My sister just told me about this grill. I live in lower Michigan about 45 minutes northeast of Detroit and she moved south to Texas decades ago to the Houston area. She is a great cook and baker who’s my go to person whenever I’m making something new. She has an Old Smokey grill and told me she’s going to send me one. I had no idea what it was so I did some searching and found your video. It’s very informative and entertaining! I’m excited to use it when it warms up and I don’t even have it yet! Your video has given me everything I need to know to use it and use it properly. You did a great job. Keep it up and I’m going to check out any other videos you did. Thanks!

I can't even attempt to mentally calculate how Many Ole Smokies I've seen on porches at apartments etc( by the way, you're not "supposed" to have bbq grills on 2nd floor and above) these pits have been around since the 80's. If you want to spend $1000 on a Big Green Egg go for it. I love the simplicity of these pits Oh if you have $1000 for a pit , check out the custom pits from Gator Pits in Houston.

I purchased the 22" model. Did two racks of ribs and was I impressed. About 50 minutes and they were done. Great purchase. I have alot of Weber grills and a PK. I love them all for what they are. Glad I added this one to the family. I'll see how well it cooks in -0 degree weather.

22 inch Weber jumbo joe from Walmart, or 22 inch old Smokey?
@BigLewBBQ4 жыл бұрын
If you are referring to the Jumbo Joe Premium sold exclusively at Walmart. Then based on this review www.thespruceeats.com/weber-jumbo-joe-premium-22-334072 I would prefer the Old Smokey 22” in does a very good job with low & slow barbecue/ indirect cooking. So Ribs, pulled pork, even brisket be done on the OS 22”. It does a fantastic job with beer can chicken and turkey too. However if all you want to do is direct grill; steaks, burgers, chops and dogs. Then the the Weber Jumbo Joe Premium May be adequate for you. I prefer my Old Smokey 22” to most of my other grills for chicken. Walmarts in my area sell the Old Smokey 22” for about $63.

Big Lew BBQ thanks for the advice! You earned a new follower!
@BigLewBBQ4 жыл бұрын
Joseph Bekin Thank you. If you travel with your old Smokey 22 a lot you may want to keep it with the stock issued short legs. That way it is great for taking camping, tailgating, picnicking etc. The short legs are also fine for back yard barbecue if you set it up on a table or bench or something. However, if you not plan to use it at home you may want to consider getting the long legs.

Got a 22" at the house, which I love - and the 14" new still in the box. Is the 18" almost as portable for tailgating, etc. or am I better off with the 14"? I wanna do small-scale smokin' too and still have the portability, and the 22" is a little much to lug around.

Chad Little the 18” is more portable than the 22” and less than the 14”. I can’t really say “almost”.

If you're ever in the Bellville / Brenham area make a side trip to Bleiblerville and Hebert's Meat Market. Get their sausage. I gotta pay for them to ship it in dry ice to Georgia but Texans have no excuse. It's the best sausage I've ever had. Get some of their dried sausage too, trust me, that alone will be worth any drive. Ask for the head Bohunk in charge, he's an Aggie. Tell them a Huebner ("HEEB ner") sent you, they probably knew some. I got blood kin all over that area, some even still above ground. www.herbertscatering.com/aboutus.htm
