You should do a funny video where you take it to Toyota for maintenance and get their reaction😂

Ha Ha....I took it to them when the frame was rotten...and they said "no thanks"

Man that’s so cool. My 05 Tundra was recently written off late this year. So replaced it with a 2011 Tacoma 4.0L. But man do I ever miss that 2UZ. Maybe in the future I should V8 swap it 😂🤘🏻

I used to own an '09 4.0 Taco with a manual and I was really disappointed with it. It seemed very underpowered and as is common with Toyota trucks, got horrible fuel mileage. I sold it right after Toyota replaced the frame and now own a 4nd gen 4-runner with the V8. What a difference! This is the engine that belonged in the Tacoma! It has so much more power, and the real shock- even though it weighs more, it gets a little better fuel mileage (16mpg instead of 14mpg of the Tacoma). I'm now shopping for a frame for the 4-runner because Toyota never covered those.

"It won't work" "Just buy a truck with the engine you want." This seems to be the defeatist attitude with a lot of brand owners. Some of us want a challenge, we don't do it because it is easy but because we can.

Does the truck have some form of a front axle disconnect? Curious how that fj t case works since my fj has a disconnect
@BigTireGarageАй бұрын
Yes...front axle has disconnect, that I hotwired with a switch
@Bolie420Ай бұрын
Now that I think about it it’s kind of similar to the ford ranger and explorer as far as the v8. Ranger never came with one but they had a v8 explorer. In fact the only small truck with a v8 that I can think of was the dodge dakota
@BigTireGarageАй бұрын
Good point...and I think the Dakota of that era was considered a "midsize" truck
@Bolie420Ай бұрын
@ yeah I would consider it mid size.

How about fuel capacity cant remember if you did anything with that. That is one of my biggest issues with my tacoma is that it doesn't hold enough. And how about the mpg now with the v8
@BigTireGarageАй бұрын
I kept the stock tank...I am getting about 19-20 MPG on daily driving I took it on a trip recently with group of JL's and we spent 3 days wheeling and driving and I hot the same "trail" mileage as the JL .maybe just a little better

Yota guys are a strange breed. I say this as someone with 2 tacos parked in my driveway right now.. A lot of them are very skeptical of any custom mod that isn't from a big name with a hefty price tag. The number of times I've heard "can't be done" or "going against factory will only yield negative results" is quite frankly amusing.
@BigTireGarageАй бұрын
That's exactly why I built this!

@BigTireGarage Your next project by which you get donations to build and then prize off in some fantastic way but let me drive first: 3rd Gen, LBDC Tacoma, on portals w/37's, but fire breathing, under a custom hood, a 2nd Gen Super Charged Tundra motor. You know you want to....

Why do you say that? From my understanding a "stealth camper" is a truck bed style camper that looks like a regular pickup...but in reality is a full camper inside...which this truck is...What is your version of a stealth camper?

Advanced Fiberglass Concepts sold me the lowest quality fiberglass I have ever seen.
@BigTireGarage14 күн бұрын
Man that's a bummer...my Taco bedsides were great..I prefer Fiberwerx, but they didn't have a flat top bed side
@sam_s_11 күн бұрын
@BigTireGarage I built a Ram 1500 with a Dirt King long travel kit. The guys at Dirt King said they could no longer recommend Advanced Fiberglass Concepts products, but I ignored them because all of the Ram fiberglass looks goofy. It was a huge mistake. I spent $3,500 for a fiberglass kit that fell apart before I even installed it. Every component has areas that we all resin with no glass, glass without enough resin, and hollow voids that collapsed under even the slightest pressure from my finger. I have over 100 hours into fixing all of these problems. The 20 year old fiberglass on my Tacoma is in better shape than the new fiberglass from AFC. They also had no interest in replacing the bad parts. They said it was normal and I could drive 3 hours to their shop for them to fix things with bondo.
