This is the tractor I really wanted to buy in Australia but at the time I was looking, they all seemed to have single 23 by 30 tyres and I needed dual's. I ended up buying an Inter 4586 which was way more powerful than I needed because they were all equipped with 24 by 32 dual tyres. Actually the first big articulated tractor I ever drove was a brand new Inter 4386 in 1980. As a 16 year old kid, I was very impressed by the size and power of that machine. It even had a cassette player in it, radical for that time.

@timothyebertebertfarms63569 күн бұрын
In the spring we use it in our second pass on a 30' Case IH 4800 feild cultivator with a Case IH 31' 110 crumbler behind the cultivator. In the fall it's primarily on our Case IH ecolo-tiger 530B for main fall tillage. We have three point on the back of our 4386 and ccasionally in heavy compacted soil we have a International Harvestor model 11 three point 5 shank auto reset v-ripper. The ecolo-tiger really makes her bark. Our soil is pretty heavy and we like to get under the compaction layer.

The next two larger IH articulated 4WD's were both powered by 800 cid IH V-8 diesels just like they said in the narration. I ran a Deere 8480 or something similar, Deere's 466 in line 6 diesel, turbo-charged, intercooler, boosted then turned WAY up to pull the "two shank too big" Glenco Soil-Saver. He had blown the Deere engine up twice before I ran it that one fall. I thought it was really gutless, but He Fixed that, last time I was passed his farm there was a big green Stieger hooked to that soil-saver.

Did the IH V8's in the larger ones have a good reputation. Great details on paint combos. Kinda funny how they're idea of "updating" the striping by making it look more like previous year's black stripe 66 series.

Very sharp looking machine, particularly for its age. Sounding real good too. In addition to IH utilising their own engines and drive axles on the Steiger badge engineered tractors, I wondered if they also used IH sourced gearboxes, or was that element of the machines kept as per Steiger's own spec ?

@@jamesbarbour8400quite a few of the early-middle era (think mid 80s for middle era) 4WDs used some version of a Fuller Roadranger or Spicer 1010. He’s not kidding. A lot of Big Buds had the Fuller, Steiger used Spicer after 76, but a mix of Fuller and Spicer before that.
