Something a touch different today as my friend had a copper crab cooker pot that was very old and had a leak in it. What better way to let it live on than to add it to the stack. It poured so well that I showed it twice on 2 different angles , Now sit back relax and enjoy todays video and see you all next Friday😁👍

HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

That was pretty neat! I had a question if it hasn't already been asked. I've seen other people use WD-40 as the release agent instead of graphite powder since it creates a more even carbon layer for release (and fewer holes). Is that something you've tried, or would look into trying?

Been watching these videos for quite some time now, and I have to say: I never realised just how much I love copper until I found these melts. The colour of the metal, the blues and greens from its oxides, how liquid it gets when molten, and the sound of that pour. It's just such a wonderful material

You are genuinely one of my favorite KZbinrs. I follow so many creators, but have been watching you for about 2 years. You are still the only one I specifically set time aside for on Fridays. Being on the US East Coast, your videos go live ~3am, so I can't always watch the moment a video is posted...but I always watch in the first 24 hours or so. You truly are one of the underappreciated greats, and I am SO glad I found your channel! ❤️ Technical question out of curiosity though...I've noticed that sometimes skimming the slag from a melt, you use the metal stick thing you use in today's video, but other times, you use the slotted spoon. Is there a reason for that choice, or is it just whatever you feel like using on a particular day/melt? I've always been intrigued by fire and molten metal, but I'm clumsy as hell and quite injury-prone, so it's just safer to live vicariously through you! Lol. Thank you for all your hard work bringing us all amazing content, congratulations on the new place, and please give Ingot and Bullion lots of hugs, kisses and pets from me and my husky Forest! ❤️🐾😊
@dracothewarrior4316
@dracothewarrior4316 Жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the amount of slag. You may notice that when he's melting aluminum, there's a ton of slag, and he always uses the spoon, but with other metals, like copper, there isn't nearly as much slag and he uses the stick
@bigstackD
@bigstackD Жыл бұрын
Yeah mate just like Draco said it really depends on the metal .With copper there is such a minimal slag that sometimes I don’t even skim it I just leave the bits of ash and stuff in the Crucible and just pour carefully but with aluminium and brass it’s normally got quite a few scoops so I used to big spoon. The slotted spoon is really no different than a normal spoon which is what I had on hand at the time. You just need to make sure to heat them up nice and hot so it will stop the metal sticking to them👍🏻😁

Thank you for teaching me how to get the blade of my hand-forged letter opener shiny, BigStackD. You showed that particular activity in detail and I went, “whoa, wait! It’s THAT EASY?!” Turned out amazing! THANK YOU!!!

I'm really diggin' the new shop. And I agree with you "friggin holes". But the bar turned out fantastic. 👍

I'm sitting here at my desk while I'm curing my corona disease. Everything is boring, even playing the 1000x SuperMarioWorld to the end. 🍄🐢🏰 Thank God it's Friday and I was able to while away 20 minutes with your video. At the latest at the end with the homage to Superman I almost fell off my chair laughing. Thank you for your humor and your great way of depicting the melting down of copper in such a funny way.😉 Greetings from Germany ✌

Copper looks so gorgeous in liquid form. Looks like that hanging hot dog kit was incomplete... no mustard! OMG, I love the Superman theme at the end. Dog zoomies are the best.

Always nice to look at and constantly funny. - When I was 14 years old (1984), I was very busy with it. I also still have a small treasure trove in the basement. For many years no longer looked at. I have looked now actually and found there: Approx. 70 kg tin, 165 kg copper, brass & bronze in ingots, as well as a few small bars of silver, zinc, bismuth and indium. - Nice - Thank you
