Great video Jason. I saw a couple things I haven't seen too often--front fenders on a 2WD and Mud flaps on a tractor. That isn't to say they aren't necessary. Liked the narrow front big tractors.

How about a JD 4020 WF, M&W Turbo, PowerShift, diff lock, JD F145 semi plow, and a nice day for a then 15-year-old in 1965, and the smell of diesel fumes in the air. Maybe turn up the diesel Rosa Master on the M&W Dyno with a new spring to say 125 HP and drive away

Our farm had a D14, D17, D19, and a 190 XT. One of our neighbors had a D21. The XT was boosted by turbo to 140 hp. It was bought with a 6-bottom plow, and then another bottom was added, which was now a 7-bottom plow. When you lifted the plow out of the ground, the beam swayed. The Ford 8600 also had a 7-bottom plow. The XT tended to run hot, a mechanic from Rockport looked at it and called a blockman from Franklin IN. The upper trim pieces on each side of the hood were taken off which fixed the problem. The later XT's were designed without the trim pieces. The same mechanic was on a D19 with narrow front end. He was driving in Rockport full throttle and started hitting rough places in the road, which started the tractor bouncing, the bouncing worsen and flipped the tractor backwards killing him instantly. We always had wide front ends for this reason. Thank you for the trip down memory lane with the video.

Thank you for sharing some AC history. Sorry to hear of the D19 accident. The One Ninety XT is a solid plowing tractor. I have watched them plowing and they will out do any brand in the field. They just get up and go. I hope to film a D21 some time.

My Dad was a mechanic for John Deere in the 1950's before he went to farming in Eastern Washington State in 1959. I remember as a kid when he brought home a brand new 830D and plowed our pasture up with it. Over the years he owned an "A" a 40, a 60 a 620 a 730 a 4020 and a 4520. @@bradhaenitsch1145 We had a D19 gas with a 4 bottom mounted plow. It followed the furrow very easily, but it did like to drink the fuel. We also had 2 190xt's with 5 bottom semi-mounted plows. They were hard to get to pull straight. We were an AC farm since the dealer was in our town. Dad started with a 1942 WC then a WD. His last tractor was a 1967 190XT. My brothers and I bought a D17, D19, another 190XT, a 7045, 7060, 7580, 6080, 8050, and 8070.

Kind of hard to say (without the paperwork) that the 4230 was the 'last' tricycle front end produced, as it was not that much work to change out the front ends (4 bolts, IIRC), between a single front wheel, WFE, or the NF. Also, the JD Model "A" shown as being 27 HP, was, as the shifting box (square) as a 1950-1952 year, which had 38 HP on the belt, and 35 HP on the drawbar.

people love to dog the 404 for not having the most snort, but it's a great sounding engine. Sounds bigger than it is with a straight pipe.

Love them all. They are awesome to watch and operate. I've worked with you 4020 4320 and 5020 growing up on a tobacco farm. The 4020 was the best one to cut hay with. It was the best size to pull the hay binder. I also drove out 7,000 model Allis Chalmers cutting hay. That was a nice tractor too. And I wish I just had one I could take to one of them plow days. Anyway awesome video loved everyone of those tractors. 😀👍

That 4230 was a good looking Deere, but I’d pull that flap off behind the front tires. Just like those wide front ends with fenders over the front tires. Never liked that look… wishing to have seen an IH 806 or 1206 out in this field.

The flaps and guards keep stones on the gravel roads of this area of Iowa from chipping the tractors paint and breaking windows on the cab. They really pop up. Every time I film in this area my truck gets a few paint chips. They don’t have that factory look but they keep the tractors looking good. Plus on the open station it keeps the farmer from getting pelted.
@DeBa1226
@DeBa1226 2 жыл бұрын
@@bigtractorpower LOL! That seems a stretch. Running 25mph down a country road to change fields, pulling a disk, cultivator, or a grain wagon…. Your pick up is getting a few chips when another pick up goes by you in the gravel, the opposite direction. Oh my goodness…. Breaking windows? You could lay a baseball between the tread on those front tires… and farmers getting pelted… cmon! Iowa has gravel roads everywhere, we farmed 3,100 acres for years across two counties, there. Let’s just say they come from the factory that way and this guy leaves them on. Not chipping paint off. Gravel isn’t breaking cab windows or pelting farmers…. LOL!

I am originally from Sumner, IA, and my dad had a '59 Case 800 diesel, case-o- matic and a 4-16 trail type plow and it was one nice setup to plow with! I lost track of the tractor, it was sold at auction and my brother said somebody north of West Union bought it!

We had three JD830 ies growing up. In the late 60ies dad bought a hitch to attach two of the tractors together, and dueled up the tires. It grabbed a lot of attention from the neighbors. Some still talk about it 50+ years later.

Excellent video! and I loved that AC one ninety with the cab. That was sweet! What's the story on the front axle on that 4520 with the plow dual and canopy? It looks like a MFWD box in the center section, but the rest of the axle looks like a normal 2WD axle. Was that std on the 4520 and larger? I don't recall ever seeing that on one, but maybe I just haven't paid enough attention to the front axles on them.

4520’s have a massive front end. That one appears to have a 30 series engine, based on the oil cooler. Missed the inj. pump, 30 series would be inline.
