I have a question Andy,, before you shot that pigeon in the barn, how did you know that it wasn't a racing pigeon just resting up ?? The answer is there was no way of knowing because you couldn't see it's legs,, I find this very bad sportsmanship on your behalf, I'll have a chat to you about this on the trails next time we meet,,,,
@andysrange87893 жыл бұрын
Feral pigeons are racing pigeons most of the time or descendants of racing pigeons. If a racing pigeon is resting up in a barn, in short it isn’t a very good one, and probably lost (as are most of the pigeons you see in our high streets) Knowing many local pigeon fanciers they would most likely neck the bird upon on its return anyway, they do not see the point in keeping a bird that is useless at the one job it is intended for (much like the old school gamekeepers would to their digs back in the day if the were useless) So, even if it was a racing pigeon (which it wasn’t) it was still defecating all over the milking equipment and I would lose no sleep in dispatching it.
@airwavepaul3 жыл бұрын
@@andysrange8789 As a pigeon fancier myself you're answer couldn't be more from the truth, pigeons rest up for all sorts of reasons and not just because (you're words no good,,) bop attacks, line strikes, being "Shot At", and so on,, my question to you was before you took that shot how did you know it wasn't somebodys prize bird ?? You didn't because you couldn't see the legs for rings,, that's irresponsible on your behalf,,. I shall be putting you're reply to the racing pigeon forum to see what they think.
@andysrange87893 жыл бұрын
@@airwavepaul maybe I just know know the wrong pigeon people. If i could see a ring on its leg I wouldn’t have shot it. But if I had to see every leg of every bird i shot would then realistically none would get shot or at least not as many that need to be shot for an infestation on this scale. I might be wrong, maybe I should see the legs of all the birds I shoot before I pull the trigger. I shall have read and get educated if needed.
@airwavepaul3 жыл бұрын
@@andysrange8789 but at least the right birds would be despatched and not somebodys property,. Pigeon owners are not all racing guys, a lot have fancy pigeons some have rollers and like myself have them as a pet,, I have a rescue one that is tame and free flys, he likes to explore and rome for hours, he stopped out one night caught out by the fading light, so he would of had to roost up somewhere, He came back next morning thankfully,, I just think it's a responsible thing to do and check to see if they have any rings on before you pull the trigger,, it's not all about how many you kill it's picking the right quarry and when to take it cleanly,, I have been shooting since the 80's too
