That was pretty neat! I had a question if it hasn't already been asked. I've seen other people use WD-40 as the release agent instead of graphite powder since it creates a more even carbon layer for release (and fewer holes). Is that something you've tried, or would look into trying?

Been watching these videos for quite some time now, and I have to say: I never realised just how much I love copper until I found these melts. The colour of the metal, the blues and greens from its oxides, how liquid it gets when molten, and the sound of that pour. It's just such a wonderful material

You are genuinely one of my favorite KZbinrs. I follow so many creators, but have been watching you for about 2 years. You are still the only one I specifically set time aside for on Fridays. Being on the US East Coast, your videos go live ~3am, so I can't always watch the moment a video is posted...but I always watch in the first 24 hours or so. You truly are one of the underappreciated greats, and I am SO glad I found your channel! ❤️ Technical question out of curiosity though...I've noticed that sometimes skimming the slag from a melt, you use the metal stick thing you use in today's video, but other times, you use the slotted spoon. Is there a reason for that choice, or is it just whatever you feel like using on a particular day/melt? I've always been intrigued by fire and molten metal, but I'm clumsy as hell and quite injury-prone, so it's just safer to live vicariously through you! Lol. Thank you for all your hard work bringing us all amazing content, congratulations on the new place, and please give Ingot and Bullion lots of hugs, kisses and pets from me and my husky Forest! ❤️🐾😊
@dracothewarrior43162 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the amount of slag. You may notice that when he's melting aluminum, there's a ton of slag, and he always uses the spoon, but with other metals, like copper, there isn't nearly as much slag and he uses the stick
@bigstackD2 жыл бұрын
Yeah mate just like Draco said it really depends on the metal .With copper there is such a minimal slag that sometimes I don’t even skim it I just leave the bits of ash and stuff in the Crucible and just pour carefully but with aluminium and brass it’s normally got quite a few scoops so I used to big spoon. The slotted spoon is really no different than a normal spoon which is what I had on hand at the time. You just need to make sure to heat them up nice and hot so it will stop the metal sticking to them👍🏻😁

Hey BSD, love your videos! I have a tool suggestion. Try investing in a pair of straight angled sheet metal snips.
