If I understand correctly, Darkwing Duck on NES was actually built with Mega Man 5's Engine, which would explain why that particular title feels like Mega Man. Nice list of clones here!

Definitely a good list. As a hardcore Mega Man fan(Mega Man 2 was the first video game I ever saw and immediately loved it), there's so many games like it that I've found. But one of my favorites has to be Mitsume Ga Tooru for the Famicom. Shooting the giant coins into smaller coins is so addictive, the gameplay is just fun and satisfying overall. You play as a chibi monk looking guy, shooting lasers out of his 3rd eye. He even has a charge shot that's a harpoon which allows you to use as a weapon and a platform. With the coins, you can visit a shop and buy upgrades. You should check out the Japanese version of Power Blade, Power Blazer. The graphics are different and cutesy, the game is insanely difficult, and I'm glad they changed it when they brought it over to the U.S.

Really enjoyed this video, thanks for putting it together! Krion Conquest is a game I really want to check out now, but those cart prices on it are looking pretty brutal these days. It's also worth noting that Mega Man creator/director Akira Kitamura had actually left Capcom at this point and was working at Takeru/Sur de Wave, the developer who created Little Samson. I don't believe he's credited as working on the game, but I think it's safe to assume that there's a good chance he probably at the very least consulted on it, especially since the studio was pretty small.

I have to admit, I am a little disappointed with this one. Based on your criteria for what constitutes a "Mega Man Clone", nearly every side-scrolling action game could be included in this video, and with the exception of the Krion Conquest, most of these titles I feel don't fit into the "Mega Man Clone" title. In my opinion, what constitutes a "Mega Man Clone" is simple. Getting special weapons from boss battles, and using those weapons against the bosses that are weak to that weapon. Its a tried and true mechanic that worked for the basically Mega Man's entire career, or at least the Mega Man and Mega Man X games. One game, that I feel matches this criteria perfectly, that wasn't on this list, was 8-Eyes. The level design was closer to Castlevania, in appearance and traversal, but the bosses each dropped their weapon, and these weapons were super effective against other stage bosses. Oh, and there was a stage select.
