"Scam" implies that some level of lying and deceit was pulled to get someone to give up something under false pretenses. Sliker lied about the circumstances to get people to give up their money out of their own free-will. 4:50 Scamming and addiction aside, to swear on your mom’s life when you know you’re lying is despicable. Maybe I’m just overly-superstitious, but to me saying “I swear on my loved one’s life” is basically like saying “if I’m lying to you, may God take my loved one’s life” as if you’re literally putting their life on the line to prove you’re not lying. Obviously I know my loved one isn’t going to die (generally) because I lied, but to swear on someone else’s life, to me, is like the ultimate-ultimate way to prove I’m telling the truth and I would never say that, especially about my mother, if I knew I was lying. Maybe my little sister or some other lower ranking loved one, but never my mother…
