I think I am in Phase 3. I am in college right now and I keep comparing myself to others. Yeah, I went through some of those phases. My best friend always made fun of my body, I wasn't fat, just built like a baked potato. He insisted that I joined his gym until one day I said "ok, let's do it" So he starts teaching me some basic routines and I keep going to the same gym for about 7 months without giving too much thought into it, I just wanted to lose some weight and get leaner. So, one day I get out of the gym and some girls walking by, turned at me and gave me that flirty smile and I suddenly realized that not only I was leaner but much more muscular than I was only a year ago. Suddenly I was doing bench offs with my mate, arm wrestling, etc. Getting stronger became part of my life. So, I was in pretty good shape but the posters on the gym's walls always haunted me. "how did they get so big?" , "what I'm I doing wrong?" and after talking to a trainer, he told me that I just plateaued and that the bigger guys in the gym were all on gear. That really devastated me because I was pretty ignorant about how to get huge and when I realized I just reached my limit and that gear was the only way to continue progressing I actually went into a 2 month depression period. After that just said fuck it, I'm not going to get on gear and now I just aim to stay lean, keep my beach body and after a while, the depression was gone, the pressure was off and I just continued on like the idea of taking steroids never crossed my mind. But it did.

I really enjoy the quality and consistency of your content, and this video made me want to write a couple of things. Firstly, I completely agree with this video, and though I've never considered taking gear, I have seen myself go through these stages, so thank you for bringing this up; especially mentioning your audience is younger, because the kids need to hear these things (I'm 30). Secondly, at the end of this video I thought to myself there is only one person who I know who remained absolutely adonis-like till they passed; and that was Serge Nubret. Your video on Serge was exceptional, and he is literally the only specimen (besides Herschel Walker - not a bodybuilder but jacked) that I can imagine who remained shredded till the end. Anyways, thanks for all of your dedicated hard work; this channel brings the light to bodybuilding!

I went through all of these phases at almost the exact time period in my life that you did in yours. When I reached stage 5, I actually began to research which performance enhancer I was going to use. You see...I had "rejected" my limitations and wanted to take more "drastic" steps as you say. I decided to use HGH and was investigating methods to get it. One day I was laying in my bed in my college dorm and I had a long talk with myself. I asked myself, "what is the end game here"? "What are you trying to do"? "Are you willing to kill yourself for this?" After this long talk, my thinking turned toward "acceptance" and I just concentrated on filling out my body the best I could. That was over 20 years ago and I have never touched any sythetic hormone, roids, performance enhancers etc. Nice video

First of all: I am absolutely not into bodybuilding (as you might tell by me being 1.85m/66kg - 6'1"/147lbs), but I can absolutely relate to that, because I went through the same process, albeit in endurance sports/running, a sport I always liked and did in one way or the other, but some day I started running against the clock, and I got up to an average speed of 13km/h (8mph) I could keep up for at least an hour, but after a while I realized it completely took the fun out of it. Now I go running for an hour or two every couple of days just because I enjoy it and I love the positive effects it has on my health. So yeah, it takes quite some self discipline to _not_ try to go as big/fast/high/heavy as possible, but in the end, it is the way to go. Videos like this are the reason why I subscribed. Keep up the good work!
@charliekp65344 жыл бұрын
Same here, I've only been running about a year, but was enjoying it more and doing timed park runs, signed up for my first marathon (cancelled now though due to the virus) etc. Loved trying to improve. Quickly realised that that's just nowhere near as fun as taking it easy, going for long comfortable runs where I enjoy to process so much more vs. trying to improve.

I think the outcome of stage 5 also has a lot to do with the genetics of the specific person. There are people that can get huge and pretty ripped while staying natural and there are people that will look pretty shitty even at their natural limit. so If you have good genetics already i think it's way easier to stay natural.

I think the vast majority of ppl starts to work out to look better. But everyone needs to understand that eating good and healty foods and training naturaly equals to a strong natrual body. It's harder to build muscle no doubt but is it really worth sacrificing your health to just look good for a few years. I'm arguing that if you train natural you can maintain your physique much longer even all the way to old age than if you would be taking gear.

You are insecure with new gains, bloated face, acne, sweating, than 2. phase is confidence with first cutting and clean eating and winning local competition. In phase 3. you start to compere yourself with other amateur bodybuilders and want to become pro bodybuilder. In 4. phase you start abusing a lot off anabolics to become pro. In 5.phase you accept that you will not become pro and just cycle some test dbol all year and competing maybe on national level or classic physique or you just get some guru and abuse more anabolics, gh, insulin, prptides and you become pro or you die

My mentality is, I'm on my own path and my goals are different from others. Don't care about being massive, just want to lift heavy shit and make some solid gains while still being healthy.

Non competitive bodybuilding is a lot better once you realize most of the guys you used to idolize took gear and/or trained to the point they're getting surgeries for it 30 years later. I'm not 100% satisfied with my body as I know I still have a long way to go, but I'm happy with my progress all things considered.

Excellent topic Nick! Congrats for reaching the mature, realistic stage at an early point in your life. some folks never get there. I believe you've got the the stages of the affliction figured out too. Although I have never been completely content with my physique I did accept reality and limitations fairly early as well. I've gotta give both props and thanks to ya for the terrific council you've given to the younger batch of lifters (it can apply to all ages really). You did a really good job of this Nick, thanks man. .............................PEACE!!

Man I can't imagine how awful it must feel to have that post-cycle regression. For those guys to have been that huge and shredded to becoming a beer gut physique, to know you peaked that hard and have fallen so far must suck.

Just like to add I can't thank Nick's strength and power enough. Until 6 months ago I was an addicted to painkillers & hookers and meth/coke. Funnily enough painkillers are the worst as they make life just fuzzy. Now I'm addicted to the gym and so the regular cocaine and painkiller sessions have stopped It's also why I am mindful to stay clear of gear - even though I may not be genetically susceptible to heart or liver damage - just like recreational drugs they put you on the same roundabout of low self esteem, temporary boost through gear/drugs and back to the start.

Great advice Nick ! That’s why I’ve been trying to tell everyone who asks me about it. I’ve been working out for 19 years now and I’m almost 34. I am very happy with my decisions regarding working out. Taking steroids was always out of question for me 💪🏽

You should do talks in schools my guy. Im 25 right now and I know that I would have appreciated this topic when I was 15. I believe that awareness for this issue will give kids a healthier outlook about going to the gym and training in general. As always Nick, amazing video.!

Really liked the way you split this up into phases. Never really looked at it this way, but its accurate. I think bigorexia is something almost all serious lifters suffer from to some extent, but not everyone accepts it. At the end of the day, every serious lifter looks better (in terms of physique) than at least 90% of all other people. Its odd how something like working out, which is meant to be beneficial for your physical health can have such a tear on your mental health.

I appreciate the way you put yourself out there in this video. That takes guts. I went through a few of these phases before I discovered that my body is much better suited to riding bicycles up hills. I still lift in order to build as much strength as possible.

I never get off gear... So I never lose my gains. That’s what works for me. I cycled off and on for 20 years. Would get so depressed when I’d come off a cycle. Then... About 9 or 10 years ago... I just decided to stay on. I stayed on Dbol for 5 years straight. Then I switched to a bottle of test every week for the last 4 years. I have had blood work done and everything is looking pretty good. Whatever works for each individual.

Kind of amazing that even though you touch base with Bigorexia through this video, all the phases you discuss match very well with people who are dealing with the opposite insecurities or body dysmorphia. Those that deal with feeling like they aren’t ‘slim’ or ‘lean’ enough when they get into or half-way through their work out journeys. They then fall into extreme dieting choices and believing dieting fads that tend to backfire, harming the body’s natural state. I really hope when we all make the choice to start working out, it is truly for our wellbeing and health and not for our ideal physique. When it’s all about the physique, it tends to take over your life not always in the most positive way.
@BARBELLS-AND-BUDS6 жыл бұрын
I've been through all the phases and I opted not to take steroids. Now after numerous back and other injuries and being 45 years old I actually regret not taking steroids sometimes. I was happy with how big I was between 27 and 35 @230lbs. I had to workout Way heavier and harder than the guys juicing. I didn't get as big or ripped as they could. I was always afraid of the consequences and possible long-term effects. Now I'm smaller because I had to quit working out several times to heal from injuries. I have permanent back injuries, but still basically kill myself to try to get back to my old self on days that I am able to lift. It's a never ending cycle, and I don't know what the future holds for me. I really do feel like cheating with roids often. I probably won't ever take them and won't ever be happy with my muscular size again.
@Xerxez226 жыл бұрын

U can try low dose test..or pct dugs. It won't do much harm at Ur age. At Ur age naturally test starts getting low so in order to maintain Ur Natural gains it will be helpful for u . In think Nick mentioned Roids Specifically for teenagers who start jucing early on and then they get test level crash when they reach 45 or so.....
