Calling Samus a bounty hunter for years without even knowing what a bounty hunter is must be the most Nintendo thing I've heard in a long time.
@howdoweknow_
@howdoweknow_ Жыл бұрын
To be fair, Nintendo wasn't exactly wrong. There's a lot of movies that have "loveable bounty hunter" type characters, and often they're portrayed more as adventurers with a checkered past than actual ruthless hunters. So in this case it's correct, even though Nintendo wasn't aware of the original meaning of a bounty hunter.
@JrIcify

It's kind of like samurai. A lot of english people see samurai as just wandering adventurers that defend the weak like superheroes, not members of the government enforcing contracts and stuff. Cowboys, ninjas, and knights are the same way. Their actual jobs kind of lose all association and they become adventurers of whatever place or time they come from.

@@howdoweknow_ Yeah think Nintendo was thinking something more like Din Djarin from the Mandalorian, rather than Boba Fett. Adventurer and bounty hunter tend to have a lot of overlap in fantasy anyway. I don't really see how Samus's heart of gold nature necessarily conflicts with being a bounty hunter, and it's probably more so the tone they were putting forth that probably got it rejected. Think she's suppose to come off more like a freelance space cop than a hired killer.

I can't speak for anywhere else, but it was a very common thing in my country (3rd world latin american country). Not excusing this as it's clearly animal abuse in many measures, but as a child it was hard to develop any sense of accountability if even your parents encouraged such behavior. As an adult I have noticed it has decreased in most metropolitan areas, but if you take a drive around more rural areas, it still pops up from time to time. Sad really; we have a long way to go as a species still.

i wonder if this is just somethign lost in translation? retro is a US company. If the whole bounty hunter thing is just something made up in localization when the first metroid came out that stuck around but the big wigs at nintendo japan never knew about, that would explain a lot.

@SophiaLilithUwU I heard once that the term may have a different meaning in Japan? The thing that turned my head the most was that, only 2 years after wind waker, the one Rito character from the official pitch drawings basically just looks like she'd have fit right into breath of the wild. In fact, so does the Zora character (who himself is fairly different looking than the twilight princess Zora from 2006). Makes me wonder if it's just a coincidence, or if Retro's concept art actually managed to stay in the back of Nintendo staffs' heads all those years later while they were developing breath of the wild. Probably a coincidence, but man would it be cool if it wasn't.

It's been truly refreshing. The fact that DYKG is regularly able to uncover substantial information that no one else even knew about is so exciting. Even better, someone should make a spoof game just to stick it to Nintendo. By which I mean have the main characters have really obvious names, like the heroes be Dink, Lunar the Moron, Teriph the Mito, and Zrel the Kora... the "Book of Fanon," etcetera. I'm just spitballing here, Seriph could just as easily be named "Sans" although a different company might take umbrage with that name.

@@macdee010 But making a fan-game with Nintendo IP is a bad idea in this case, as they already shot this down. There are plenty of indie developers who could make a game like this. I suppose the introduction of pre-evolved/egg Pokémon in Gen 2 did sort of contribute to thinking that the designs were starting to become "too babyish" (always thought Lugia and Scizor were pretty cool though), but their efforts to want to give Pokémon more of an edge again did indeed result in us getting some of the most awesome looking new legendaries ever with Groudon and Rayquaza, so it was all well and good in the end. Some of those new Pokémon still kept me following the franchise during Gen 3 even with the lack of older Pokémon in the games at first. Though I have to say, if you had been watching the original series of the anime back in the day when Misty's Togepi first appeared then you would remember what a big deal this baby Pokémon was at the time, since this was still before Gold & Silver came out and fans knew what a lot of the next Pokémon of Gen 2 were going to be, so there was quite a bit of intrigue as to what kind of Pokémon Togepi was that even the anime played up on. Of course that was then, and I'm sure by now nobody really cares as much about Togepi anymore aside from its significance with the anime.

@mattpace1026
@mattpace1026 Жыл бұрын
Being well-planned doesn't mean it would've been guaranteed to be good. I don't see a lot of people being interested in a game where Link is a side character and has to be rescued by random new characters. Sure, plenty of fans SAY they want something different, but every time a game connected to LoZ actually did buck the formula, other than BotW, it went really poorly.
@Kobolds_in_a_trenchcoat
@Kobolds_in_a_trenchcoat Жыл бұрын
@mattpace1026 I don't really super like the link connection in it myself but the gameplay, story, and overall concept seem great. Honestly, I think that if someone made the game but without specific Zelda references, and distributed it on steam, it would probably do well. It probably wouldn't be the best selling game ever or the highest rated indie or anything but I don't think it would do poorly or suck.

@@mattpace1026 Cadence of Hyrule was good. I mean from everything we've seen I think the general consensus is that this game does sound pretty good. obviously we'd never know, but still. Aren't there like barely and zelda games that break the formula anyway? There's only a handful I can think of and most have been received well to my knowledge. Also, you did say "every game game besides BotW", lol

The "65,536 Different Kantos" thing feels vastly overstated in terms of scope to me. To achieve this, all you need are 16 areas that could be 1 of 2 different locations, a la White Forest/Black City in BW/B2W2. There are 2^16 (65,536) possible combinations of these 32 areas. For example, if you design 16 different gyms but let each game only have 8 (with each slot on the map having 2 possibilities), and then have 8 caves or similar that follow similar rules, bam, you have 65,536 different versions of a game.

That sounds like a really neat concept! May not have fit on a GameBoy cartridge, but I believe a Switch cart should be able to fit that no problem.
@DJIVision

It'd certainly be possible to do get 65k versions with minimal differences like you described. The way Tajiri described it in his quotes (about stepping into different world and all that) makes it sound like he wanted to do more than the bare minimum though. He didn't go into a whole lotta detail though so who knows.

Okay so can we all agree that Heroes of Hyrule sounds fucking rad? I would love for that game to be real, it sounds like one of those games today that people still talk about and remember fondly, bugging Nintendo daily for a remaster or sequel and the like. I can even see it planted firmly in many "Top 20 DS Games Of All Time" lists, just solely based on the pitch shown in this video. If Retro were granted the green light and were able to fully realise the potential of this pitch, then we could have had something really special on our hands.

I was thrilled you could use the abilities but bummed at the same time :( also disappointed you couldn't use it much, or there was only specific points to use it. Amazing video. Really showcases how creativity can be stifled by narrowmindedness and/or not venturing out comfort zones. I think Heroes of Hyrule would have been something amazing in its own right; a bold new direction or simply a great spin-off for TLoZ franchise; we even have such an example in modern times with Mario + Rabbids. Sadly it wasn't meant to be, but perhaps something similar will grace us one day. Cheers!

So... am I the only one who felt rubbed the wrong way about the painted chicks thing? Like... it's already animal abuse painting these birds, with no doubt dyes that are bad for their health. And then these rotten kids throw them away? Hell, if I got one as a kid. I would have tried raising it, even after it grew up.... And I was a shit child. Also... can I just say how badly Blaziken's intention failed hard? It's a fan favorite. Not to mention that a lot of furries want to.... You know what....
