I got off to a rocky start with my Bigscreen Beyond, but after a few teething issues that almost entirely worked themselves out; things get better from here. Highlights are the amazing colors and contrast ratio.

I think rn there is too many compromises for it to be an enjoyable experience. I’m absolutely not happy with mine. Trying to watch a movie in this is like forget it. Lens flare everywhere at all brightness levels. I just can’t ignore serious artifacts always swirling around my vision like some others apparently can.

To prevent your lenses from getting dirty against your forehead, you can wear a cloth (like a bandana) on your forehead. The cloth should be soft to avoid damaging the lenses.

Thanks for your review, looking forward to see how you go with the correct ipd. I spend a lot of time developing inside vr so pretty interested in bsb. I have an index and hp reverb g2. I find the g2 has a sweet spot and blurs out when i look out to the edges. Just wondering how the bsb fairs in respect edge to edge clarity.

this is the first review that represents my thoughts on the device, the bigscreen app IPD was +3 more than what it should have been and I'm returning mine for my actual IPD

ipd is adjusted from scanning your face, so it may have different results compared to calculate it via eye doctors. maybe thats why u got that missmatch ipd. u gotta say to beyond please use doctor prescription ipd instead of scanning manually

Since you have the Quest Pro as well, would you say that you would strongly prefer the Beyond to the QPro for seated sim experiences, or would you sill pick the QPro?

I have the same issue with the arc of blurriness. In your case, does it only happen to close objects or far objects and texts as well?

The adjustment to the strap is exactly the same as the Quest 3. One side get's you tighter and the other slacker. I actually don't mind that strap, it's the facial interface to the Q3 allied to the presure on the face which makes it uncomfortable. Arguably the Bigcreen Beyond is the most comfortable headset out there, I wouldn't say it's cut and dry though, it has it's flaws - namely getting it into a good position because of the vertical sweetspot is so tiny, any movement and it becomes blurry again, but tightening it on your face gets back to being uncomfortable!

Excellent Question; I'm still deciding on this one myself. I want to see what it looks like once I have the correct IPD version for my face. I will say two things... A) Even with the bluriness on the center edge of my vision, the 2560x2560 per eye in HL Alyx on the Bigscreen Beyond when focusing on far away objects was the most amount of visual information being fed to my retinas from a VR headset that I've ever experienced and I really liked it. The visual "oled pop" is real and gives me a "lucid" feeling of actually "being there" more so than any LCD panels. B) The Quest 3 is an incredibly compelling product and the lenses are really god tier and while the detail is less than the BSB, the edge to edge clarity and FOV are really, really good, and about 7-10 degrees more than BSB in my testing on my own face shape. My guess is simmers who need as much clarity as the can get for seeing cockpit details and distant objects will prefer the beyond; and Action gamers (beatsaber / etc) will prefer the "motion clarity" of the 120Hz on the Quest 3. Hard to say for social VR people, as the BSB is very comfortable with the soft headstrap, but the Quest 3 can be wireless. I'll have more to say once my replacement IPD BSB gets here.

Got mine a few days ago. I was ready to settle down and use it for 2-3 years. Unfortunately im sending it back. The oled panels are amazing and the image quality is almost like looking at my monitor. However i find the glare takes a huge amount (~33%) of my bottom fov which makes flight simming experience horrible, as thats exactly where all the gauges are. The FOV is really small and overall i was really uncomfortable and looking forward to finishing my flight to get my headset off. The BSB was supposed to be the epitome of comfort and to me it has been the opposite. Even my terrible VP2 is giving me a better experience.

Ive had 68 ipd for glasses and bigscreen. Got the headset. Blurry. I think a 66 would be correct for me So it sucks cuz i basically always have a blurry picture. Going to return it and hope for a better v2 in the future

Lol i feel like part of this video is skewed, the instructions clearly say that -2 from whatever ipd your scan puts out and -1mm of what an opt gives you. So the ipd issue is 100% user error.

It would be nice to buy a full set of ipd cups and like a 3 pack of generic face cushions to share with others. Not perfect but good enough etc. Getting the wrong ipd sucks and appears to be common.

Bro thanks a lot for your honesty! I'll stay away from this, it's too "prototypeish" for the fact that it's 1000$ for just the headset alone, so ye. Even just the thought of having to send it back because of wrong IPD, or just in general blurry vision, or fan noise is a nightmare for me. I like buying things and not having to think about them much anymore.. This was very insightful! Little critice: Check your audio settings in the video cutting tool you're using next time, the first few minutes are very hard to listen to on a headphone as we can hear you almost only on our left ear though.

I don't know my exact IPD value, but I know it's approximately 67mm. I've had the HTC Vive OG, Rift CV1, currently using the Valve Index and Quest Pro, and I've always set my IPD to an approximate value, sometimes even playing with a ±1mm difference, and I haven't had the same issues with blurriness on those headsets as you described.

The lenses are much smaller on this headset. So it will be more sensitive to inaccuracies.

I just get mine from myeyedoctor if you go in and tell them you are looking for glasses but don`t know your IPD they have a tool right there they can measure with. The will give you the total and per eye

what you're talking about is called "sweet spot", and the Bigscreen has a tiny ass sweetspot, which can be a problem, since you can't change the IPD except sending it in again.

I want to know more about this custom audio strap you have for your big screen? Are those index/Reverb G2 Speakers? I don't see any videos on your channel talking about that. Audio is my only real sticking point into getting a Bigscreen Beyond...

You can preorder an official audio strap with the Bigscreen Beyond. Or, you could try 3D printing a mod for another audio strap to fit it.

Excellent review. I'm getting the Meta Quest 3, have the HP Reverb G2, and am collecting information about other headsets to understand the direction of the industry better. I already know that the Big Screen Beyond has glare that I could not deal with, along with not having a sound solution; however I was surprised to learn about the IPD needing to be exact and I just never thought about pass-through since it seems to be so commonplace. Anyway, you reviewed this product very well and I wanted to express my appreciation.

I was hoping you talk about glare. I heard glare make all image washed out so oled panel is usuless on Beyond. Hopefully thats not true

The base connector has a displayport and 2 usb connectors, they all terminate into a usb-c cable leading to the headset

2 things I wasn’t expecting was exactly how bad the lens flare was. No sugar coating It’s real bad. Then the fact it killed my 4080. 120 fps is now 40ish fps on the beyond playing VRchat. It’s very resource demanding. Personally I’m going back to the Index after a week with it.
