Biggest Leap Ever - Intel GPU Update
Alright so there's been a ton of rumors about Intel’s upcoming Battlemage GPUs which should be launching actually in not that long anymore, and I will discuss battlemage in more detail a bit later in the video, but I think battlemage could be a huge turning point for Intel graphics, as not only is it expected to be a massive leap in performance, but the drivers should be significantly better than what we got with Arc.
Look, I’m sure you heard about Arc drivers being bad at launch, and believe me, they were, but today is a completely different story. In fact the Arc A770 today is a completely different class of GPU than it was when it launched.
To prove it I decided to test the A770 on its latest drivers vs the launch ones, and you are not gonna believe the difference.
And in order to do so I reached out to Intel for an Arc A770, which not only did they provide, but they actually sent over a whole test system, but I don’t really need more computers, so that’s not gonna change my opinion, in fact I’ll be giving away the Arc A770 to a random commenter on this video, and I’ll be upgrading a friends computer with the rest of the desktop.
Speaking of which, let's quickly go over the specs of my test system, so we can head into the games to get an idea of how much Arc has improved, and what this means for Battlemage.

I used an A750 for most of 2023 and it was a great card, especially if you find it at $180 (unfortunately it's been mostly $210 post-Black Friday). If there was a downside, it was the moderately high power draw. I hope Battlemage cards will have a simpler design to take apart so that they'll be easier to maintain.

Really shows Intel's dedication to their Arc lineup, they may have lost some reputation with some of their customers in the past but seeing that they're showing no signs of giving up and letting the only 2 graphics giants duke it out with insanely priced cards (I'm looking at you Jensen), I'm rooting for Team Blue (I am in fact an Intel UHD user...) so they can hopefully convince AMD and Nvidia to bring down their prices too. Looking to get a PC for my birthday, and I'm getting me an Arc for sure!

@@DainHunter Man I loved playing CSGO until CS2 rolled around, Valve completely replaced the thing and overhauled the graphics and now even with FSR Ultra Perf its not even 720p 30fps (edit: and even with fsr ultra perf it looks like absolute dogshit). I'm learning Blender and Godot and while my laptop does struggle sometimes I know tech moves forward with time so the only thing I can do is stay with 2D games and GTA 4 or get a proper PC build, which I'm absolutely stoked to getting.

@@vargulfen I live in Canada, specifically Alberta so yes in US and more towards Ontario and Quebec prices would probably be more stable but here, the local used market is completely dry, even in Calgary where I live 20 minutes from there are no good PC part deals, and I hate seeing amazing eBay deals realising the shipping from the US costs as much as the part itself. The whole reason I couldn't get a PC this Christmas is because of the prices and stores just not stocking enough PC parts. It's a shame.

It's not even in just games. Intel Arc has gotten so much better in creative workloads such as After Effects, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve. They are better than 4060 and 4060 Ti in those applications. They just need to work on 3D rendering workloads now, and they will overthrow Nvidia as the de-facto mainstream creator GPUs.

Because AMD gave up on ‘competing’. AMD is solely focused on price to performance at the moment. They make a flagship that is just better than Nvidias mid tier for within $100 but $300 cheaper than the next step up. Intel is allegedly gunning for that same space for 2/3 the price. 4070 ti/7900xtx/4080 for $850-$1200. Or Intels next gen which would roughly match that performance for less than $600. Only time will tell.

Because AMD does not exist to people who use their computer for more than gaming or surfing the web, bud. Nvidia/Intel builds are for serious PC users. I recommend any person who wants to game & to surf the web to use AMD parts, there is nothing wrong with AMD for gamers & end user/web surfers. It is like how people who ONLY want to play games can do just fine with a console & use their phone or tablet for the web. Anyone who does more than gaming/web browser on their PC should always build with intel CPU & nvidia GPU. Maybe all intel will be a thing soon, I would still suggest nvidia cards for pro users until I see the same level of [productivity/creative] software support for ARC, though.

Nvidia is the current market leader, that's why. If Intel can release a card within the year that competes with the 4070-4070 Super, which it appears on track to do, and at the pricing they're currently at for the A770...it would disrupt Nvidia entirely. While I don't think the pricing would last forever, for a couple generations we as gamers and creators could reap the benefits of powerful cards at affordable prices

Yes, I'm stoked for this. I've been looking at the 7800 cards from AMD, as an alternative upgrade path to Nvidias cards. However my main gripe with these cards, is that they seem more like a "rehash" of older cards, with no significant jump in performance at the same price point. Hopefully Intel can stir things up with their 2nd gen Battlemage and if they prove they can keep the drivers updated, I might just give Intels cards a shot for the first time in my life.

That being said, I know they have struggled with compatibility, which had me tentative about swapping over just yet. I also am a bit handcuffed in that I need Nvidia capabilities for a 3D scanner I just got, so not really sure what that is going to mean down the road. I’ve read a lot of how the a750 is pretty good for its value, but the performance between the a770 and the a750 seems negligible except in cases where the added vram is used to a decent extent. Still excited for how these cards seem to be shaping up and might have to get my hands on one

Woot! Great video! Very excited to see Intel take some of these Arc chipsets and integrate them instead of the iris etc... Beautiful card!

Great to have the luxury now of a 3 way choice of cards. Lets hope they can bring the power draw down too

my cousin bought an a770 and had issues in the beginning. he even had to send it back for issues and now last i heard, with driver updates and all, it is running great

It's really astonishing how much Intel gpu drivers have improved - especially considering their notoriously bad igpu drivers.

Good to see the price to performance challenge of intel. Now days as the current gens are getting out of reach for many in the mid grade card category. I'll be very interested in what the have to offer in the future. Thanks for your content.

I moved my ARC A770 yesterday to my back up PC, this has an intel i7-7700k CPU, and an ASUS Prime 270K mobo with no Clear/Smart Access Memory setting (aka Resizeable Bar). Running around in Hell Let Loose like a dream. Will try Cyberpunk today…

Honestly pretty stoked for the upcoming series of intel gpus. I used the a370m when it first came out to laptops and oh boy it was rough. the drivers were absolutely terrible. A whole year later, it runs buttery smooth and I barely have any issues with it. Hopefully, the drivers on the upcoming intel gpus don't disappoint.

These intel driver updates reminds me of the early days of ATI & nvidia with frequent driver updates with major improvements and features. I had a Diamond Riva 128 (I'm old) it was exciting every time a new driver released.

7:50 - Actually Intel do get a second chance to make a first impression with Battlemage, since intel properly communicated that there may be teething problems with ARC thereby managing people's expectations of the GPU.

Used to be a huge Intel fan(CPUs), been loving AMD the last few years though. Attempted to love AMD GPUs but the 7900XTX was a mess at launch. Now I'm hoping Intel comes in swinging with this new series of GPUs! Competition is good, it's needed. I'm really glad Intel didn't throw in the towel after one lukewarm GPU release and stuck with it. I think Intel is learning how to perfect drivers at high pace, and I think the next couple releases will only get better and better. I'm interested to see where architecture goes after windows 11/next gen. I think the uplift from DDR6/GDDR7 will be sufficient to upgrade from AM4
