So far I haven’t made the first mistake; I do extensive research on any animal I think about getting before I even look up breeders or adoption/rescue pages. (Both online and by going to the library) But I AM guilty of the socialization mistake, I’ll own up to that, because while I’m a bit embarrassed about it? I’m not going to lie. Tail docking is illegal in my country and dewclaw removal isn’t illegal but not typically done unless it’s absolutely necessary; as in if it has become diseased, if there’s significant risk of damage to their health and safety. Another one is the consistency thing with the family? It took time but we pulled it off eventually! Thanks for another amazing video!

A good thing to add is a young poodle should not do long walks. It can damage the hip joints between 5 and 9 months old. It’s the repetitive movements. Free play is great.

Can you help me with an issue, my miniature poodle loki is 2 and a half months old we have had him a few weeks and since he got comfortable he is constantly biting, not aggressive biting play biting but its nonstop is there something I can do that will get him to realize people aren't chew toys? So far the internet says just put him down and stop playtime but it doesn't work. Any advice?
@poodlemom3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bryan! Thanks for your comment. Try the following. 1. When he starts biting, yelp a word of pain, like “ouch or ah! or ow” whatever you are comfortable with” then stop playing or giving attention then try pushing him away then ignore him. No eye contact, no verbal “noes” no nothing. NO ATTENTION AT ALL (Try 1-3 times see if it works. If it doesn’t proceed to 2) 2. When he persists to come back and play bites, yelp again then push him away then walk away. Do this several times. As usual, no verbal commands and no eye contact. Just action :) Hope it helps! Keep me posted! Cheers!

@@poodlemom for some reason any Yelp or high pitched words sends him in to a frenzy, he gets pretty crazy lol. But thanks for the advice I'll definitely give it a try
@poodlemom3 жыл бұрын
@@akraiders3094 He probably does that because right after yelping, he still gets the attention he wants- there is no follow thru. Puppies will really test you. Once you start giving a follow thru action- ignoring him, it will change the "routine" and it will get him to start rethinking. LOL Hope it helps. ^^

Hello, can I ask for some advice? I have a 3 yr old poodle and she doesn't know ANY tricks, even sit. We (family) weren't ready when we got her, maybe because our previous dog before her died only a few days after we got her home because of a disease and we weren't able to have any experience. Do you have any tips on how to train her on any kind of tricks? Or even how to train her with the basics? We also have a hard time on brushing her as her fur is I can say a lot different, which causes her hair to be absolutely matted. I'm thinking of sending her to a pet salon to get her shaved as I think that is the best option. However, because of the pandemic we can't send her there. Do you have any temporary recommendations on what we can do? Such as what cheap but effective brushes to use? I'm deciding to do what is best for my dog right now during the pandemic (as we got a lot of time) since I do not want to regret once again for not giving her the life she deserves.Thank you so much!
@poodlemom3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thank you for your message! It is very easy to teach poodles, since you mentioned you haven't started training your pup, it's best to start from the basics, you will be doing it from scratch. I have this video which might help, you can start with these 5 things to teach your pup: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWObg5ewrJyjjJo As for the brush, it's really up to you what brush you will buy, but the cheaper brushes are painful on them, so if your pup is already matted, it might be even harder to get him or her comfortable with it. If you can, get the Chris Christensen Mark II Small slicker brush. But otherwise, the idea of having your pup shaved would be the best start for you. With that you can most likely use a cheaper brush in the meantime. So when you have your pup shaved, you can start socializing him or her to the brush you bought so that as the coat gets longer he or she will not mind the brush over time. I'm so sorry, it's quite hard to explain these things in detail.
