HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

I don’t think that was aluminum wire, I think it was tinned copper wire. The tinning helps prevent corrosion. It is better to check the ends of the wire, not the sides. Almost all the aluminum wire I have ever scrapped has a copper coating with the core being aluminum. That power supply would deal with high enough current loads that I doubt there would be aluminum wires inside.

Love seeing the breakdown and melt. I love copper bars. I’ve been so bummed lately when scrapping transformers. It seems like half or more are copper coated aluminum. I don’t bother dissecting them, just toss them in my steel/shred bucket for the scrap yard. But on the bright side, I’ve been finding a boatload of copper wire from local dumpsters at commercial construction renovation sites around here.

I haven't forgotten about you, still living in hospital with our youngest (my great nephew who we have custody of) who is fighting the biggest battle of all as you know, been there since August now and we won't know if he has beaten it until July, I know you know how it feels. Started my own workshop w/ a smelter and there is just something natural about tearing things apart and sorting them out down to their base components. I don't know if the satisfaction comes from man's need and desire to create or if it's about going dragon-mode and just having a bunch of shiny metal, or both, but there's something visceral about it. Those two blue tubular parts on the circuit board are aluminum capacitors. Basically two strips of aluminum rolled into a flat coil with paper separating them. The liquid that's saturating the paper is harmless if not ingested. The can they're made of is also aluminum. Same for the smaller tube things.

Have looked forward to your vids every Friday morning since I discovered your channel. I am retired, and like to watch them as my pibble Maddie snores curled up next to me (is 2F/-16C with a -16F/-26C windchill). We will need to kit up so we can take more water out to the critters in the back yard.
