That opening riff on CFH was mainly the MXR 126 Flanger/Doubler set with the flanger on a fairly fast sweep I think, at least that's how I get pretty close to the sound using mine anyway. Obviously there will be added tweaks they did in production to get it to sound exactly the way it did, but the rest is history as they say! /,,/

For the longest time, I thought songs were recorded with the entire band playing at once. I knew it wasn’t played the entire way through & they worked on it in segments, but I didn’t know that they did it all individually, I can’t even imagine working on just a hi hat for hours at a time.

No way, they used a SM58 for the vocals?!?! That's insane, Id never think to try and use mine to record with. Damn, now I gotta try that and start adding the compressors and EQ's lol.

I've used 58 for years... that way you can almost use the mic as an instrument itself rather than just something that picks up sound. Then it becomes a tool in creating the sound... for instance stand back and screem... or put lips to thee grill and growl... or cup the mic...ect

I'll also add I probably wouldn't use one for an exception clean singer with lots of nuances in the voice.

At least Pantera got heavier and more brutal as they went on, unlike a lot of bands (some beginning with 'M') that sold out and got more wishy washy with age...

@Toxic Potato thrash was something I got into at 13 and at 47 still enjoy! 😆.. to be fair a lot of it was shite and still is now but you cant beat classic Exodus, Slayer etc. The bands that sold out in the early/mid '90&s did it out of trend and trying to get radio play not because they got bored. Even Mustaine admitted to doing the 'risk' album because he wanted to be mainstream and had $$$ in front of his eyes. Meanwhile Pantera did 'Trendkill' and gave everyone the finger 🤟
