... uh... have you never heard of Final Fantasy on NES? EVERY single problem you listed, Final Fantasy did it first.

Dizzy games are really good. Codemasters had a fine reputation for Microcomputers/PC in the UK. Bear in mind, the original versions for C64, ZX Spectrum were £2.99 or less, (a solid pocket money amount in the '80s). Their NES stuff looks similar to their Amiga/ST games. MiG 29 deserves better than that trashed cartridge, it's like NES Top Gun, but better.

You mentioned acquiring 'Zombies Ate My Neighbors' and now you HAVE to stream it. If you can get someone to do 2-player with all the better.

This is the only game I ever completed on every difficulty setting. I thought I was done with the hardest setting but that then unlocked the ultimate difficulty, and I was obsessed - I had to complete it, and I did. Brutal hard but I did it. Strangely addictive game.

I also think this one is an improvement in comparison to the first game in terms of gameplay. Music is still very good but not great as the first. One thing though I didn't see anyone (I think) mention was the fact that the character text is not in accordance to the first game. For example Launchpad calls Scrooge "Mr. Mc D." on the first game as he did in the show and in the second game calls him "Uncle Scrooge" so total miss from Capcom on this part.

Ah yes! I played the hell out of this one! It has a particular look because it was the small brother, with the SNES version being paraded on magazine previews while this one was out. I didn't have a SNES so I played this one in the meantime. Not many beat-em ups in the NES either, for reasons that are clear every time you play one. It was good! good enemy variety and large backgrounds that made up for the tiny sprites. I never beat this one, I should give it a try now. With cheats, savestates and autofire.

To me, it sounds like they had a lot of good ideas but lacked experience and possibly had the wrong platform. If they made a few more simple games first, they might have understood what works and what doesn't better. If they tried working on PC, they would have had to compromise on the graphics and real-time parts but might have made something decent that kept the depth.

Agreed. It’s really not that far off from being a decent game, but it’s still needs A LOT to get there

As a diehard RPG fan always on the lookout for the strange, unusual, and esoteric, I wish this game hadn't been an RPG. HEAR ME OUT Exploring a fantasy world with a girl who can recruit other characters by collecting artifacts or defeating foes sounds amazing, right? It could've very easily been a Metroid-style game where various allies could use their skills to overcome obstacles or solve puzzles--and yet the RPG mechanics don't dole out any experience points, give you money you'll almost never need, have the absolute WORST battle music I've EVER heard (and I've played over 200 RPGs), nearly every enemy is a damage sponge you can't run from, and serve only to waste your time and resources. I've played worse, but that doesn't excuse this game from not being BETTER. What's worse is that Kemco developed the Macventure trilogy, so they definitely know what they're doing. Why Ghost Lion couldn't be more like Shadowgate or Uninvited is beyond me.

Yeah agreed, it has a lot of potential but not being able to grind makes the combat pretty unbearable.

I've beaten this game, and while the feeling of making it into space and coming home successfully was exhilarating, I have to admit that the micro-games could've been clarified. Still, it's a very unique NES game that deserves more attention. Also, James K. Polk is a secret boss in Gargoyle's Quest. My uncle who works for Nintendo showed it to me one time.

@@BigOleWords I just remembered: there's a spiritual successor to Earthbound called Citizens of Earth, where you play as the Vice-President and have to defend the planet from an alien invasion. It's as fun and goofy as it sounds.

I miss the days when I could go to a local retro game store and buy any NES game for $3.99. I bought Sonic Blast Man 2 (SNES) for $9.99 and was shocked last year when I realized it was selling for over $200 now loose.
