especially if the surrounding fields get slurried. After all thats what willow bed water filtration relies on.

The DoT up there must've ignored this one for quite a while to have so much debris pile up that it essentially made the other culvert vanish; it had multiple tree logs in it, and I can't imagine those things drop into a river every day. That looks like months, if not years, of pile up, considering how rotten the logs were. The other culvert looked relatively unobstructed, so maybe the DoT thought that so long as at least one was relatively clear, the other one didn't matter.

You are my new favorite channel. Question for you - if/when you come across something such as this where you cannot clear it by hand, do you contact the local department of public works that does maintain these things so they can clear it? If/when you do, would you be allowed to film and post that content as well? I'd be fascinated to see a follow up on a situation such as this one. Have a blessed day - you do amazing work!!

Hey, aren't you worried that by pushing through so many logs that they won't just catch on something later and cause a clog or a build up downstream? If it's nearer a smaller road or a residential area then could that be more detrimental than say this one is? Love your videos, keep it up! From the UK *EDIT* OK you literally mentioned that for this one it'll be OK due to the bridges and not really any other culverts, but my question was realting to over videos and other culverts? Or is that just making sure there's always more for you to unclog? :P
@hunterra217
@hunterra217 2 жыл бұрын
well realistically culverts are always going to get clogged eventually, and pushing some logs through will probably not lead to another clog, because clogs like this take lots of material and time, and when you shove it through like this, it gets dispersed downstream over a large distance. Also, these larget culverts almost never lead into long narrow ditches, these are build for larger reliefs and bypasses, where a few big logs won't hurt a thing. Anything small enough for this to have a major effect he wouldn't be able to get these logs through in the first place lol
@kerberos623
@kerberos623 2 жыл бұрын
if there is a long enough stretch of river and water, the logs will be waterlogged and sink to the bottom and decompose. so not a major problem downstream.

There is a huge one in Salt Lake. People put a board in front of it to let water build up, then they yank the board, and you go flying through on an innertube. Pretty popular in the summer. :) Many people have drowned in the rock pool at the end of tge chute during storm season though. It's in a dog park, and people will let their dogs play in it when water is running fast, then they jump in to save the dog and drown. Pretty tragic, but preventable just by using your brain...

Willow trees have an amazing life force. Just a broken branch will sprout roots and grow into a sizable bush in a few seasons if it falls on the right spot. Such as a nice moist pile of half rotten leaves in front of a clogged culvert. And here it seems to be a whole tree that washed down the stream
