All this "behind the scenes" detailed info is far more valuable than the network's flashier format. Not dissing in any way. The network's audience is looking to be entertained, so they film & edit to do that. By contrast, we're HERE to learn, so Ian films and edits with that in mind. I am grateful for Ian's background as a teacher!

Props and acknowledgment for Ian's skills of TIGging that un-braced pipe 🤯 It's hard enough to TIG around a pipe, let alone hold and rotate it as you weld. Crazy thing is he dipped while it was stationary, NOT while it was moving. Not sure if everyone realizes the difficulty of that particular weld operation, but that is a VERY advanced maneuver to pull off successfully!

I really appreciate the up-close look at your winch plate fab. I'll be building one sooner or later. Yours is a lot lighter and tighter than what's available on the market, which is what I'm going for. Great video all around. Sucks that the trans is what gave you problems on UA when that's the piece of the build you seemed most unsure about.

Question. How do YOU decide when to just do stitch welds vs a full weld? For example, the added gussets for the winch mount.
@branchandfoundry5602 жыл бұрын
I'm curious about this too. Often we think we need to fully weld things. But watching Andrew Camarata lift up his dump truck with only 1" of weld on 1/4" plate to prove the point made me realize we're over-doing it most of the time.

On my XJ build I'm debating on either converting to a 4 link rear or keeping the leaf springs and maybe adding an anti wrap bar. The plan is 5.5" lift on 37s. What would be the pros and cons of both and what would you recommend?
@DirtySideGetsDown2 жыл бұрын
Makes me happy to see someone that welds as often as you stick the tungsten and just keep going. Lol. I will do that on something not really visible, but if I am really trying for perfection(not that my tig welds are worth looking at) I will stop and regrind the tungsten right away.
