Love love your videos. Did you tan the skin yourself or sent it to a tannery?

what medium do you use to tan the fur and bird skins? can you use kali alum?
@ArtofTaxidermy2 жыл бұрын
@@andife6713 These days there are so many different products out there that you can use for tanning fur... and pretty much they all work good,, we just have to find which one we like the most. Aluminum Sulfate has been used in tanning ndustry for ever and there is nothing wrong with it.. I mean there are better combinations out there that helps your skin have better properties but still Alum works just fine. I personally dont tan anything anymore, I send them to the tanneries since I have no time for it.. but I still use Alum for bird preservation too I have a video in that regard under my tips and tricks playlist... the video is called" How to deal with bugs... you can see my combination there.

Love love your videos. Did you tan the skin yourself or sent it to a tannery? I know on the previous video you said you did the fleshing. I guess you use a fleshing machine.

Thank you for your comments... I always send my skins out for commercial tanneries since I got no time to do them myself, but since this specific animal was on expedited service and everything needed to be done immediately, and also the skin wasnt in a normal condition so I couldnt wait on it for too long so I had to tan it myself.

When I started the business I did everything myself, fleshing, tanning, shaving etc.. so I have all the chemicals and equipment.. and from time to time I end up using them in specific cases like this, but generally I send everything out. since I have no time for it anymore.

How do you get the horn caps off the skull? Also, did the parks people get a cause of death?
@ArtofTaxidermy2 жыл бұрын
I rot the horns off on sheep. And after a few days they pop out. A bit stinky but the best way. And the park’s vet is as supposed to work on the carcass. Haven’t heard anything after.

What are the chances of you doing a Turkey with detail explanation before turkey season starts?
@ArtofTaxidermy2 жыл бұрын
I see I have a couple of Turkeys in my up coming work list, but I doubt if they will be done before turkey season. Im just finishing a group of 28 birds,, and then I will start another group.. so each group take a few months to finish and the videos will follow.

Will you do any fish mounting videos in the near future.thanks
@ArtofTaxidermy2 жыл бұрын
Fish mounting here is down to painting replicas only and even that is very limited due to the higher demand on my time in other areas.
