Very similar to Icelandic eruptions in the past. Maybe on a smaller scale but still releasing a lot of SO2. Curious to know what the soldier picked up in terms of temperature and gasses being released. One report said the last eruption like this lasted 88 days.

Gumardee, Money rules everything in Hawaii, The state of Hawaii gets $1 million a year for the new telescope on the other volcano on the big Island. This is a liberal state that treats the native Hawaiians as if they are a sore on the land just like they have done to the Native Americans on the main land. The rich people from main land and Japan trying to push the native born Hawaiians out of their own state and use the police to do it. One of the most corrupt police dept in the world. This is where the meaning of Aloha means absolutely nothing, just leave your money and go back. Maui has so many tourist that the sewage and waste can no longer be treated. Money corrupts and more money makes the government more corrupt. This not just Hawaii, but everywhere. But, I would rather live in the rain forest under a tree than in any mansion anywhere else. No matter how hard those people try, the spirit of Hawaii will some day be restored to the people of the Islands, the sooner the better.

Wowza! All 14 fissures almost make it look like the eastern portion will fall into the sea! Lets hope this all stops now! Much prayers. God bless
@ladykiri426 жыл бұрын
It is normal for fissures to push toward the ocean. When they reach it, the lava just begins making new land in the form of dumping lava into the ocean making a 'bench', until such time that piece breaks off into the water, and new drops on top of it until it is again at the top of the ocean at that new point. You can see where this was and (I think) still is happening on the part of the island at earlier points, coming off from where Volcano Park is.
@brandywilliams40116 жыл бұрын
Maybe Pele brings bigger island & bigger possibilities with it. It is sad to see the people suffering & losing their homes, but from what I've seen the culture there is so beautiful, giving, and comes together to help each other. So though she is destructive, I think she brings the people back to aloha who got lost from it & reminds then to love one another, she creates anew for the people, and because of the volcano being in the news, people watching all sorts of videos, maybe stumble onto Hawaiian Kingdom issue like I did, which I as a mainlander never new these things. Maybe can bring more awareness and more people to fight for what is right & acknowledge war crimes & try to move forward in a positive way that all Hawaiians can agree on & benefit from & still live symbiotically with foreigners as well. Maybe Pele has bigger plan than anyone realizes.

These erupt every year like this why is it such huge news?
@dermotmacflann6 жыл бұрын
Because this is the first time in half a century that an eruption has come from directly *underneath* the communities it is threatening. Most other Hawaiian lava flows that threatened communities over the decades have erupted from vents further upslope and traveled downslope, often for miles. When lava is coming from so far away, it's easier to evacuate. The residents of Leilani much shorter warning (the cracks, the land subsidence and the fumes coming out of the ground) and had to leave everything behind within just minutes or hours.

Radionut - The logic is flawed. Facts are incorrect. The Big Island is not a "volcano". There is an active volcano on the island, but that's like saying you shouldn't live on the N. American continent because of the San Andreas fault. The art of sarcasm employs the element of truth. No truth, statement then becomes idiotic, not sarcastic.

Interesting how those ohia trees are so resistant to catching fire. Having personally stood close to one of these eruptions on the BigIsland, I can tell you they radiate 'intense' heat, making it very hard to come within 50ft. So hot that I think most other types of trees would easily burst into flames and set the whole forest on fire....which is not the case with these ohia's.
