I'm one of those people who has noticed persistence and glare, I've also bought the AMVR strap and used 3D printed clips, and I've had to get my unit swapped out for IPD reasons, my optometrist got it wrong the first time. I could wear my old Beyond for hours, but come out with my eyes being a bit sore. I couldn't resolve detail very well close to my face either, but I thought it that was normal. Lo and behold, I go back to my older headset and try my updated IPD measurement and even that was an improvement. My new Beyond arrives in a few days. I've missed having mine dearly, so the feeling of enthusiasm is mutual. I'm really glad you're enjoying your Beyond, great review!

Man the feedback you provided is saying a lot coming from you. Its a pretty awesome feeling not being able to find problems when you're goal is to find them upon the first few uses. I understand it may vary person to person. I've ordered mine about 2 weeks ago and I have my fingers crossed that I don't find any personal issue when I use it. I ordered the Aero and have been using it for a few weeks now and it is great but my priorities have changed upon receiving them. At first it was resolution first then comfort/ergonomics. Now that i've used the headset, the comfort is my first priority, the beyond offers that but I didn't expect it to bump up the experience with how you perceive the imagine aswell. I look really forward to the headset and I completely agree with it staying as a daily driver because it really spoils you to another level, and majority of companies are not focused with the beyond's priorities as of now. Props to the person or group who saw the potential of having a headset made like this because im sure it must be hard to go back. And just for a fun fact, i've been working on a product for 2 years, its a device used for diagnosing semi trailers and is about 5 times more compact then what others are sold on the market. I didn't realize how much of a difference it made until I was forced to use the bigger ones for a week, the small size really gave an ease of use and much more. So I related it to the bigscreen beyond, can't wait to receive mine and I appreciate the video and the tips you gave!

I always love your reviews, always very well put. As someone coming from an index I thought about what you were saying about tunnel vision, and the first thing I noticed was that I needed to move my head more compared to the index. But then I started moving my head and I completely forgot about it just because of the weight difference. I can just move without thinking because it feels a lot more natural, especially because I already wear glasses.

Hi, Shark here. Watched the review and found it very well done. Good explanation of the different problems which one could encounter. Very good explanation of the 3D view in comparison to the Aero. That is what I experienced with my Quest Pro as well. It is not all about resolution sometimes. It is a matter of how realistic the feel got. That depends on many different factors. For example what you mentioned. The blacks of the shadows or the dash of the Quattro. It was good to see the Beyond in relation to your head and body size. It reflects very well the dimensions of the VR headset. I really like the minimalistic form factor of that VR headset. Well done buddy and thank you for that.

I just did the facial scan for the bigscreen beyond. pretty sure it saved my eyes, been using my headset at a IPD of 63MM however because the facial scan and a few double checks we figured out that my actual IPD is 68 - 69MM, and it makes VR look so different in terms of depth.

Thanks for your review. 👍 I own a Bigscreen Beyond since september, and for me personally the head motion blur is my biggest issue on my Beyond. Maybe i notice this more, because i had the Valve Index before, which had absolutely no motion blur. I have also a Pico4, which has also no head motion blur. The Beyond is my first VR headset, which has an issue with persistence. Nevertheless .... sharpness, colors, black levels, comfort are a big plus for the Beyond.

Out of curiosity, have you dropped your brightness to help compensate for this? If so has it helped any? As I said in my video, I consider myself lucky not to notice this issue. In fact I left my headset at 100% brightness, liked it and didn't even try higher brightness levels just in case I did notice something and became sensitized to it. That was my biggest concern.

@@markkovalcson7243 I tried it once, but didn't really noticed that much of a difference besides the darker visuals. I'm still running my Beyond at 100% brightness. Maybe i'll give it another try. But i have to admit, that i get more and more used to this motion blur, and it doesn't bother me that much anymore.

Thanks for the video Mark. Ordered yesterday with audio strap. For use mainly for MSFS 2020. I have purchased on EBay two used Valve Base Stations 2.0. Do I need to also purchase a controller? What software do I need to install for the Base Stations. I assume I would be using Steam VR? Where do I download the BSB drivers, system software, etc.? Another dumb question: I assume the Beyond needs a 3.0 USB and a Display port on my 4080 GPU? Anything else need to run the Beyond on a Win 10 system?

Yes to USB 3.0 and Displayport. You don't need hand controllers unless you want to play room scale games. You won't be able to set the playspace boundary, but that can be skipped and all you need is a button to center your HMD in game.

Mark what is your IPD? I had mine check at my eye doctor and I got a 34 right 32 left got a 66 total. But my scan did a 67. My unit is a 67. Not sure if it’s worth sending it back for a 66? Also I think if you have a motion rig the beyond is the only choice. I had to modify a chin strap on my aero to settle it down a bit. Even the. It’s still nowhere near a beyond in the stability department in a motion rig.

My far IPD is 30.5 and 31.5 = 62mm. My iPhone scan was off by more than yours. What I'm reading is that it's better to be right at or 1mm below your IPD for the best results. I think the question is whether you the image looks sharp in both eyes at the same time. That is what we are after. I never thought about rigging a chin strap to my Aero. Did it work?

When I went from Westone UM2 to my RSM, detail noticeably improved and bass response was much better. The truly night and day difference though was comfort. I don't believe that is the case. The Beyond was designed around a 1" uOLED display and tiny pancake lenses that require very tight eye alignment. My guess is that future headsets even by Bigscreen will be based on larger uOLED displays and have larger optics and possibly eye tracking built in. I think the Beyond is as small and light as is possible for now and the next iterations will have to be a bit heavier and larger. However they will also have better edge to edge clarity and more FOV. That's my best guess.

Coming from a htc vive and now having an index, the specs of it were massive. But now since my index has dead pixel and the weight is finally giving me a headache to wear it for long period of time, I'm looking for that next upgrade. I'm Australian so everything is double ish so money isn't the problem but I want the best thing for right now, but so on edge about what to get, I look at quest pro or quest 3 to buying the aero, but I keep coming back to the small form factor of the BSB and just need to know is that worth over headsets that have bigger FOV, eye tracking, higher refresh rates. I mainly play beat saber, FPS and vrchat and wear the index for over 6 hours, but with chunky cord and the weight, I think I rather get the smaller factor then go for something that has eye tracking, but afraid since the BSB has less frame and less fov and less brightness and I want to daily drive it. Any suggestions?

The Beyond is very popular in the VR Chat community. Some are sleeping in it. The dark blacks and high contrast should make some of the environments pretty amazing. The brightness isn't an issue because of the complete light seal that helps with the jet blacks. Your eyes adjust. In my opinion it looks better than my Aero which has over twice the nits. I won't say it looks brighter, but that it looks bright enough that I'm happy with it. I find that I have more available FOV because of how easy it is to move your head. It was instantly natural feeling to me. The Aero does have more edge to edge clarity, but personally I think the Beyond looks a lot better and I think in many of the VR Chat environments people are talking about it would look brilliant. Good luck with your choice. And I am saying this based on feedback from a bunch of hard core VR Chat people. I can't claim any experience there.

Thx for the response, the bsb is at number 1 for the headset I should get, looking at everything else currently and not bothering with eye tracking. The bsb looks amazing, scrolling through review after review, I'm little worried about sweet spot clarity, but I guess that depend on people perspective. Has this bean a bother to you? But overall, I move my head more there I look around with the index, so I can deal with the FOV and hopefully the 90hz upscaling looks decent enough coming from the index's resolution. I think I'm going with the beyond.@@markkovalcson7243

@markkovalcson7243 for me edge to edge clarity is extremely important so I would probably pass up on it. I currently have the Quest 3 and the clarity is out of this world. I also have the Crystal and the clarity is very good. The only issue is some blooming and chromatic aberration on the Crystal but the display is insane on it.
@markkovalcson7243
@markkovalcson7243 4 ай бұрын
@@sephiroth4543 My Aero has very good edge to edge clarity as well, but I still greatly prefer the Beyond. Part of that reason is that my motion system can shake me around and the Beyond is the only headset I've ever tried that stays put on my face and doesn't bounce around. As a result I get a much clearer view than I could get with my Aero. The same goes for room scale games. My Aero and even my Index would move around on my face. The Beyond stays put, so I can whip my head around in FPS games easily and not modify how I move my head just to keep the headset in place. The overall VR experience is on another level.

Mark, how has your experience been using the Beyond in DCS in particular? That's my only VR use case at the moment, currently with a G2. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on the Beyond but haven't come across much feedback regarding DCS yet. Most people seem to be gravitating towards the Crystal. I tried it and it's just not right for me. I appreciate the thoughtfulness you put into in your videos. You help me understand things better and lead me to think about aspects that I wasn't considering.
@markkovalcson7243
@markkovalcson7243 4 ай бұрын
To be fair I haven't spent much time in DCS over the last few weeks. That will all change hopefully soon when I start to play with a FFB base that is getting close. DCS is THE title that benefits the most from DFR in terms of frame rates since the Quad view support was added about 9? months ago. I had the Beyond solid in DCS at 75Hz for single player action and I thought it looked very good. For multiplayer action the frame rates can be harder. I understand that the Beyond works with OpenXR Quad View in FFR mode and trimming the outer edge away can help with frame rates and get it to a solid 75Hz as well. The Beyond and the Crystal are polar opposites in many ways. You can't look around very far with your eyes in the Beyond. It simply doesn't have the same edge to edge clarity, but it looks very sharp in the center. So you will need to move your head around more with the Beyond, but it is also much easier to whip your head around in a dog fight if you need to. The Beyond may be a good fit for you if the Crystal felt heavy and ungainly to you, or if you had issues focusing with it. People have different sensitivities and this is completely about personal preferences. Personally I think the Beyond looks great in DCS. How you handle persistence and the Beyond's glare will impact how you feel about it. The Beyond has a restocking fee, but can be returned, if you are concerned it won't work.
@luisgruneiro7789
@luisgruneiro7789 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the detailed response and for highlighting more points to consider! Even though the Crystal I received was not working properly, the IPD adjustment gear was defective and wouldn't go below 71, I could see the terrific clarity it has to offer. But, man, that thing is huge and was uncomfortable for me with the stock facemask and headstrap. I don't hate my G2, and its been a nice headset to start dabbling in VR, but I'm ready to up my game so to speak and comfort and increased clarity are at the top of my list. If that means moving my head around a little more with a Beyond, that's fine. The community eyetracking mod for the Beyond looks promising and it will be interesting to see if the company ends up developing it as an add-on. Thanks again! @@markkovalcson7243

@markkovalcson7243
@markkovalcson7243 4 ай бұрын
I wouldn't recommend it. As an experiment, I'm pretty sure it would be a failure. I've worked from home for 15 years and put a lot of effort into creating as perfect an ergonomic environment as I could for myself. As a bit of background, I run a motorized Geek Desk, Herman Miller chair, Kinesis Advantage Keyboard, Evoluent Vertical Mouse, and have 3 x 24" monitors on Ergotron supports. My monitors are staggered and angled so my eyes focus at different distances and I work by a window so I can focus out into the distance. ( Notice the emphasis of not focusing on at a single distance ) Spatial computing is coming, but we are still in the early stages of development. Apple is figuring out how to make spatial computing workable in terms of control using eye controls and gestures with their Apple Vision Pro, but it is more of a development platform to create the killer apps and virtual tools people could use to work in. However the hardware form factor is not workable. It will be a great R&D platform, but not the final usable product people will adopt. Magic Leap got the form factor and optical ergonomics right years back with a very lightweight headset ( more like glasses) that lets you see the real world and draws your work environment on top of that in a way that allows your eyes to naturally focus. This is critical to minimizing fatigue. I would guess that we are still at least 3-5 years away from anything that I would consider using for work.

Had mine about 3 weeks, for me the fitment is horrible, the straps don't stay put and wind up digging into my ears. Constantly readjusting it. Have a new face interface coming that I ordered like 2 weeks ago. It gets HOT even with the fan cranked. It seems to be lower in vertical FOV than my Index, not terrible but in DCS with the Apache, the IHADS heading tape is hard to see. The less horizontal FOV isn't really noticeable from the Index. Base stations may have to be moved because its such a small form factor that where they worked with the Index may not with BB. Visuals are amazing as you said.

I may have tried OpenXR if I was able to get the OXR MotionCompensation working, but my D-Box haptics and tactile system are just not compatible. The software combined with My Vive Tracker 2.0 gets scrambled. A rumble strip for example completely messes it up. Do you have any plugins for OpenXR that you need? Coming from someone who I can see clearly used the Index before, I'm happy. Can't wait for mine. We all know the draw backs of the headset which are things like no eye tracking and no face tracking or now wireless stuff. But wireless is still not that great, we need our beast machines still... especially for jam packed VRC instances. The biggest issue people mention with this headset are glare and fan noise. And as for face tracking, I just watched a video of a guy modifying his to support that like... with the form factor and weight of this headset the company can at ANYTIME add on accessories! Can't wait for future updates and accessories for this headset.

The state of eye tracking and DFR is probably worthy of it's own video. Currently no headset with eye tracking comes with general DFR support. There is one person who is responsible for a lot of the existing DFR support and he mostly adds OpenXR plugins for DFR support for each headset and title combination. Sometimes the title gets a software update and the DFR breaks and he has to update the plugin. This means that each user has to visit GitHub and download a plugin for each title that is supported and then keep those plugin's updated as the software changes. Personally I think the VR headset manufacturers need to take more responsibility for this. You can look here to see all that Matthieu Bacchianeri has been up to in terms of DFR plugins and OpenXR tools. github.com/mbucchia I've used his tools with my Aero for iRacing, DCS and MSFS, and I greatly appreciate his efforts. Sims are some of the most demanding titles in VR, so this was a good place to focus. It is just important to know that having eye tracking doesn't mean you will have DFR support for every title that you use.

I love bigScreen app so I was excited about their headset but there are several issues which I am worried about. - Small FOV - Small sweet spot compared to my Quest 3 and Crystal - Heat build up during long VR sessions - Glare - extremely important and negates the oled effect - Compression - Barebones so you need controllers and base stations - Low brightness although I can ignore this if needed - Wired only - Optical clarity as they don't use th greatest optocal stack What do you think about this?
@markkovalcson7243
@markkovalcson7243 4 ай бұрын
As I mentioned in an earlier video, they are dealing with the limitations of the very small uOLED display size and pancake optics. It is impossible to get the same edge to edge clarity the Q3 has. The Q3 is using a much larger display and much larger lenses to make that possible. I obviously love my Beyond, so it works well for me. The brightness is not an issue because the cushion blacks out any room light. I've even dropped my brightness to 80% and after my eyes adjusted, I couldn't tell the difference between that and 100% even in dark hell pits. The Q3 is a great value in VR headsets and if you are happy with it, then it sounds like you are good to go :) As far as everything else goes, you've already made up your mind. I went from a Rift CV1 -> Valve Index -> Varjo Aero -> Bigscreen Beyond and I can only say the VR experience in the Beyond is the best I've ever had by a margin. YMMV.

Mine should be here any day - can't wait! I've literally had nearly every headset since the Oculus DK1 in 2013 (surprising that my KZbin channel doesn't cover VR, actually) and really OLED is the way to go. I liked my Pimax XR but the panels looked like little diamonds and had some screen door, I really liked the Samsung Odyssey + and it even replaced my Index for Sims at the time...The 8k X was pretty cool actually but it never satisfied my need for the true blacks and colors of OLED. The Varjo is pretty great, and the Pimax Crystal has the best picture clarity of any headset I've ever tried - but it's a heavy medieval torture device! and takes a lot of modding to make it wearable in my case. I'm hoping the Bigscreen Beyond fixes everything on the contrast/color front and hits that sweet spot of comfort vs. clarity vs. performance.

@@worms141414 I've had my Beyond for a few weeks now and got the prescription lens inserts with it, and here is what I can say: It's incredibly light and if you have a cable management system of some kind you can forget you're even wearing it...the colors are fantastic, and the blacks are not only what you would expect but are truly stunning. I was flying the Hind Mi-24 helicopter free flight mission in DCS at night, and it took my breath away! All is not great though, there's this weird spotlight effect when you have bright lights against a dark background that looks like a scuba mask fogging up and the top and lower thirds of the screen turn brownish and get blurry if you lokk with your eyes at them. The FOV is pretty good though, as is the sweet spot, so what happens is you just move your head around more and since the headset is so light it feels completely natural. Is it worth the price? yes it is - and really it's the ability to move your head around as fast as you want to and not feel it that makes all the difference...ther's nothing else like it.

Man, I feel like I got really unlucky with my beyond. First, my ipd is to large, making everything upclose blurry. Then the fan vibrates every time I turn my head, even at 40% I can hear it with my earbuds in, while playing. And I found the motion blur very significant at 100% brightness, I basically cant track something with my eyes while turning my head without it becoming a blurry mess. It even digs into my nose, making it painful to play more than 3 or so hours. I'm really hoping that the next unit can resolve this.

Coming from only using gear vr from 2017, I have a 4090 gaming PC and am interested in getting into PCVR/SteamVR. Plan is to get a Samsung odyssey headset used for under $100 just to dip my toes. If I find that I still like VR, don’t get motion sickness and like the experiences on offer specifically with pcvr enough to want to spend some serious time in, then the only real money I’m willing to spend will be on a bigscreen beyond headset and setup. Like you said, I don’t see anything that can compare, or that is set to release anytime soon that would compare. And it all comes down to taking micro oled technology and exploiting its strengths to build a headset unlike anything we’ve ever seen: a low profile, custom fitting small form factor VR headset. It just makes so much sense in so many ways (most all of which you identify). When I had my gear vr it came with my Galaxy s8 phone. It was great for a bundled, pack-in accessory at the time. I enjoyed the vr experiences I had, however primitive even for then. But I fell off of it not long after due to the bulkiness of the device. I did enjoy the oled blacks and am surprised with how rare they are on headsets even today (although I do understand older generation oled tech isn’t properly suited for VR use). Oled is still a must, even if a tad dated. That’s why I’ve chosen to dip my toes back into VR with the Samsung Odyssey headset. That and its price lets me view it as a somewhat temporary solution. Hoping I like pcvr enough to invest in what looks like an awesome product, the bigscreen beyond. If I do, it just means I get to enjoy my gaming PC in a whole new way getting more use out of it than ever before. The odyssey headset can then become my headset for visitors I guess.

Thanks for your review it got me over the line. Just got the BSB a week ago and love it. I prefer it to the Crystal and Aero both of which I have sold. In short I am a DCS only PC VR palyer and found the clarity compelling, Much better in the middle than either of the others. Yes lost field of view and smaller sweet spot, reminds me of the G2 from the Index where you give up FOV and clarity for absolute resolution in the centre. I did like the G2 :) Looking at targets on the ground or other aircraft this is much clearer in this headset. It has a much better sense of 3D so leading a target is much easier. Brightness? 80% fine just up the 'Gamma' and select a filter 'Teal and Orange' and it is pleanty bright. I prefer earbuds as don't want to be out of conversations when I take the headset off and I love the light weight only 10g so 137 grams all up, I can dogfight for hours with that on my head. I do have a Quest 3 for all my other VR gaming needs, it is an amazing headset in its own way. If you could get the Q3 optics into a BSB it would be amazing. There are always wish list items because there is no perfect VR headset. Some capabilities sound good as an idea, but are harder to actually use. It will be a couple years before a video card would be capable of running the Beyond at 120fps without very good DFR. So for now you would also need eye tracking to make 120Hz a reality. But then you would have only have good performance in DCS since there are no other titles supporting quad view rendering. DFR still has very poor support, and while a future 5090 could push 120Hz for $2,000 when it arrives, This all assumes that there is even a uOLED display currently available for mass production that could run 120Hz uncompressed. Then the question would be how much more expensive the Beyond would have to be to use this vs. what it is using now. So let's assume the tech exists now and the Beyond could have both eye tracking and displays capable of 120Hz. Would you pay $2,000 for that?

@@markkovalcson7243 Today I need 120+ only for table tennis, because 90 is not that enjoyable compared to Index, so GPU is not really a limiting factor in that case. Another question is how many people would be willing to pay that to make it financially viable, assuming it doesnэt have Apple logo.

The best way I can explain this is that some people put the Beyond on and naturally adapt to it. The sweet spot isn't huge, but there is enough FOV to see things happening in your periphery and some of us just naturally move our heads to see what we want to see clearly. The headset is so light and stays perfectly in sync with your head movements that it just works. When I put it on I had no adjustment period, it just felt right. The ability to whip my head around without having the headset moving around on my face was a MASSIVE improvement for me. Glare depends a lot on the title you are in. I can see massive glare in cut screens and some setup screens, but very rarely in game. 99% of the time it's just great and I don't notice it at all. I would say that glare is far worse if you have any light leakage around your cushion, or if your IPD is wrong. Both of those things impact image quality quite a bit. Otherwise, I never noticed any glare in game with the Valve Index either and some people complained about glare with that.

Everyone has different sensitivities. I tried to point that out in my video. I think as many thousands of these headsets get out into the hands of users that there will be people who fall into many different parts of the spectrum. It also doesn't surprise me that some percentage of people just will not get on with the Beyond. People who are very sensitive to persistence don't understand how other people are not. I saw the same thing with the Aero. I know a small number of people who absolutely hated it. I very rarely notice glare in game in the titles I play. There are places where I can see it quite clearly, but it is not a factor for me in game for the titles I play. I don't have any issue with comfort, period. It feels more comfortable to me than any other headset that I've ever owned and my Aero was very comfortable and even had a fan that I could feel on my face. Yet I still prefer the Beyond because it fits my face perfectly and my headset stays perfectly in sync with my head movements. What I am saying is that I have seen many different people feel differently about different headsets over the years. What you need to realize is that not everyone will experience the exact same headset the same way you do. It's entirely possible that I could try the Quest 3 and find it horribly uncomfortable to me. Or the facial interface may be loose on my face and cause it to move around. It may have a deal breaker for an issue that matters to me that you don't notice. That is just the way the human body is.
